President Donald Trump en consorten zorgen met hun bemoeienissen op ons continent voor aardig wat onrust. Als een kudde olifanten walsen ze over Europa heen, niet langer zijn ze onze grote vriend uit het Westen. Begin deze week kwamen zeven vooraanstaande Europese leiders bijeen in Parijs voor een spoedoverleg, ook de Britse premier Keir Starmer was daarbij. Want het is wel even billenknijpen voor Europa, ook in het Verenigd Koninkrijk moeten ze zich weerbaar maken en voorsorteren op de uitspattingen vanuit het Witte Huis. Starmer is bereid om Britse grondtroepen naar Oekraïne te sturen als er een vredesdeal met Rusland wordt bereikt. Dit is de eerste keer dat Starmer zich zo expliciet heeft uitgesproken over de mogelijke inzet van een Britse vredesmacht in Oekraïne. Sterker nog, de Britse premier zegt dat het VK ‘klaar is om een leidende rol te spelen in de Oekraïense defensie en veiligheid, inclusief de toezegging van £3 miljard pond per jaar tot 2030. Haalbaar of trekt Starmer een iets te grote broek aan? Ook in deze aflevering Al eerder bespraken we tijdens deze podcast dat de Britten ‘s avonds steeds minder lang in de pub blijven hangen en dus draaien pubs veel minder omzet in de late uurtjes: de nachteconomie is tanende. De Zaanstreek loopt over van de vreemdste verhalen. Onze stagiair Jens Huis weet daar wel raad mee. Hij laat mensen hun vreemde verhaal vertellen, speciaal voor jou. Zo stuitte Jens deze week op het verhaal van Floris van koffiebranderij Gebrand op Smaak uit Wormer. Hij kreeg laatst een vreemd reparatieverzoek en deelde die ervaring met De Orkaan.

En dat was januari. Bijna, want voor de maand in de geschiedenisboeken verdwijnt hebben wij nog ons weekoverzicht voor je gemaakt. We konden, en wilden er niet omheen. Er was deze week veel 112-nieuws. Niet iedereen vindt dat even leuk, maar toch vinden we dat we ongelukken, autobranden en overvallen moeten melden. Zo was Michel bij de overval van elektronicawinkel Entertainment CEX Exchange op de Gedempte Gracht. Ook vertelt hij over het grote ongeval op de A8 waardoor de snelweg lang afgesloten was. Renée vertelt over haar gesprek met Astrid Mannes van Welzijn Wonen Plus. Zij organiseert speciale middagen voor jonge mantelzorgers zodat ze even leuke dingen kunnen doen. Nick praat je bij over hoe de adviescommissie van Zaanstad omgaat met de bezwaren tegen de omgevingsvergunning voor de mislukte pilot met toegangsheffing op de Zaanse Schans. Rick was bij de Holocaust Memorial Day en vertelt wat zijn indruk was van die bijeenkomst in de Bullekerk. Ook is hij een beetje bedroefd omdat de nachttrein tussen Alkmaar en Amsterdam Centraal niet op Zaandam zal stoppen. Onze enthousiaste stagiair Jens sprak met Floris van koffiebranderij Gebrand op Smaak uit Wormer over een vreemd reparatieverzoek. Welkom bij aflevering 3 van het vijfde seizoen van De Biervrienden Podcast! Back to the roots, want de heren nemen dit keer op bij en met biervriend Michael in Culemborg. Het luisteraarsbiertje kwam deze keer uit handen van Michael. Ondanks zijn ietwat nukkige houding richting de IPA's, verraste hij Maarten en Thom met de Hammer Smashed Mango van Brouwerij Bliksem. En een verassing was het zeker, aangezien Michael dit biertje als beste kon waarderen. Het perfecte Biervriendenbiertje voor Michael, aldus Maarten. Hij verzorgde de Zeit Tawny, een unieke samenwerking tussen Pohjala en Weihenstephan. Michael's lievelingsbrouwerij gecombineerd met een voor hem unieke bierstijl: dat moest een hitje gaan worden. En deze parel van een bier was ook nog eens als onderdeel van de Cellar Series van Pohjala gerijpt op Tawny, Ruby en Witte portvaten. Genieten! In het heerlijk chaotische thema van Thom werden Michael en Maarten wederom beproefd. Op zoek naar revanche voor De Pilstest, en als uitbreiding op het thema uit de aflevering Ho(l)ger of Lager, ging Thom op zoek naar het prijskaartje van beide mannen als het gaat om hun biersmaak. In elke ronde werden de mannen een goedkope, een middenmoot en een dure variant van een bepaalde bierstijl voorgeschoteld, waarna de mannen hun favoriete bier kozen om zo vast te stellen hoe prijzig hun smaak is.
