The Peasants explores the harsh reality of peasant life in Russia, following Nikolai Chikildeev who, as a result of sickness, has to leave his Moscow job to live with his poor family. Gooseberries is a strange story about a man who is so consumed with achieving his dream that he is indifferent to the sufferings of others. In The Lady with the Toy Dog recounts a love affair by a player -- Dmitri Gurov -- who "fooled around and fell in love" with Anna Sergeyevna, a married woman he met on vacation in Yalta. The affair seems to have come to an end, but Dmitri pursues Anna to the city.

From the outside, number 30 East Drive in Pontefract looks like any other house on the street. It is a modest 3-bedroom semi-detached council house circa the 1950s. However, it has a sinister side hiding within. This house is the domain of a somewhat evil entity who has come to be known affectionately as ‘Fred' or sometimes ‘The Black Monk' or the Pontefract poltergeist. He is believed to be the most violent poltergeist in Europe, and he has been making his presence known for more than fifty years. Poltergeist Hauntings Poltergeist (German for "rumbling ghost" or "noisy spirit") is a type of ghost or spirit that is responsible for physical disturbances, such as loud noises and objects being moved or destroyed. They often include examples of punching, scratching and capable of the movement or levitation of objects such as furniture and cutlery, or noises such as knocking on doors. Foul smells are also associated with poltergeist occurrences, as well as spontaneous fires and different electrical issues such as flickering lights. Common Experiences Even after more than 50 years, the entity that lives at 30 East Drive is anything but dormant. The official website currently lists almost 300 ‘happenings' reported from visitors, but there are many more. It seems that few visitors leave without having personal experiences. Common types of reported activity include foul smells, disembodied voices, scratches and other physical attacks, unexplained light anomalies, nausea and shadowy figures. Fred's favourite party trick is moving marbles around. Not only will he roll them or throw them, but they sometimes appear to drop through the ceiling or appear out of thin air. Some visitors have even claimed to have had marbles appear in their homes and other locations after leaving East Drive. In this episode, you will be able to: 1. Every once in a while a case will truly bubble up from the rest to present an extremely strange and strong account. Lying within the country of England is an unassuming, normal looking house, which nevertheless has managed to go on to accrue a reputation as one of the most haunted locations in the nation. Here at this abode we have a rather volatile, frightening, and violent entity that has come to be known simply as the Black Monk. The year was 1966, and a family consisting of Jean and Joe Pritchard and their two children, Phillip, 15, and Diane, 12, moved into a quiet house on 30 East Drive, in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, England. It was not long after they had settled in that strange things began to happen around the home, starting, as these things tend to, rather innocently enough. The first main incident started on September 1, 1966, when the son Philip was staying at the home with his grandmother, Sarah Scholes, while the rest of the family was away on a trip to Devon. 

Tonight's terrifying tale comes from the small market town of Pontefract, situated in West Yorkshire, England. Some of you may have heard this story, others may be new to the legend that is 30 East Drive, and to The Black Monk myth; an insidious entity that terrorised the young, innocent family who lived at the residence in the 1960's. So, what happened inside the walls of this seemingly normal house during those care free years of Peace and Love? What nightmarish events occurred and tormented the Pritchard family so badly that they had to pack up and leave? Why has no one lived in this (now) famous house ever since? And what exactly is the malevolent phantom known as The Black Monk, who roams the hallways and bedrooms waiting to torment and terrorise its next victim?Support the show
