On the 56th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, author James Campion, review the 1977 legendary album by Rod Stewart, "Foot Loose & Fancy Free." "Foot Loose & Fancy Free" was Rod Stewart's eighth studio album. It continued Rod's 70's solo artist success. Rod's legendary vocals were in prime condition and he had tremendous band behind him. He had three guitarists, Gary Grainger, Jim Cregan and Billy Peek. His bassist was renowned session player Phil Chen. The keyboard player was Jon Barlow Jarvis and on the drums was the legendary Carmine Appice. This band could match up with any other band in the 1970's. The album featured three huge hits that have been in rotation on rock radio since the album was released, including "Hot Legs," "You're In My Heart (The Final Acclaim)" and "I Was Only Joking." Those three songs even had videos which were starting to become fashionable. The album also includes typical Rod Stewart ballads, some funk, some psychedelic rock, prog rock and more. The album made it to Number 2 on the US Billboard charts and has now gone 3X platinum. The album was produced by legendary Tom Dowd and was considered the last of his rocking 70's albums. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Zeus' pick. So tune in to the documentary type of breakdown of the "Hot Legs" video and to see if the guys man crush on Rod is stronger than theirs on Michael Hutchence of INXS! My guest in this episode is Ara Lee James. Ara has a voice that can sing anything and a way with words that is truly transcendent. Her voice is powerful — in its strength and its tenderness. And I’m not the only one who thinks so.Music Presenter, Sue Svendsen, wrote, “Ara Lee is the best singer I’ve ever heard. Period. But what she does is more than that. To hear her live is gut-wrenching, heart-soaring - it’s a spiritual awakening.”Gary Grainger, an award-winning Independent Blues Broadcaster from the UK, says, “No matter what tribe of the world you align yourself with, Ara Lee’s music will speak to you at a primeval level, awakening emotions and spirits from your past, from our past.”And Arnold Schwarzenegger said, “I’ve never heard anyone sing like that in my life.” But it’s not just Ara’s voice that’s incredible. Her story is too. It starts in New York, where she was born, moves to Appalachia, where she cut her teeth singing harmony out of a church songbook, and then back to NYC. It was there, just as she was starting to find herself as a young woman, that she lost her voice and her way — for thirteen whole years.Ten years ago, Ara walked into my vocal studio, student information sheet in hand. Part of her story was on that sheet — but until this interview, I only knew the barest outline of what she was working through. Her story is about a voice lost and found — the rebirth of a singer’s soul that, along with her voice, will take your breath away.I highly recommend putting some headphones on for this episode. You won’t want to miss a word or a sound. For full show notes, transcriptions of this episode, and more offerings for singers, you can visit my website HERE.Please join me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. You can find Ara Lee James on Facebook, Instagram, or on her website. The songs from today’s episode are called BORN, and AHO from the album BORN. Is the musician's life different when you get to experience it within your own family? Andy had an opportunity to sit down with Greg and Gary Grainger to chat about the industry, their family, their influences, and their career. Both are highly respected musicians in the industry with Greg being a drummer and Gary being a bass player. Listen as the brothers share stories about their tours, their collaborations, and their thoughts on how the industry has changed.  Gary and Greg grew up with a music loving father who instilled the same love in them and their brothers. They both found their preferred instrument and continued to practice, play, and perfect their crafts. After high school, they went on to perform with a variety of top tier names adding their expertise to the industry.  Between the two of them they've worked with such names as Whitney Houston, John Scofield, Earth, Wind & Fire, and together they created the band Pockets. They have a unique ability to lock with the drums and bass so that they're creating a harmonious beat for every song.  Their love of music gives them the freedom to study all its forms and create truly unique sounds. Between working with Latino artists, heavy metal artists, jazz artists, and more they've created a blend of music that is inspiring.  Listen and learn all about their history and why they think the industry needs a reboot. They're doing their part by having created The MusicianShip program and hope that more do the same. The Grainger Brothers’ talent and prowess in the world of music and rhythm is unparalleled.  Between the two of them, Gary Grainger on bass and Greg on drums have recorded or performed with the likes of Whitney Houston and John Scofield, and together opened up for Earth Wind And Fire while on tour with their band, Pockets, all while keeping their musical roots and strong brotherhood bond at the forefront of their work. The brothers took many separate paths in their musical careers, as well as some similar ones too, that led them both to finding musical success from the late 70s to present day. Today Andy, Gary, and Greg explore the brothers’ fascinating and ever-changing journey to becoming recognized as one of the best rhythm section duos in today’s music. They also share stories on the dynamics of what it’s like to perform and create together as brothers and as colleagues, how they keep their skills so versatile, and what it’s like to perform in venues as small as a one room club to as large as Madison Square Garden. Nowadays, the brothers are still busy touring, recording, and have even helped developed The Musicianship, a non-profit aimed at bringing music to youth to empower, educate , and inspire them.  Music lovers and those who appreciate the story of rising stars won’t want to miss this episode.
