Blue Eye Samurai is an adult animated action television series created and written for Netflix by wife-and-husband team Amber Noizumi[1][2] and Michael Green, with supervising director and series producer Jane Wu. It was co-produced and animated by French studio Blue Spirit [fr]. The first season premiered on November 3, 2023. In December 2023, the series was renewed for a second season which will be released in 2026.[3][4] During Japan's Edo period (17th century), half-white half-Japanese onna-musha (female warrior) Mizu (meaning water) quests for vengeance against four white men, one of whom is her father, who illegally remained in Japan during the closing of its borders by the Tokugawa shogunate.[5] Maya Erskine as Mizu, a female mixed-race blue-eyed bushi. Her experiences of discrimination as a mixed-race Japanese child have left her cold, bitter and vengeful. Forced by her mother to disguise herself as a boy so as not to be found, she chooses to maintain her disguise into adulthood to pursue her path of revenge more freely. George Takei as Seki, Princess Akemi's male tutor. He sympathizes with Akemi's situation and later takes steps to ensure her freedom. Masi Oka as Ringo, an optimistic, handless male cook who idolizes Mizu. Despite Mizu initially not wanting a companion, she later tolerates Ringo. He proves surprisingly helpful and loyal to Mizu. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Master Eiji, a blind swordsmith who raised Mizu. He was the first person to show Mizu kindness, partially because he cannot see her; as a result, Mizu holds deep respect for him, referring to him as "Swordfather". Brenda Song as Princess Akemi, the pampered but strong-willed daughter of a nouveau riche lord. She is in love with Taigen and resents her father's control over her and seeks a life of independence. Darren Barnet as Taigen, a promising but arrogant male swordsman of humble origins. He is in love with Princess Akemi and harbors a strong resentment towards Mizu, which has lasted since their childhoods, and later seeks revenge after being humiliated in a duel which cuts off his engagement with Akemi. Randall Park as Heiji Shindo, Fowler's nominal jailor and accomplice. Kenneth Branagh as Abijah Fowler, an Irish smuggler who is allied with the Shogun, in secret defiance of Japan's Sakoku closed-door policies. He plans to overthrow the current Shogun and replace him with a leader who will open Japan to outside influence. Stephanie Hsu as Ise, a prostitute. Ming-Na Wen as Madame Kaji, a cunning and savvy madam. Harry Shum Jr. as Takayoshi, the Shogun's second son. Mark Dacascos as Bloodsoaked Chiaki, an assassin and the leader of the Four Fangs gang. Orli Mariko Green as Young Mizu Judah Green as Young Taigen Patrick Gallagher as Lord Daichi, Akemi's father. Ann Harada as Mama, Mizu's unnamed adoptive mother. Although Mizu initially believed she was her biological mother, it's later revealed she was merely her maid who was paid to care for her. Byron Mann as Mikio, a disgraced samurai who was married to Mizu. Dacascos, Gallagher, and series co-creator Amber Noizumi also voice additional minor characters. Other supporting voices are provided by Gedde Watanabe, Eric Bauza, Clyde Kusatsu, Keone Young, Brittany Ishibashi, Holly Chou, Marcus Choi, Matthew Yang King, Jane Wu, West Liang, Alain Uy, Takaaki Hirakawa, Sherry Cola, and Christine Ko.

We conclude this year's exciting March-ial Arts Madness run with writer/director/producer Sheldon Lettich (Bloodsport, Lionheart, Double Impact, Only the Strong), who blew us away with his stories about serving our country as a US Marine in Vietnam, being "the man behind Jean-Claude Van Damme", and his new biography, Sheldon Lettich: From Vietnam to Van Damme, written by Corey Danna (click the link to purchase). Sheldon has had a hand in countless films from the 80's and 90's, including Russkies, Rambo III, The Order, Perfect Target, The Last Patrol with Dolph Lundgren, and Only the Strong with Mark Dacascos. You will also hear about how he saved the film, Cyborg. We go deep! We discuss his first short film, "Firefight" (1986), which helped launch the careers of future notables, Brian Thompson, brothers Phillip and Simon Rhee, and the real Frank Dux (who Bloodsport is based on). The film has been remastered and can be watched for free over on Viking Samurai's YouTube channel. And speaking of Frank Dux, while it is now common knowledge that he was a fraud and most of Bloodsport was a lie, you will definitely want to hear Sheldon's take on the real Frank. ARTICLE ON JOHN WICK 4 FROM THEWRAP.COM Final 'John Wick 4' Trailer Has Keanu Reeves Facing Off Against Action Movie Royalty Lionsgate has dropped its third and final trailer for "John Wick: Chapter 4." The Keanu Reeves-led action franchise is the brightest bright spot on Lionsgate's theatrical slate and their most obvious hope for a 2023 breakout. To those in the know, the likes of Chinese action-god Donnie Yen (also seen by Americans in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," "Shanghai Knights" and "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage") and direct-to-DVD and VOD action king Scott Adkins (also seen by American theatergoers in "Doctor Strange" and "Expendables 2") qualify as added value elements. The film will give these folks a higher-profile platform, at least in terms of mainstream Hollywood audiences, to show off their star power. Clancy Brown showing up and subtly riffing on his "Highlander" appearance is for fans old enough to have kids who can buy an R-rated movie ticket sans parent or guardian. Directed by Chad Stahelski, "John Wick: Chapter 4" sees the beleaguered not-so-retired hitman accepting an offer from the High Council to settle his life debt. The last three "Wick" flicks pulled near-unprecedented commercial growth, going from $88 million worldwide in 2014, to $171 million in 2017, to $322 million in 2019. In pre-COVID times, the big questions were whether a fourth chapter could continue that momentum and whether the franchise would expand its overseas muscle. "John Wick: Chapter 4" opens theatrically on March 24th Here's the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjRHZEUamCc ARTICLE FROM POLYGON.COM John Wick Chapter 4 puts one of our greatest action heroes in a giant prosthetic suit The John Wick movies are a stuntman's franchise. Directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch are legendary stunt performers and coordinators, and one of the joys of their movies getting bigger with each installment is seeing Stahelski (who now directs the films solo) fold in more and more action pros from around the world, like Mark Dacascos of Wu Assassins fame or The Raid's Yayan Ruhian. John Wick: Chapter 4 continues this tradition, notably with Hong Kong star Donnie Yen and the king of direct-to-video action himself, Scott Adkins - but like we've never seen him before. Scott Adkins is normally seen doing insanely athletic kicks. He has the sort of physique you might expect from someone who must convincingly portray action heroes who can knock someone's lights out with his shins. Here, on the other hand, is how he will appear as "Killa" in John Wick: Chapter 4:Adkins is playing against type here in a way that feels a lot like Colin Farrell's Penguin in The Batman - and previous Adkins movies like Accident Man: Hitman's Holiday show off the action star's willingness to have fun while kicking ass. Regardless of how much pain Adkins dishes out (or doesn't!) as Killa, John Wick: Chapter 4 is Adkins' highest-profile role to date. It may be a lot of people's first exposure to him. What a kick they're gonna get out of seeing what he's usually up to, once they dig into his back catalog. John Wick: Chapter 4 is in theaters March 24th. SCOTT ADKINS BIO (FROM WIKIPEDIA) Scott Adkins (born 17 June 1976) is an English actor, film producer and martial artist. He is best known for his role as the Russian prison fighter Yuri Boyka in the Undisputed franchise. He has played Yuri Boyka in the 2006 film Undisputed II: Last Man Standing and its two sequels, Undisputed III: Redemption (2010) and Boyka: Undisputed (2017); Casey Bowman in the 2009 film Ninja and its 2013 sequel Ninja: Shadow of a Tear; French in the 2018 film The Debt Collector and its 2020 sequel Debt Collectors (starring alongside Louis Mandylor). He worked in four films with his idol Jean-Claude Van Damme: The Shepherd: Border Patrol, Assassination Games, Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning and The Expendables 2. He also had starring roles in The Legend of Hercules, Wolf Warrior and Ip Man 4: The Finale playing the main antagonist in all three films, and also appeared in The Bourne Ultimatum, Zero Dark Thirty, and the Marvel projects Mutant X, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Doctor Strange. In 2022, he starred in Day Shift with Jamie Foxx and Dave Franco, and will appear in John Wick: Chapter 4 alongside Keanu Reeves in 2023.https://johnwick.movie/film/john-wick-4https://twitter.com/johnwickmovie#JohnWick4

When Asian action cinema expert, producer and casting director Mike Leeder left his job in a Croydon department store to go on holiday to Hong Kong, little did he know that - 32 years later - he would still be there. Before he fell in love with the city, he fell in love with its movies; a blossoming romance which started with a Jackie Chan double bill of Snake in the Eagle's Shadow and Drunken Master, and has led him to working on many of Hong Kong's biggest and best productions over the last three decades; from Fist of Legend to Fearless, True Legend to Once Upon a Time in China, Man of Tai Chi to the Ip Man series. On screen, he has been on the receiving end of a headlock from Jean-Claude Van Damme and refereed a kung fu battle with Jet Li, as well as working with the likes of Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Scott Adkins, Mark Dacascos, Donnie Yen, Yuen Woo-ping, and many more. Over the years, his encyclopaedic knowledge and passion for Hong Kong movies has seen him contribute many articles and interviews to leading magazines and websites, as well as providing his voice to audio commentaries for Blu-ray labels across the UK, USA and Europe. In this wide-ranging conversation, we discuss his life in the UK before his journey east; that time he went to interview Jackie Chan, and what happened next; the lack of film preservation in Hong Kong; and how not to get noticed in the martial arts movie world.LINKSMike Leeder on IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0498566/Mike Leeder on Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigmikeleederMike Leeder on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bigmikeleeder/ Hosted on Acast. If you enjoy the show we have a Patreon, become a supporter. www.patreon.com/thevhsstrikesback Plot Summary: In 1764 something was stalking the mountains of central France. A 'beast' that pounced on humans and animals with terrible ferocity. Indeed they beast became so notorious that the King of France dispatched envoys to find out what was happening and to kill the creature. By the end, the Beast of Gevaudan had killed over 100 people. To this day, no one is entirely sure what it was, a wolf? a hyena? or something supernatural? The Beast is a popular myth in France, albeit one rooted firmly in reality; somewhat surprisingly it is little known to the outside world, and perhaps incredibly it has never been made into a movie. Until now. Based on the true story of the Beast of the Gevaudan that terrorized France in the eighteenth century, the movie aims to tell first and explain afterwards. In the first part, a special envoy of the King of France, altogether biologist, explorer and philosopher, arrives in the Gevaudan region, in the mountainous central part of France. The Beast has been attacking women and children for months and nobody has been able to harm it or even take a good look at it. In the second part, our hero Chevalier de Fronsac will not only have to fight the Beast, but also ignorance, bigotry and conspiracy and will rely on two women, one an aristocrat, the other a prostitute, as well as the enigmatic Mani, an Iroquois he met in New-France (Canada). thevhsstrikesback@gmail.com https://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thevhsstrikesback/support

Stories from our youth, including some unusual choices for games that scared him, for a number of somewhat irrational reasons. We also try our best to come up with a top five of our favorite horror video games. But this is us, so if you're expecting your favorite title to make the top five, you're probably out of luck. This is a movie podcast, though! So I couldn't let Brother Brian get away without making him suffer through a really odd video game movie adaptation for the second time in his life. The Mushroom Kingdom from the games already seems like it emerged from a drug-fueled haze. But what the hell were the writers on when they came up with this script? The main characters don't even wear their proper attire from the games until the movie is halfway over! And Goombas are large reptilian humanoids with tiny heads? Huh? And yes, that is the proper response after watching Super Mario Bros. (1993). Huh?At least the next movie kind of sticks to the basics of the gameplay from the source material. Kicking. Punching. Martial arts action. Robert Patrick is no longer a Terminator, but he's still a villain, and he really wants the two pieces of this shiny golden medallion. Why? I don't know. Brother Brian tries to explain it, so just listen to the episode. Billy (no, not Bimmy) and Jimmy Lee are the brothers in futuristic 2007 New Angeles, who must save not only the medallion, but also local viewers from being subjected to Vanna White and George Hamilton as newscasters!
