We are not invisible” – Springhill familiesLast week the family of Loughlin Maginn settled a case against the British Ministry of Defence and the PSNI over his murder by the UDA in August 1989. While it had been widely accepted for the previous 20 years that collusion between the British Army, RUC and unionist paramilitaries was an integral part of Britain's dirty war in Ireland it was the murder of Pat Finucane in February 1989 and then of Loughlin Maginn in August that year which focussed significant attention on this practice and confirmed that collusion was a matter of administrative practice. Our Ireland Also. During one of the many excellent events at last month's Féile An Phobail Kevin Gamble, Féile Director, committed the Féile to playing a role within the arts community to counter the official narrative from the Dublin establishment about the North. The event, chaired by Clíodhna NicBhranair of Áras Uí Chonghaile was titled Our Ireland Also.  Historians Liz Gillis, Lorcan Collins, Tom Hartley and Cormac Moore, all accomplished authors, explored the partitionist mindset of the southern state and its origins. It was a fascinating and well attended discussion. The panel was informed and entertaining and the speakers were very obviously pleased to have an engaged and interested audience. Moore Street ScandalThe battle to Save Moore Street – the historic last meeting place of the 1916 leaders and from where they were taken to be court-martialled and executed by the British – has taken many twists and turns over recent months and years.

Contributor: Dr Cormac Moore Talk Title: Sir Ernest Clark - 'Midwife to the New Province of Ulster' Talk Synopsis: This talk explores the role of Sir Ernest Clark in creating the administrative structures for the Northern Ireland government. It describes the background to his appointment as Assistant Under-Secretary to Ireland in September 1920, his relations with civil service colleagues in Dublin and unionist politicians and the challenges that he faced in establishing ‘government departments… at a time when the political environment in Ireland was extremely volatile'. It suggests that whilst Sir Ernest Clark is now a ‘largely forgotten figure' he was ‘one of the main architects in giving the new Northern Ireland entity tangible form.' It also looks at some of the security risks that Clark faced during his time in Belfast, his efforts to deal with community tensions and the affection that he came to feel for Northern Ireland – a place that he later described as having become ‘written across my heart and life'. Short Biography: Dr Cormac Moore is an historian with Dublin City Council's Decade of Commemorations Programme. The 1921 partition of Ireland had huge ramifications for almost all aspects of Irish life and was directly responsible for hundreds of deaths and injuries, with thousands displaced from their homes and many more forced from their jobs. Two new justice systems were created; the effects on the major religions were profound, with both jurisdictions adopting wholly different approaches; and major disruptions were caused in crossing the border, with invasive checks and stops becoming the norm.Very little has been written on the actual effects of partition, the-day-to-day implications, and the complex ways that society, north and south, was truly and meaningfully affected. Cormac Moore's Birth of the Border: The Impact of Partition in Ireland is the most comprehensive account to date on the far-reaching effects of the partitioning of Ireland. In this episode author and Dublin City Council historian-in-residence Cormac Moore explains how the partition of Ireland in 1920 came about. This weekend and next, on Documentary on Newstalk, Producer Brian Byrne brings you the story of Dublin’s past, as told by the city’s six historians in residence - in History in Residence... History in Residence premieres on Newstalk 106-108fm on Sunday Jan 12th at 7am, with a repeat broadcast on Saturday Jan 18th at 9pm. In 2016 thousands of people took to the streets across the country to take part in events commemorating the Easter Rising. In Dublin alone there were over 100 different community events. This was when Dublin City Council identified the real appetite for history in the city, and the need for community-based history resource. This was how the historians in residence program was born. The following year in 2017, the council hired 6 historians in residence (the first of their kind in the city) with the mandate to take history down from the ‘ivory tower’ of academia, and back into our communities. To deepen and empower public connection to the past, promoting a sense of historical identity and pride - and to show that history can be just as much about the present, as it is the past. “It’s probably unique that a local authority and a library service is taking historians and encouraging them to go out and talk to people about history. I think sometimes people are overwhelmed by history, or it’s boring or its too much, or I don't know how to do it or its hard to read, we wanted to just let people to have access and engagement to history, to be able to to go to a talk or a walk, or take part in a discussion, exhibition. It’s just bringing history out onto the streets if you like. Making it that bit easier to tap into. And I think their enthusiasm and their passion for history just comes across when you talk to them, they just love history and talking to people about history, and that’s just infectious and its very positive.” Tara Doyle, Senior Librarian, Dublin City Council Cathy Scuffil, Maeve Casserly, Mary Muldowney, Cormac Moore, Bernard Kelly and James Curry make up the team of historians. They each have their ‘own’ area of Dublin to work in, and over the past 2 years they’ve held talks, given guided walks, helped the revival of weaving in the Liberties, started history clubs, oral history projects and made history engaging for people from all walks of life. This documentary follows the work of the historians in residence, and takes you on a journey across Dublin and into its past, featuring little known stories behind some of Dublin’s history- like why the forty foot is called the forty foot, why Hannah Sheehy Skeffington did to the census or the origin of the animals which once adorned our coins. BROADCAST TIMES: History in Residence premieres on Newstalk 106-108fm on Sunday Jan 12th at 7am, with a repeat broadcast on Saturday Jan 18th at 9pm. PODCAST: The programme will be available for download from newstalk.com after the broadcast. CREDITS: History in Residence was produced by Brian Byrne & funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland with the television license fee. MAIN EPISODEOn this episode of Those Conspiracy Guys we don the Red Shield and crack the door on the vault that holds one of the biggest secrets in the world; the organisation that has control over everything we buy, sell, use and consume and we don't even truly know how it works; The Federal Reserve. Born of a turbulent financial climate in the years after the War of Independence, The Federal Reserve idea was one of stability and unity. The attempt by politicians and European bankers to consolidate the American banking businesses of the early 19th century in an effort to stabilise the dollar as currency was met with disdain by president and layman alike. After Andrew Jackson refused to use this system and led America to its first and only government budget surplus the War of 1812 and then the Civil War came and the economy needed an injection of funds to pay for the war effort. The North with its banking knowhow bamboozled the Western and Southern States were decimated at small banking businesses all went bankrupt trying to cover the debts and loans these banks held. After myriad financial crisis JP Morgan and his cohorts met at the famous Jekyll Island to draw up the plans for a more permanent and profitable solution. This Duck Hunt turned into the birth of the Fed and also of the shady banking practices that has kept the Fed so secret and the world economy reliant on the petrodollar.Questionable but necessary banking practices are needed to keep this financial system afloat. Quantitive Easing is one of the tools used to make sure the system doesn't collapse but its tantamount to robbing Peter to pay Paul on a global scale. Fractional Reserve lending too is critiqued to be a fundamentally flawed system and recent global economic crashes give us a notion of where this system of finance is headed. One family name who always crops up in matters like these are The Rothschilds and their influence over the Federal Reserve of America is not totally confirmed but to those who are aware it is undeniable. The creation of the IRS and The Federal Reserve simultaneously is also no coincidence and these forces together plan to keep America in a debt and spending cycleThe Fed doesn't just have the blood of the world's floundering economy on its hands; originators of the Federal Reserve Banking system have been accused of assassinating opposing President too. JFK alleged killed by banking agents after expressing distrust for the system; Abraham Lincoln too was vocal of his disdain after the war and was shot by a member of a dark cabal. Andrew Jackson barely survived an attempt on his life and his banker backed assassin told police he had protection from Europe So join us co-conspiritors as we make a withdrawal from the bank of knowledge and reserve a spot in the den of vipers to listen to the tale of a usurers dream and a concept that has the world enslaved since one person wanted something of another; this time on Those Conspiracy Guys its the Federal Reserve.Presented by Gordo, Cormac Moore and Robert CoyleYou can find Cormac on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/CormacComedy and you can find his show at http://www.twitter.com/p10podcast or at www.project10.com or any podcast app!---LIVE SHOW ANNOUNCEMENTIm doing a LIVE SHOW as part of the Cork Podcast Festival this weekend on Saturday 12th October in Kino theatre in Cork City. TRUE CRIME - On this episode of Those Conspiracy Guys we discuss one of the more famous miscarraiges of justice with an Arkansas trio of young men, known as The West Memphis 3, who were convicted of the murders of three boys in the city of West Memphis, served 18 years in prison, and were released after a celebrity star studded campaign for justice allowed them to be set free under a legal technicality.Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Miskelly Jnr were said to have brutally taken the lives of Stevie Branch, Chris Byers and Michael Moore in what was purported to the court to be a satanic paedophile sex ritual. These lads were put through the legal system ringer and evidence and testimony stacked up against them. With new evidence, reinterviewing of witnesses, multiple documentaries and a concerted public effort to rebalance the scales of justice, the West Memphis 3 were released from prison in 2011. But the question remains, who did kill those three little boys? Fingers are pointed at many people involved closely with the case and even a few mysterious figures. On this episode we talk about the modern classic science-fi mystery action movie Super8. This movie gives us all the good early teen movie feels and drags us back to the simpler cinema era of Spielberg, Donner and Reiner films where a gang of kids can get into some crazy adventure and not be apathetic or disaffected about it! This heart warming and bearably schmaltzy film comes from the mind of the man who has all our childhood dreams in his hands these days, JJ Abrams. Arguably his first 'solo' film, he wrote and directed Super8 and made no secret of it being a love letter to the movies of his childhood like E.T., The Goonies and Stand By Me.
