Blue Eye Samurai is an adult animated action television series created and written for Netflix by wife-and-husband team Amber Noizumi[1][2] and Michael Green, with supervising director and series producer Jane Wu. It was co-produced and animated by French studio Blue Spirit [fr]. The first season premiered on November 3, 2023. In December 2023, the series was renewed for a second season which will be released in 2026.[3][4] During Japan's Edo period (17th century), half-white half-Japanese onna-musha (female warrior) Mizu (meaning water) quests for vengeance against four white men, one of whom is her father, who illegally remained in Japan during the closing of its borders by the Tokugawa shogunate.[5] Maya Erskine as Mizu, a female mixed-race blue-eyed bushi. Her experiences of discrimination as a mixed-race Japanese child have left her cold, bitter and vengeful. Forced by her mother to disguise herself as a boy so as not to be found, she chooses to maintain her disguise into adulthood to pursue her path of revenge more freely. George Takei as Seki, Princess Akemi's male tutor. He sympathizes with Akemi's situation and later takes steps to ensure her freedom. Masi Oka as Ringo, an optimistic, handless male cook who idolizes Mizu. Despite Mizu initially not wanting a companion, she later tolerates Ringo. He proves surprisingly helpful and loyal to Mizu. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Master Eiji, a blind swordsmith who raised Mizu. He was the first person to show Mizu kindness, partially because he cannot see her; as a result, Mizu holds deep respect for him, referring to him as "Swordfather". Brenda Song as Princess Akemi, the pampered but strong-willed daughter of a nouveau riche lord. She is in love with Taigen and resents her father's control over her and seeks a life of independence. Darren Barnet as Taigen, a promising but arrogant male swordsman of humble origins. He is in love with Princess Akemi and harbors a strong resentment towards Mizu, which has lasted since their childhoods, and later seeks revenge after being humiliated in a duel which cuts off his engagement with Akemi. Randall Park as Heiji Shindo, Fowler's nominal jailor and accomplice. Kenneth Branagh as Abijah Fowler, an Irish smuggler who is allied with the Shogun, in secret defiance of Japan's Sakoku closed-door policies. He plans to overthrow the current Shogun and replace him with a leader who will open Japan to outside influence. Stephanie Hsu as Ise, a prostitute. Ming-Na Wen as Madame Kaji, a cunning and savvy madam. Harry Shum Jr. as Takayoshi, the Shogun's second son. Mark Dacascos as Bloodsoaked Chiaki, an assassin and the leader of the Four Fangs gang. Orli Mariko Green as Young Mizu Judah Green as Young Taigen Patrick Gallagher as Lord Daichi, Akemi's father. Ann Harada as Mama, Mizu's unnamed adoptive mother. Although Mizu initially believed she was her biological mother, it's later revealed she was merely her maid who was paid to care for her. Byron Mann as Mikio, a disgraced samurai who was married to Mizu. Dacascos, Gallagher, and series co-creator Amber Noizumi also voice additional minor characters. Other supporting voices are provided by Gedde Watanabe, Eric Bauza, Clyde Kusatsu, Keone Young, Brittany Ishibashi, Holly Chou, Marcus Choi, Matthew Yang King, Jane Wu, West Liang, Alain Uy, Takaaki Hirakawa, Sherry Cola, and Christine Ko.

Everything is dark. I'm walking around on stage, selling the idea that I can't see anything. And it's giving me a golden opportunity to find the truth of the story. You see, I'm playing Carol, the lead in a play called Black Comedy by Peter Shaffer. In it, a sculptor and his fiancée (me) borrow expensive antique furniture from our out-of-town neighbors to try and impress an art collector. But then the power goes out (hence the black), and everything goes wrong (hence the comedy). What's really cool about the experience, though, is that the lighting is transposed. When the stage is lit, the cast is seemingly in darkness, and the characters can't see anything. But only when the stage goes dark can the characters finally be able to see themselves and their surroundings. This ended up being my favorite play to perform because I got to embody a character so far removed from what I'm used to. My special guest Brittany Ishibashi is no stranger to this experience. She lives her life immersed in story and has been a working actress since high school! In this episode, she and I talk about playing characters, effective elements to enhance storytelling, and discuss questions like: What's the inside-out vs. outside-in approach to playing a character, and why is it crucial to gaining audience empathy? Why is an audience of just one person all you really need? And how can you easily and effectively open a story? What you will learn in this episode: How characters and story (in all its forms) can truly change or save lives How to encourage the spirit of play in your life and business Why music is such a universal part of the human experience in storytelling Who is Brittany? Born in Orange County, California, Brittany Ishibashi was raised by musical parents. Seeing her love for the arts, they encouraged her to try out the different facets of the entertainment world. Her passion for musical theater emerged at a young age, and she became a triple threat in dance, music, and acting. Brittany got her first big break right after graduating from high school when she was cast on J.J. Abrams' Felicity. She continued her education in Theatre, Film, and Television at UCLA while establishing her career and has gone on to work consistently over the years on numerous TV series. She's been on shows such as This Is Us, Political Animals, Grey's Anatomy, Grace and Frankie, The Office, Supernatural, and more. Most recently, you can watch Brittany play the villainous Tina Minoru on Marvel's Runaways, Claire Cormier on the CW's Tom Swift, and Tamiko Masuda on CBS' Hawaii Five-0. She also played the villain Karai in Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Jeff, and their three children. Tune in as Matt Cole (Debate This!, Avenge This!) takes a seat at the table to chat about Marvel's Runaways, the MCU-adjacent three-season TV show that follows a group of six high schoolers as they learn about a murderous scheme that their seemingly upstanding parents have been committing together for years and proceed to do all they can to thwart it. Having premiered in 2017 on Hulu before ending in 2019, it was promoted as a Marvel Studios property despite never giving nods to Iron Man, Hulk, Infinity Stones, or anything of the sort once (though the Darkhold, which you may recall from WandaVision, does pop up). On top of breaking down this under-the-radar series, the hosts arch their eyebrows at the questionable category of comedy that punches down on activism, comment on the upcoming animated series Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, and repeatedly lament how much the show should have lasted one or more seasons. Created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl), Runaways stars Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer, Gregg Sulkin, Allegra Acosta, Annie Wersching, Ryan Sands, Angel Parker, Ever Carradine, James Marsters, Kevin Weisman, Brigid Brannagh, James Yaegashi, Brittany Ishibashi, Elizabeth Hurley, Clarissa Thibeaux, Kip Pardue, and Julian McMahon. Newest podcast is out reviewing the newest Hallmark Movies and Mysteries releases titled Our Christmas Journey starring Holly Robinson Peete, Lyriq Bent and Nik Sanchez as well as Every Time the Bell Rings starring Erin Cahill, Brittany Ishibashi, Ali Liebert and Wes Brown. We both liked the movies. Both movies made history. Our Christmas Journey stars Nik Sanchez, the first autistic actor to play an autistic character. We just wish that we saw more of Marcus' POV throughout the movie, like a look inside of the program. Even though he is non-verbal, it doesn't mean communication is impossible. For a movie that totes about representation for the disabled community, the disabled character was silenced (I don't just mean by making Marcus non-verbal) and not really seen through his eyes. Every Time a Bell Rings was a great movie about three sisters. It made Hallmark Christmas movie featuring the first interracial lesbian kiss with Nora and Maizy. We enjoyed each sisters' storylines, also them looking for the bell, but the storyline with Charlotte and Liam was a weak point. It was definitely not needed. oin our newly minted Facebook group whose purpose is to highlight diversity and inclusion Hallmark Channel has taken. https://www.facebook.com/groups/421837762791433 Support the podcast and buy me a coffee. On this episode of ActorSpeak, Austin Basis speaks with actor Brittany Ishibashi (Runaways, Supernatural, The Office, This Is Us, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows). In Part 1, we talk about seeing RENT, her life-changing car accident, Richard Green, Joan Scheckel, GHOSTFACERS, and how she uses music to inform her work. The amazingly talented Brittany Ishibashi most recently starred as the villainous Tina Minoru in Marvel's hit show Runaways on Hulu, and as Tamiko Masuda on CBS' Hawaii Five-0. She also played another iconic villain, Karai, in Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Born in Orange County, CA, Brittany was raised in a home filled with the arts. Brittany discovered her passion for musical theater at a young age, and went on to be a triple threat- excelling in dance, music & acting. She continued her formal education at UCLA's prestigious School of Theatre, Film & Television, while building her acting resume outside of class. Her first big break came right after she graduated from high school & was cast by J.J. Abrams on the hit show Felicity. Brittany has gone on to work consistently over the years on numerous television series, including: This Is Us, The Unicorn, Political Animals, The Office, Grey's Anatomy, Grace and Frankie, Young and Hungry, and Supernatural. After an exciting debut at Comic-Con, she reprised her role as Maggie Zeddmore in the Supernatural spinoff series GHOSTFACERS- which has developed a worldwide fan base. Brittany's energy, spirit & talent comes through in everything she does. This was especially true when she brought her dramatic chops to my short film The Fear We Share & blew everyone away with her stirring performance. She is a talented friend who provides a solid laugh track whenever we get together! Tom and Bill talk Runaways Tribute to Stan Lee 4:30-10:00 Runaways Season 1 review (Spoilers) 10:00-39:53 Preview Runaways Season 2 Notes: Main Rhenzy Feliz as Alex Wilder: A nerd who longs to reunite with his childhood friends. He has a high intellect and is the leader of the Runaways.[4] Lyrica Okano as Nico Minoru: A Wiccan who isolates herself with her gothic appearance and is a member of the Runaways.[4] Unlike the comics, Nico does not summon the Staff of One through self-harm. The Source Material gang gather round for a discussion of the Marvel/Hulu series, Runaways! Marvel's Runaways, or simply Runaways, is an American web television series created for Hulu by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films and other television series of the franchise. The series is produced by ABC Signature Studios, Marvel Television and Fake Empire Productions, with Schwartz and Savage serving as showrunners. Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer, Gregg Sulkin, and Allegra Acosta star as the Runaways, six teenagers from different backgrounds who unite against their parents, the Pride, portrayed by Angel Parker, Ryan Sands, Annie Wersching, Kip Pardue, Ever Carradine, James Marsters, Brigid Brannagh, Kevin Weisman, Brittany Ishibashi, and James Yaegashi. A film from Marvel Studios based on the Runaways began development in May 2008, before being shelved in 2013 due to the success of The Avengers. In August 2016, Marvel Television announced that Runaways had received a pilot order from Hulu, after being developed and written by Schwartz and Savage.
Brittany Ishibashi is an actress, writer, producer and mom. In 2016 Brittany Ishibashi can be seen co-starring as Karai in Paramount’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” a sequel to the summer 2014 blockbuster. Aside from working in front of the camera, Brittany has a passion for producing innovative, engaging content. She launched her production company Mana Moments in 2015, which focuses on comedic, female driven content.
