Getting a diagnosis should feel like the beginning of healing—but for many living with chronic illness, it's just the start of a much longer, messier road.In this episode, Lyndsay Soprano sits down with Angel Parker from the Netflix documentary Diagnosis, for a raw, honest conversation about what it really means to live with chronic pain and illness. From the emotional exhaustion of being dismissed by doctors to the quiet heartbreak of not being believed by the people closest to you, this conversation doesn't shy away from the hard stuff. They talk about what happens when your body betrays you, when your mind starts to spiral, and when your world gets smaller because of pain. But this isn't just about struggle—it's about survival. About building your own village when the system fails you. About learning to advocate for yourself, even when your voice shakes. About navigating the anxiety, the food triggers, the family dynamics, and the invisible weight you carry every single day.Lyndsay and Angel also touch on the global gaps in healthcare, the mental toll of feeling alone in your illness, and the little things—like community, connection, and shared experience—that make all the difference. It's not tied up in a bow. It's real. And it just might make you feel a little more seen.Find Angel Parker Online Here:Instagram: @angelbangelllInstagram: @evolvetherapylvFind The Pain Game Podcast Online Here:Website: thepaingamepodcast.comInstagram: @thepaingamepodcastFacebook: The Pain Game PodcastLinkedIn: Lyndsay SopranoEpisode Highlights:(00:00) Introduction to Chronic Pain and Healing(02:35) The Journey to Diagnosis(10:18) Living with Chronic Pain: Personal Stories(16:45) Mental Health and Chronic Illness(20:32) Navigating Healthcare Systems(26:49) Understanding CPT2 and Dietary Needs(31:22) The Power of Community and Support(37:23) Final Thoughts and Encouragement

1 . THE RECRUIT (series)A fledgling CIA lawyer gets caught up in a dangerous game of international politics when a former asset threatens to expose the nature of her relationship with the agency unless they clear her name.CAST Noah Centineo as Owen Hendricks Aarti Mann as Violet Daniel Quincy Annoh as Terence Vondie Curtis-Hall as Walter Nyland Kristian Bruun as Janus Ferber Laura Haddock as Max Meladze Colton Dunn as Lester Fivel Stewart as Hannah Byron Mann as Xander Angel Parker as Dawn Linus Roache as Senator Smoot Kaylah Zander as Amelia But whatever cutting satire or righteous anger The Recruit might have to offer is badly diluted over eight bloated hours — lost amid paper-thin characters, flimsy twists and a wishy-washy tone. What it turns out instead is a piece of content so forgettable, the CIA wouldn't have to lift a finger to disappear it from public memory.Initially, The Recruit appears to be a fish-out-of-water comedy. The first time we meet Owen, he's singing Taylor Swift to himself during a pee break while on a life-or-death mission in Russia; the second time we see him, after the show rewinds two weeks, he's slapping his knees to Nelly's “Hot in Herre” while waiting to meet his big-shot boss (Vondie Curtis-Hall) during his second day on the job. In no time at all, the rookie's gotten himself tangled up in a case involving a volatile off-the-books asset, Max Meladze (Laura Haddock), who's threatened to reveal damning agency secrets — and all before he's even figured out the office policies around booking plane tickets. But The Recruit is not really a comedy at all, despite a smattering of halfhearted jokes. (“The eagle has landed,” a CIA suit says of Owen, to which his colleague scoffs: “The eagle? More like the idiot.” Zing!) Nor does it seem quite thrilling enough to qualify as a thriller, though Doug Liman, who directed the first two episodes, brings some of his Bourne shaky-cam style to its occasional fistfights and gunfights. It's sort of meant to be a character study of Owen, I guess, except that The Recruit never seems able to make up its mind about who he's supposed to be either. The dialogue would seem to point one way: To hear his law school buddies tell it, he's a thrill-seeking playboy whose savior complex covers a bruised heart and a selfish streak — sort of a younger, greener, Gen-Z Bond. (One episode makes the comparison explicit when Owen, dressed in a borrowed tuxedo, is offered a martini; he turns it down for a White Claw.) Centineo's performance, on the other hand, reads as far too puppyish to sell the arrogance needed for that archetype. The show itself seems torn between laughing at Owen and admiring him, though many of his accomplishments don't actually seem that impressive: At one point, his colleague is bowled over to see Owen, a lawyer, bring a rogue agent to heel by reminding him that he could get sued. The weakness of Owen as a character might be forgivable in an ensemble piece, where other leads could take up the slack. But he's the center of the universe in The Recruit. Owen's coworkers seem obsessed with him, whether they're flirting with him in the hallway or cooking up new ways to sabotage him in front of their boss. Likewise his non-CIA friends — in particular his ex-turned-roommate Hannah (Fivel Stewart), who announces, “I don't want to be that girl who says she's worried about you” before spending the rest of the season worrying about him so hard that her own friends and family start to worry about her.Still, the world around Owen does yield some highlights. Haddock seems to be having great fun as Meladze, donning the half-smirk of a woman who knows she's winning a game no one else is even aware they're playing — and, later, the guarded pain of someone running from a past too painful to remember. The only aspect of her character she's not able to sell is the supposedly simmering sexual tension with Owen, not least because the tough, cunning Meladze seems like she could eat this clueless 24-year-old alive. Also entertaining is Bruun's Janus. The Recruit‘s one truly funny runner involves the never-ending battle between Janus, frazzled but offering prudent legal counsel, and the special operation team, whom he describes as being like “if meth became sentient and was given weaponry.” So determined is spec ops to embark on exciting but definitely illegal missions that they'll stoop to drugging him so he can't advise them to stop — a hilarious but disturbing window into the thought process that's gone into some of American intelligence's shadiest projects. It's in Janus that the show's potential for black comedy comes through most clearly, and it's too bad he's mostly relegated to the background of Owen's storyline.2. FAR FROM HOME (series)Through a scholarship to a top school, Ishaya ends up in the luxurious world of the happy few in Nigeria, but a secret threatens not only to put an end to this.CAST Funke Akindele, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Mike Afolarin, Elma Mbadiwe, Adesua Etomi, Bolanle Ninalowo, Bimbo Akintola3. HELL DOGS (movie)Hell Dogs is a gritty Japanese film based on the novel of the same name by Akio Fukamachi. Hell Dogs, directed by Masato Harada, The movie runs for 2 hours Shogo Kanetaka (Junichi Okada) is a police officer, who suffers from trauma when his loved one was murdered. Since that horrific time, Shogo Kanetaka has only thought about revenge. He then receives an order to go undercover as a yakuza member. The police instructs Shogo Kanetaka to pick a fight with yakuza member Hideki Murooka (Kentaro Sakaguchi) as a stepping stone to gain entrance into the organization. The police have data that shows Shogo Kanetaka is matched with Hideki Murooka 98%. Meanwhile, Hideki Murooka is the son of a death-row convict. He has a physical condition, where is he always hungry and constantly eating. He also can't controls his emotions and even the yakuza is unable to control him.Cast: Junichi Okada, Kentaro Sakaguchi, Mayu Matsuoka, Miyavi, Kazuki Kitamura, Shinobu Otake, Satoshi Kanada, Mai Kiryu, Arisa Nakajima, Kyoko, Yasumasa Oba, Mitsuo Yoshihara, Ukon Onoe, Mio Tanaka, Jun Murakami, Yoshi Sako  ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Tune in as Matt Cole (Debate This!, Avenge This!) takes a seat at the table to chat about Marvel's Runaways, the MCU-adjacent three-season TV show that follows a group of six high schoolers as they learn about a murderous scheme that their seemingly upstanding parents have been committing together for years and proceed to do all they can to thwart it. Having premiered in 2017 on Hulu before ending in 2019, it was promoted as a Marvel Studios property despite never giving nods to Iron Man, Hulk, Infinity Stones, or anything of the sort once (though the Darkhold, which you may recall from WandaVision, does pop up). On top of breaking down this under-the-radar series, the hosts arch their eyebrows at the questionable category of comedy that punches down on activism, comment on the upcoming animated series Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, and repeatedly lament how much the show should have lasted one or more seasons. Created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl), Runaways stars Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer, Gregg Sulkin, Allegra Acosta, Annie Wersching, Ryan Sands, Angel Parker, Ever Carradine, James Marsters, Kevin Weisman, Brigid Brannagh, James Yaegashi, Brittany Ishibashi, Elizabeth Hurley, Clarissa Thibeaux, Kip Pardue, and Julian McMahon. The Source Material gang gather round for a discussion of the Marvel/Hulu series, Runaways! Marvel's Runaways, or simply Runaways, is an American web television series created for Hulu by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films and other television series of the franchise. The series is produced by ABC Signature Studios, Marvel Television and Fake Empire Productions, with Schwartz and Savage serving as showrunners. Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer, Gregg Sulkin, and Allegra Acosta star as the Runaways, six teenagers from different backgrounds who unite against their parents, the Pride, portrayed by Angel Parker, Ryan Sands, Annie Wersching, Kip Pardue, Ever Carradine, James Marsters, Brigid Brannagh, Kevin Weisman, Brittany Ishibashi, and James Yaegashi. A film from Marvel Studios based on the Runaways began development in May 2008, before being shelved in 2013 due to the success of The Avengers. In August 2016, Marvel Television announced that Runaways had received a pilot order from Hulu, after being developed and written by Schwartz and Savage.

New Podcast with Actor Angel Parker!           In this episode of "Kahnversations," we interview Angel Parker.   Sophisticated, hard-working, and an undeniable talent, Angel has brought to life some of the most dynamic and diverse characters on screen today.  She was most recently seen starring on FX’s critically acclaimed Emmy Award winning series THE PEOPLE V. OJ SIMPSON: AMERICAN CRIME STORY. Angel was a scene stealer as famed celebrity attorney Shawn Chapman, one of Simpson’s “Dream Team” lawyers.  Angel can be seen recurring on NBC’s highly anticipated series TRIAL & ERROR, opposite John Lithgow.  TRIAL & ERROR takes a comedic turn on a murder trial similar to the recent documentary, MAKING A MURDERER.  Angel joins the cast as Heidi Baker, a perky Carolina newscaster who is following the Larry Henderson [Lithgow] murder case and reports on the case’s many unexpected twists and turns. The series premiered on March 14, 2017.  Angel can also be seen recurring on BET’s REBEL, which follows Rebecca “Rebel” Cole (Danielle Moné Truitt), a diligent African-American police officer turned rogue private investigator after her brother is slain by the police. Angel plays Stella Parker, Rebel’s union-appointed attorney who tries to do her best “lawyering” when Internal Affairs is tasked with investigating Rebel’s shooting of a fellow officer. In addition, Angel will recur as Alex Green on the final season of FX’s horror series, THE STRAIN, airing later in 2017. Angel has already been cast as Catherine Wilder in Marvel’s RUNAWAYS, which will air on HULU in 2018.  Angel’s first acting gig was on Joss Whedon’s television show ANGEL. Since then, she has appeared on some of the most buzzed about series including: ER, CASTLE, CRIMINAL MINDS, THE CLOSER, THE SOUL MAN, and SEAN SAVES THE WORLD.  Angel is also well known for her role as the intrepid and vivacious Tasha Davenport on five seasons of Disney XD’s live-action comedy series LAB RATS.     At only 16 years old, Angel was accepted into the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. There, she immersed herself in performing, and went on to study Shakespeare at the British American Drama Academy; work with the Independent Shakespeare Company, Will & Company; and perform with The Blank Theatre’s Young Playwrights Festival for more than 10 years. She continues to hone her craft at Lesly Kahn & Co., where she is a proud member of the professional class and serves on the faculty.  Angel currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two children.     You can download or subscribe to the podcast for FREE by clicking below. If you like “Kahnversations,” please leave a rating or review on our iTunes page!         There are so many inspiring podcasts with fabulous stars out there. But their careers feel light years away from ours, don’t they? Wouldn’t it be great to hear from the guy who just booked his first pilot? Or the kid finally doing a studio pic after a bunch of low budget indies? Or the woman who’s been a series regular a few times but is only now becoming a name? What about the guy who’s been on a show for years and you know his face but what’shisnameagain? Or that actress who is now a freakin’ showrunner???? How’d THEY do it, right? How did they transition from relative obscurity, bartending and bottle service, to buying that house in Brentwood? (They also dish out some crazy stories!) Listen in and enjoy as these entertainers speak candidly about their paths, processes, and experiences.       New "Kahnversations" Podcast with Actor Angel Parker!     In this installation of "Kahnversations," we interview Angel Parker. A proud LA native, Angel is a conservatory-trained actress, mother of two beautiful children, and a tireless do-gooder who has somehow never learned to ride a bicycle. She serves on the board of The Blank Theatre Company and is an active member of The New Hollywood, a women's philanthropic goal group. Since graduating from The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and almost a decade with Lesly Kahn, she’s amassed numerous television, stage, voice, and commercial credits, with roles ranging from Coochi Snorcher in THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES to Olivia in TWELFTH NIGHT, but most younger fans will know her as Tasha Davenport from Disney XD’s LAB RATS. In her upcoming project, Ryan Murphy's AMERICAN CRIME STORY: THE PEOPLE VS. OJ SIMPSON, she plays 'Dream Team' lawyer Shawn Chapman. Angel spends as much time as possible mentoring young women and children, as well as aspiring actors, helping them to set and achieve their goals through hard work, passion, and positivity. She absolutely plans to learn to ride a bike one day, and perhaps to swim as well.  You can download or subscribe to the podcast for FREE by clicking below. But those actors are so faaaaaaar away from where so many of us are today! How did they transition from relative obscurity, bartending and bottle service, to buying that house in the hills? We’re producing “Kahnversations,” a podcast that provides access to THOSE people -- your immediate predecessors -- so that you can learn from them while their battle scars are still fresh. In “Kahnversations,” our own Ryan Bailey interviews some of Lesly Kahn & Company’s working actors, directors, and writers in order to learn how they got started in Hollywood, the challenges and hurdles they faced, and how they overcame the odds. (They also dish out some crazy stories!) Listen in and enjoy as these entertainers speak candidly about their paths, processes, and experiences. You might even hear a bit about how Lesly and the Kahnstitute have influenced and shaped their careers.
