Matt, Logan, and Bill get together to check the pulse of boys hockey in the Twin Cities at roughly the mid-point of the season! Starting at (4:53), they discuss the Northwest Suburban Conference with an interesting race between Rogers, Maple Grove, Andover, and Centennial at the top, along with improving squads in the middle of the pack that have made it arguably the State's deepest league. At (17:18), they discuss Shakopee asserting themselves as favorites atop the South Suburban Conference after a gritty road win in Rosemount, and look back on Lakeville South's recent dominance of the league in years past. They also discuss the talent on display at Gentry Academy, who are making a strong case as a No. 1 seed in Section 4AA despite being iced out by the competition (22:09) and discuss heavyweights Wayzata, Edina, and Benilde all blocking each other for one State Tourney berth in 6AA. It's a girls high school hoops frenzy for the first time this season on the pod as the crew welcome in Grant McGinnis, a prep basketball scout and writer for PrepGirlsHoops.com in Minnesota! Giuseppe Palermo was elevated from assistant coach to head coach at Benidle St. Margaret's this past summer. With every sport there is a risk for injury. With contact sports the risk increases dramatically. It is every parents greatest fear that when their child gets hit they don't get up. Jack Jablonski’s life changed forever after he was hit during a high school hockey game. The resulting injury left him quadriplegic. In a flash, Jack rose to local and national recognition. The ensuing outpouring of support not only helped Jack begin the journey toward his personal goal to someday skate again, it also provided the inspiration for his family and friends to do more. Jack continues down his road to recovery, believing that every day holds the potential for something amazing to happen. PBA Rush game analyst & basketball coach Charles Tiu joins Staying MAJOR's 7th episode. Despite being so young, Charles has vast experience in both coaching the game of basketball and analyzing the game on television. Charles began his coaching career assisting Rajko Toroman on the Philippine national team's, Gilas program from 2009-2011. From there, Charles assisted PBA professional teams Powerade and Barako Bull. Most recently, Charles was the head coach for the Mighty Sports team who represented the Philippines, winning the 2016 Jones Cup and finished 2nd in the 2016 Merlion Cup. Charles is currently an assistant coach at St. Benilde who competes in the NCAA. In this episode, Charles discusses his basketball background while also giving his expert analysis on the current PBA. Through his busy coaching schedule, Charles still finds time to serve as a PBA game analyst on PBA Rush. This week: Amanda and Richard talk to outgoing apexart resident Reymar Gacutan as a part of our ongoing partnership. Reymar Gacutan (b. 1972) is an artist and educator based in Quezon City, The Philippines, and currently teaches at the School for Design and Arts, De La Salle – College of St. Benilde. Gacutan started his path as an artist in 1985 after winning a painting contest, and was then invited by the Department of Education to take the entrance exam for a scholarship at the Philippines High School for the Arts. In 1997 he graduated from the University of the Philippines, College of Fine Arts, with a degree in painting. In addition to his studies, Gacutan served as an apprentice to Mariano Madarang, an artist and ex-dean of PWU, and Zotter da Lavant, an Austrian artist, and through this learned art restoration and conservation. After graduating from the College of Fine Arts, Gacutan worked as a CGI/3D animation artist at Imagineers, Toonworks, and Tooncity, but found little fulfillment and decided to focus on his art. Since then he has exhibited in both solo and group shows and has taught at several schools in The Philippines.
