Dawn Blezard recently took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in support of the Macular Society. She shared with our Paulina Kuchorew how it went and why she chose to tackle the mountains. Image description: four people pose by a summit stone on top of one of the peaks. They're all wearing bright yellow Macular Society t-shirts over hoodies and long sleeve shirts. The 3 Peaks Cyclo-Cross is staged in the Yorkshire Dales every year at the end of September. It is the toughest and biggest Cyclo-Cross event in the UK!. Rob Jebb has won this prestigious race more than anyone else, a whopping 13 times in his lifetime! In this podcast we will talk about Rob's early years in sport, what life is like racing now, some tips and tricks of how to ride the three peaks, what equipment considerations there are, and how you should manipulate your training going into the event. If you're racing the three peaks this year, or want to give it a go, this is not one to miss!
Here at the Country Life Podcast, we like to think we deliver a useful and necessary service. We want to discuss the important issues. We want to talk to Norman Foster about why architecture matters. We want to speak to farmers about how they can help tackle the climate crisis. We strive to compress the beauty of nature into an audio format so we can learn to cherish and appreciate the world around us.Sometimes, however, we have to ask important questions such as: ‘How can you sneak onto a yacht party at the Monaco Grand Prix?'. Thankfully, we know just such an expert. Adam Hay Nicholls has spent decades travelling the world, driving fast cars, reviewing fancy hotels and writing about Formula One. His answer? Confidence, good socks, and knowing the name of the owner of said yacht. Either that, or pretend you're from pest control. Even fancy yachts have rats, apparently. To complement this week's Horsepower Issue, Adam joined me for a chat about all things cars, travel and F1. What are some of his favourite cars that he's driven? What's it like owning a vintage Bentley? Why was he at the opening of a hotel in Dubai with Beyonce? Why is he currently trapped in a log cabin in Northumberland? All very important questions as I'm sure you'd agree. We also spoke at length about his trip around England, Scotland and Wales to complete the Three Peaks challenge. If that doesn't sound very luxurious, don't worry, we sent him off to do it in an Aston Martin. We're not yet sure whether CountryLife.co.uk will be able to hire an ‘Editor of having a jolly good time', but if we do, Adam certainly has the resumé for the role. We think you'll enjoy listening to what he's been up to.Episode creditsHost: James FisherGuest: Adam Hay-NichollsProducer and Editor: Toby KeelMusic: JuliusH via Pixabay Hosted on Acast.

Giles is the WINNER of the Three Peaks Cyclocross race in 2023 - arguably the most brutal race on skinny tyres in Yorkshire.Giles had been close to winning this race for the 4 years previous to this, and his determination and relentless personality got him to the top step eventually.Winning this race takes an unbelievable amount of fitness, but also a very unique set of skills - and a big set of balls.Aside from winning the three peaks, Giles has also won Battle on the Beach (being the only UK winner) and won many other races across both cyclocross, MTB XC, and even a few on the road!In this episode, Giles will explain all about his multiple previous attempts at winning the Three Peaks, how it all came together for the race in 2023, and what that win really felt like.We will talk about his approach to training, and what three peaks specific work he does. We will talk about life outside of cycling, what he gets up to when he is not riding his bike, and what he has planned for the future. This is an episode I am really looking forward to getting my teeth into, I got to see Giles's three peaks winning ride first hand this year and the speed he went past was astronomical. As ever, make sue you don't miss this!

Darcy also helps at Red Cliff Ascent, a wilderness therapy program that is a partner program of Three Peaks. Darcy discusses the similarities and differences between the two programs and how Three Peaks Ascent is reimbursable by insurance companies to help young people and their families get financial support for treatment. Darcy highlights the unique aspects of the Three Peaks program, such as the ability for program therapists to have phone calls and conduct family sessions with parents and students staying in yurts during their stay. She shares the story of a 15-year-old boy who has experienced significant mental health treatment and is currently covered by insurance for his treatment at Three Peaks. She also shares how Three Peaks helps young people with anxiety. Darcy reflects on her unexpected journey into the field after leaving an unhealthy job over a half dozen years ago to find purpose in helping families around a campfire at Red Cliff. Darcy also highlights the benefits of outdoor spaces on mental well-being, emphasizing the importance of providing experiences that traditional hospital settings do not offer. Darcy also reviews the upcoming 2023 Wilderness Therapy Symposium, of which she is the chairperson as well as her hopes and concerns for the future of the field. Season 17 of Stories from the Field is focused on Anxiety and is underwritten by Mountain Valley Treatment Center.

Beste vrienden van de show… Pieken, dat is wat we graag doen. Elke Het Is Koers uitzending weer... 2 in 1 sozusagen. 'Taking an all-seeing, all-knowing, conquering, dictatorial approach to managing people is going to land you in a world of pain.' Philip Levinson always dreamed of becoming a CEO, and thought he was ready. But when he got there he realised the truth: nothing can prepare you for this. In Three Peaks Leadership he shares the lessons he learned, including the fact that leading at the highest level means not just surmounting the initial challenge of securing the role (the first peak), but embedding the changes for the long term (the second peak) and charting a course for the future, including your own exit from the role (the third peak). He's disarmingly honest about the lessons he's learned in humility along the way, both in leadership and in writing this book....

Marie in her own words: Hi there, my name is Marie and I'm based in the North of England in Sheffield after moving from London in November 2019. Having spent most of my working life as a Consultant in the big smoke, I decided after 15 years it was time for a change. Whilst I still work as a Client Relationship Manager for a Sheffield SME 4 days a week, the move has allowed me to be much closer to the hills (timely with the current Covid pandemic) giving me the opportunity to spend so much more of my time getting outdoors and enabling me to achieve the sense of work-life balance that I was craving in the City. I describe myself on my Instagram bio as a skier, hiker and runner, but perhaps it would be more accurate to describe me as an avid outdoor and adventure enthusiast! I have been incredibly lucky to be able to ski and go on expeditions around the world. But I am conscious that not everyone has necessarily had that opportunity. I am also acutely aware that the outdoor sports and adventure world has typically struggled with a lack of diversity and whilst it's been great to see moves in a positive direction to redress the balance, it has been really great in the last year to be working with a team of others from Kit Collective, all passionate to be working on initiatives to help reduce some of the barriers facing people getting into the outdoors. After years of excitement of being on expeditions - searching locations, planning them, packing for them and then eventually going on them - this has led me to set up my own adventure expedition company, Three Peaks Adventures. We started in 2017 so are still in the early and growth stages of the company, and have like others in the travel industry, been particularly hit by Covid. But we're busy planning for the end of 2021 and going forwards so watch this space! I think it's incredibly important for people to be able to see other normal people, people with normal jobs and who try to squeeze getting outdoors into every available spare minute that they have, going out and doing lots of different things. Things from their doorstep but equally things that push them outside of their comfort zone. And that is what I hope to try to strive for in my roles as a Salomon Ambassador, Ordnance Survey #getoutside champion, Duke of Edinburgh supervisor and trainee assessor as well as part of my training to be a mountain leader. If people can see ordinary people like myself getting out there, hopefully it can give someone a bit of encouragement to just get out there and go for it! After the Mahabharata War, the Yadava Clan was very nearly destroyed and a Group left Bharatavarsha, now called India . They spread throughout the world and in the words of Gene D. Matlock, “Even ancient Hindu mythology states that the forefathers of the Hindus came down in successive waves from Eastern Siberia (Uttara Kuru). Even now, the major tribes in Eastern Siberia bear virtually the same names as the three major grass-roots Indian groups: Saka, Buryat, and Yakuts. In India, they became the Saka (Scythians), Bharats, and Yakhu-Deva (Now the Yadavas). The Yadavas later became the Hebrews or the Phoenicians and Jews, fathering the civilizations of all mankind. As you've read in some E-Mails I've received, some people hate me for saying that. The Bharats were the Kashi or founding leadership caste of India. The Sakas (Scythians) became the fathers of Guatama Buddha and also the Mesheks that the Bible talks about. These Mesheks became our American Indians because the Bharats and Yadavas feared them as did our forefathers in Bibleland. As I said in a prior E-Mail, the evangelican Christians, who make much of “Last Days Prophecies,” say that the Meshecks of Russia and Turkey will take us over. However, thousands of real Mesheks (Meshika) cross over into our country every day – and even ancient Mexican myths prophesied this. By the way, DNA tests proved that these Siberian groups and the Hindus of Northern India share the same DNA. I have even more proof of these matters in my files and references.' There were inroads made already into the East and the Kingdom was called the Uttara Kuru. ‘Por-Bajin is legally treated as one of the most mysterious archaeological monuments of Russia,' says the official website for the complex, about 3,800km from Moscow. ‘Apparently it was built at the period of the Uighur Khagante nomadic empire (744-840 AD), but it's not clear what they built a fortress for in such a solitary place, far from big settlements and trade routes. ‘The architecture also produces many questions and it has reminders of a model of an ideal Chinese city-palace.' Por-Bajin, which translates as ‘clay house' in the Tuvan language, is located in the very centre of Eurasia, on the borders of Russia and Mongolia. It sits on a small island in a lake high in the mountains between the Sayan and Altai ranges, about five miles west of the isolated Kungurtuk settlement in southern Siberia… ‘Bajrapur is mentioned as Vajrapur in the Harivamsa Purana. The story of Vajrapur was revealed by the ruler of Jaiselmer in the 1790s to Lt. Col. James Tod, Political Agent of the East India Company, who was researching the Rajput tribes of India which included the Yadhu tribe, of which Sri Krishna and his son Pradyamna are the most well known. The ruins of the City of Por Bajin located in Siberia bears an uncanny resemblance to the design of Dwarka City, which was the city that Sri Krishna had built earlier. The Harivamsa Purana describes the conquest of Vajrapuram in the Vishnu Paran section. It says that an a city was built by ‘builder' Nikumba for King Vajranabha with the name Vajrapuram (later Bajra Pur). The city was an ‘Asura' city in a far off land. In his work ‘The Goose in Indian Literature and Art' (Volume 2 of Memoirs of the Kern Institute), author Jean Philippe Vogel writes that the ancient Vajrapura was surrounded by a huge lake. Por Bajin, as it is called today, is surrounded by a lake called ‘Tere Kol. ‘Kul' (कूल) in Sanskrit means ‘lake', ‘pond' or ‘pool'. Or else, ‘Tere Kol' may be a distortion of ‘Tri-Kut' (त्रिकूट) meaning ‘Three Peaks or Ranges' which maybe a reference to the surrounding Altay, Sayan and Tochi Mountain Ranges. Please read my Post on Baikal https://ramanisblog.in/2015/02/07/krishnas-son-pradhyumnas-city-in-por-bajin-siberia/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ramanispodcast/message

Herausgekommen ist der gerade erschienene, sehr sehr sehenswerte Film: "Three Peaks & in Between". At this point Sofiane Sehili needs no introduction. Three days ago Sofiane finished the French Divide in 1st place and with a New Course Record to boot. After his impressive 1st place at the Atlas Mtn Race earlier this year he was looking forward to a busy and successful race year, but then Covid happened. When some restrictions were lifted he wasted no time signing up. In June he raced the Hope 1,000 and took 2nd, the following month he lined up at the Three Peaks Race and was able to take 2nd again. He went into the French Divide 10 days after coming off Three Peaks. In case you aren't counting, that's THREE ultra events in the same number of months. The fact the he even completed all three events is impressive enough alone. When you take into account his results, it is truly a remarkable achievement. I think it's worth noting that he is also just a damn nice guy who (as you will hear) isn't shy to bring attention to his competitors and highlight their achievements as well. Class act all the way around and I'm so stoked he's on team bike.

Today we are sharing a talk I had with George Bruce Wilson, from Three Peaks Films. He is an award winning Film-maker/Photographer/Creator based out of Salt Lake City, UT. We had connected via social media, having shared similar interests and creative circles, and got to catch up at the Outdoor Retailer show in Denver. George is known for his incredible climbing imagery, but he also creates in other genres and backdrops as well. So we get to talk about some of the interesting stories and take a behind the scenes look at the outdoor films and photographs that he has captured, and the adventure involved along the way.
Supported by ROSE Bikes +++ "Fail to prepare is to prepare to fail!" zitiert Torsten Frank in seinem gerade erschienenen Bericht zum Atlas Mountain Race. In 2018 she gave up Christmas again to walk the Hadrian Hundred for Homeless dressed as Wander Woman. In 2020 she will embark on a world first in Antarctica with her teammate Dwayne Fields, in a bid to raise awareness about climate change and how it effects the wildlife who call the place home, and as part of a bigger project to take a group of underprivileged young people to the White Continent in 2021 with her #WeTwo Foundation (LINK wetwoexpedition.com). Join Lionel Birnie, Hannah Troop and Ian Boswell for an episode of Explore, looking at the world of adventure riding and bikepacking. It's the first of who-knows-how-many lockdown editions of Explore and although we can't travel the world on two wheels at the moment, the series will continue with stories celebrating the freedom, friendship and spirit of adventure cycling can provide. IN THIS EPISODE 00:00 Introduction 04:00 Le Tour de Flat Meet Jacob Hill-Gowing who decided, on something of a whim, to ride the distance of the Tour de France on his exercise bike in his flat to raise money for the vendors of the Big Issue who currently cannot sell the magazine because of the coronavirus crisis. It was only after he'd committed to the challenge that it occured to him to check how long the Tour de France route is... If you want to follow Jacob's progress he is on Twitter (https://twitter.com/letourdeflat) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/letourdeflat/) . And if you want to chip in as he seeks to raise £5,000, this is his Just Giving (https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/le-tour-de-flat) page. 13:00 Ian Boswell Many of our listeners will know Ian as the former Team Sky and Katusha pro rider who retired at the end of last season and was looking ahead to a very different cycling challenge. The coronavirus has changed his plans but he too has plenty of stories to tell. This segment, recorded before the restrictions on our movement began, about fat-biking in the snow, is a warming story of friendship and freedom. 31:00 The Three Peaks Our main feature this month is on the legendary Three Peaks cyclo-cross race, held every September in Yorkshire. It's part cyclo-cross, part-fell-running event. We hear from three-time winner Nick Craig, a veteran of 21 editions Simon Scarsbrook, and EF Procycling rider Lachlan Morton, who took on the event for the first time last year. If you want to watch the films mentioned in this section, Benedict Campbell's excellent For the Love of Mud is here (https://vimeo.com/ondemand/lovemud) ; and the story of Lachlan Morton's ride was the subject of one of the EF & Rapha Gone Racing films (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jo9bCjFoZRE&t) . (24.12.2019) Minuloročné potulky Transcontinentalom inšpirovali Adama Popovca k ďalšiemu letnému dobrodružstvu. Tentoraz zvolil preteky Three Peaks Bike Race. Príjemné počúvanie a pokojné prežitie vianočných sviatkov! Foto: archív Adama Popovca
We are going long distance for a change on the latest Rouleur podcast. Lachlan Morton of EF Education First joins us to explain his thinking behind tackling some unusual and challenging events this season, a million miles away from the standard pro road racers' fare. From the GB Duro – Land's End to John O'Groats mostly on bridleways and country lanes – which Morton won, through to the legendary Three Peaks cyclo-cross in Yorkshire, the Australian has been riding with a big grin on his face having previously considered packing in road racing for a career. We also speak to another lover of ultra-distance racing, Emily Chappell, former bicycle courier and women's winner of the Transcontinental Race in 2016. Emily has an excellent new book out, Where There's a Will, detailing her trials and tribulations on the road and in life, which we highly recommend. Also, Desire editor Stuart Clapp gets the backstory and hears about the latest tweaks to the famous Castelli Gabba, the poor weather jacket of choice for the pro peloton. Ian Parkinson even lets him finish his interview without fading out… See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Michael Woods led the EF Education First team at Tour Down Under, finishing seventh on GC. Ian Parkinson talks to the Canadian who had a fine 2018 season and started this year in decent shape. He's been practising his descending using visualisation techniques, adapting to the intense heat in Australia, and building towards the Ardennes Classics. Will he have time for some gravel racing in the summer? Nick Craig is a legend of the UK off-road scene, a ten-time British cyclo-cross champion, holding numerous MTB titles and a three-time winner of the Three Peaks in Yorkshire. Now, at the age of 49, he has landed a rainbow jersey too. Ian Cleverly catches up with Nick on his fine career and finds out about the Ride For Charlie Fund, created in loving memory of Nick's son, Charlie. And talking of legends, Desire editor Stuart Clapp waxes lyrical about the Colnago Concept with (shock, horror) rim brakes. Don't @ him.He also goes off on a flight of fantasy about Rouleur's new columnist Romain Bardet – man crush and then some. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The recent Outdoors Show at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre gave us an ideal opportunity to catch up with old friends who we normally speak with over scratchy telephone lines. In this Podzine, Andy Howell talks to Ronald Turnbull about his new book “Three Peaks and Ten Tors”.
