“Christo e Jeanne-Claude: Paris” é a exposição em cartaz no Centro Pompidou, na capital francesa, que destaca o trabalho de uma das duplas mais marcantes da arte contemporânea, durante o período que viveram em Paris, de 1958 a 1964. Eles ficaram conhecidos pelas instalações gigantescas em que “embrulharam” grandes monumentos, como o Parlamento Alemão, em Berlim, em 1995, e a Ponte Neuf, em Paris, em 1985. A mostra estava prevista para abrir em março, mas foi adiada por causa da pandemia. Christo acabou morrendo em maio, aos 84 anos, em Nova York. Jeanne-Claude faleceu em 2009, de um aneurisma. Ambos nasceram no mesmo dia, 13 de junho de 1935, Christo na Bulgária e Jeanne-Claude, no Marrocos, onde seu pai era um militar francês de família aristocrata. Christo Vladimirov Javacheff fugiu do regime comunista e chegou a Paris em 1958. Para ganhar a vida, fazia retratos a óleo da burguesia parisiense, enquanto paralelamente realizava seus trabalhos pessoais. O quadro de uma grande dama da sociedade levou Christo a conhecer sua mulher, Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guillebon. Visitar a exposição é conhecer uma grande história de amor e a fase francesa dos artistas, que em 1964 se mudaram definitivamente para os Estados Unidos. Pacotes intrigantes  Christo empacotava tudo e qualquer coisa. Primeiro, pequenos objetos, como latas, usando lonas, tecido, cordas, arames e verniz. “Há de tudo, mas ele se recusava a dizer o que tinha no interior dos empacotamentos”, diz a curadora Sophie Duplaix. “O que interessa a ele é o volume, como fazer para destacar objetos retirando deles as próprias características, procurar as linhas de força desses volumes, não com o traço, mas com cordas. Seus embrulhos são variados, precisos e diferentes uns dos outros”, acrescenta Duplaix. Ainda em Paris, sua primeira instalação foi também um ato político e engajado, em 1962. Com barris de petróleo vazios e retrabalhados, ele fechou uma rua de Paris de madrugada, uma referência ao muro de Berlim, que ele viu sendo construído. Os barris também estão no Beaubourg. Jeanne-Claude, cúmplice e colaboradora desde então, saiu dos bastidores em 1994, quando a dupla passou a assinar juntos as obras em exteriores. Em 2016, durante uma mostra na Fundação Maeght, em Saint Paul de Vence, no Sul da França, ele falou com a RFI. “Sempre fui um nômade. Fugi do comunismo, era um tempo difícil de se sobreviver. Eu já era estudante de arte, queria ir para Paris e consegui. A minha vida é a arte. A arte antes de tudo, liberdade total para a arte”, disse. Incômodo temporário Quando Jeanne-Claude morreu, em 2009, ela estava trabalhando no projeto para cobrir uma ponte de 10km de extensão em Arkansas, nos Estados Unidos. Christo falou à RFI a respeito da intervenção da dupla em espaços públicos: “É uma área que pertence a milhares de pessoas. O objetivo é criar um incomodo temporário. As pessoas ficam incomodadas e precisar prestar atenção no lugar onde pisam, literalmente”. A exposição no Beaubourg de Paris traz todas as etapas do “empacotamento” da Ponte Neuf, um projeto que levou dez anos para ser concretizado, em 1985. Há muitos croquis, desenhos, cálculos, correspondências e fotos. A exposição sobre Christo e Jeanne-Claude no Centro Pompidou acontece até 19 de outubro de 2020, mas no ano que vem, a dupla assina ainda um outro projeto já confirmado: o empacotamento do Arco do Triunfo, em Paris.
