Michael Turner on how being an underdog fueled his fire, the time he busted Peanut’s lip, taking the NFL by story with the Falcons On the latest NFL Players: Second Acts podcast, Peanut and Roman are joined by former Pro Bowl running back Michael “The Burner” Turner for a conversation that’s equal parts hilarious, raw, and unexpectedly emotional. Turner opens up about his Chicago roots, the NIU days that put him on the map, and the famous moment he busted Peanut’s lip — a hit so real it became Peanut’s personal “Welcome to the NFL” moment. Roman jumps in with his own memories, including getting run over by Turner in college and the struggle of trying to tackle a back who was both big AND fast at every level. Turner reflects on feeling overlooked, being pissed on draft day, and spending years behind LaDainian Tomlinson while quietly building a chip on his shoulder the size of Soldier Field. He breaks down how he finally got his shot in Atlanta, replacing Warrick Dunn, validating himself in Week 1, and becoming one of the league’s most feared workhorse backs. The “what if” thoughts that still linger about his career Plus: Peanut and Roman relive the Saints–Falcons rivalry, the Pro Bowl “bigger pants” story, and the legendary Peanut Punch that happened right in front of Turner’s family. By the end, Turner shares why he walked away on his own terms, why he never wanted to wear another jersey, and why — despite every slight, setback, and overlooked moment — his journey was absolutely worth it. If you've ever wondered how to fully step into the best version of yourself — before the world even sees it — this episode is for you. One of my mentees, Brady Hutchins flips the script and interviews me on everything from overcoming limiting beliefs, to staying present in every interaction, to finding your God-given purpose. You'll hear raw, behind- the-scenes, never before told stories from my experiences coaching elite athletes like Drew Brees, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Jordan Love, as well as lessons that apply to anyone — from pro athletes to parents, entrepreneurs, and everyday leaders. This is a conversation about the stuff you don't see on TV — the pain, the setbacks, the faith, and the relentless mindset it takes to keep going when the voices in your head say, “I can't.” Here are the big questions Coach Hutchins asks me at his recent Retreat held at IMPACT-X Performance (Huntington Beach, CA): What are the most common limiting beliefs you've seen — even in high performers? We talk about the “I can't” voice that lives in all of us and how to shut it down. How can someone start owning their potential now, even before the evidence shows up? We dig into the idea of being him (or her) before you're him (or her) — and what that looks like in everyday life. How do you maintain energy and presence whether you're with NFL MVPs or brand-new clients? I share some of my behind-the-scenes hacks and why every person is important and the power of truly listening. Can you share a behind-the-scenes story from your time with a pro athlete? From Drew Brees' shoulder injury and devastating personal loss… to his Super Bowl win, we talk about the unseen grit and faith it took to get there. What's a more current example of an athlete's life off the field? The untold story of Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love, his personal tragedy, and his mission to use his platform to help others. How do you find mentors at the highest level? This is where I talk about how and why mentors often “appear” as you grow — and why you should seek them in multiple areas of life. How do you handle situations where you can't directly mentor someone who wants it? I share WHY every company should consider a continuum of coaching — from physical to mindset to leadership to life. How do you discover your deepest, divine purpose? We go deep into my own journey — from football dreams, to a career-ending injury, to finding my calling in helping people change their lives. This episode is going to challenge you to think differently about your identity, your purpose, and your path forward. Whether you're at the top of your game or just getting started, these principles will help you step more boldly into the person you were created to be. Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson sat with Ryan, Channing and Fred to talk about his football career and personal life, transcending from his childhood to family values to his unique path to the NFL as well as shares some of his truths and misconceptions along the way. There is a certain weight professional athletes carry when they make it to the pinnacle of their sport. As is the case with certain players, though, the pressures can lead to emotions they've never felt before. For LaDainian Tomlinson, growing up with just his mom in a place that held so much negative history was the burden he bore. Tomlinson was a fifth overall pick, played in five Pro Bowls and still holds the NFL record for rushing and scrimmage yards in a season from his 2006 MVP campaign with the Chargers. He was on top of the world for a stretch of seasons and after finishing college as a Heisman finalist, had dominated at each level of the sport. LT gets into the truth behind why he kept his helmet on during the AFC Championship game that he was sidelined for and shares one of his most disappointing moments in life. Growing up without a dad in the picture very much caught up to him, and left a hole in his life and a desire to get to know his dad more and have the opportunity to spend time with him, but when his dad passed in 2007, LaDainian felt like the chance was missed to get to know him and understand the man he really was. Through his faith and acceptance, he began a journey to learn about his ancestry, and soon found out that his relative's home of Tomlinson Hill was a slave plantation his ancestors had worked on. His career that he has described as “close but no cigar” had many iconic moments away from the game, and LT touches on his iconic Hall of Fame acceptance speech as well as his “A Football Life” feature. With all of his jukes, hurdles and power moves throughout his career, LaDainian Tomlinson's biggest pivots came away from the game. His championship moments will define his legacy, and his calls for unity represent both history and the future he is hoping to help build. Learn more about your ad choices. Dan and David analyze the latest buzz surrounding the coaching hire and buy or sell the biggest Chargers storylines and overreactions. Will Keenan Allen retire a Charger? After one of his best seasons LA should be trying to extend him before letting him walk. Dreams and intentions do come true. It was my intention in 2023 to have Pastor David Jeremiah on the podcast. But between our schedules, we couldn't make it work…until NOW. Just a few weeks ago, “Dr J” asked me if I could come to Christian Schools and he could interview me at chapel in front of his 1,200 students. Furthermore, he said we could use that for the podcast. BOOM. It turned out more like a deep conversation on many pertinent topics and I think you're going to enjoy it! Divine timing as 2023 comes close to an end. On today's IMPACT SHOW podcast, hear Dr Jeremiah and I on stage talking about a range of topics. Some of the questions/topics he asks me about include: Tell me/us more about your 1st pro-client, LaDainian Tomlinson, and you got him started on his road to fame, success, and the Hall of Fame? How about Drew Brees, Darren Sproles, and Chris Young (GM, Texas Rangers and recent World Series winner)… How do you take your thoughts and turn them into fire? What's the “Iron Sharpens Iron” philosophy? Pastor Jeremiah's and my top favorite exercises and WHY… Pastor Jeremiah sharing his wisdom on feelings, discipline, will-power, and ultimately how you get more done in a day. What does “sprint-rest” mean and how does that relate to “balance” in life? The importance of sleep and a few hacks to improve the quality of your sleep. What's God calling you to do these days and how are you going to respond & be obedient? What an honor on so many levels. Pastor Jeremiah has been a HUGE IMPACT in my Life and what a year. Between speaking on Father's Day this past June, speaking on his Alaskan Cruise with over 1,000 people this summer, training him regularly, presenting at chapel 3x in 2023, … and now THIS, it has been one heckuva year. He's someone who inspires me daily and whom I have learned a tremendous amount of wisdom from. I think you will hear a ton of his wisdom in this week's IMPACT SHOW. Enjoy! The last time the New York Jets made the NFL playoffs, Mark Sanchez was their quarterback, LaDainian Tomlinson was their leading rusher, and The Social Network was about to come out on DVD. Now, 13 years later, the Jets finally believe they've found the right guy to lead them back. Today, we look at the events that led Aaron Rodgers and the Jets to each other, and whether this football marriage — in a pressure cooker — is built to go the distance. Plus, the emerging connection between Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson, and a potential drawback from the Jets' appearance on Hard Knocks this season.Guest: Zack Rosenblatt, The AthleticListen to the Can't Wait podcastSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Kareem Hunt's decision whether to join the Colts or not holds significant meaning in honoring his fellow running back. We explore the considerations Hunt might be facing and what his choice means for the running back community. The absence of Zach Martin in Dallas is a topic of concern, and we discuss why this absence could have a significant impact on the Cowboys. Tune in to find out why Martin's presence is crucial for the team's success. Shifting gears, we address the criticism surrounding Mac Jones and why it's simply ridiculous. With his skill set and potential, Jones is set to make a mark in the league, and we break down the reasons why. Chris Johnson joins us to share his proudest accomplishment in the NFL, which surprisingly isn't rushing for 2,000 yards in 2009. He also opens up about counseling young players to reconsider playing running back and why he considers joining the Jets one of his biggest regrets. Lastly, we explore the Titans' path to the Super Bowl and why it's a legitimate possibility. With the right strategies and a strong roster, the Titans could make a surprising run for the championship.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
