The Third Story Podcast with Leo Sidran

Self-proclaimed “badass and blind” singer, songwriter, guitarist Raul Midón in an expansive and deeply personal conversation about music, identity, independence, and the art of seeing clearly without sight. From his childhood fascination with radio and jazz in a small New Mexico town to his breakout moment in New York with legendary producer Arif Mardin, Midón shares the story of how he forged his unique artistic path. Blind since infancy, Midón has navigated life and a career with extraordinary intention and vision. He discusses the development of his signature sound — a percussive, virtuosic guitar style combined with his soulful voice and signature trumpet-like vocal improvisation — as well as his time as a session singer, his decision to pursue a solo career, and his commitment to self-producing and engineering his own records. Here he also touches on his political awareness, his reflections on artistry and authenticity, and the spiritual and philosophical dimensions of making music. Whether he's performing solo or recording in his Maryland home studio, Midón offers a masterclass in independence, self-expression, and the power of knowing — and trusting — yourself. www.third-story.comwww.leosidran.substack.com www.wbgo.org/podcast/the-third-story

Lastly, Wednesday marks what would have been soul singer Marvin Gaye’s 86th birthday. In celebration of his life and legacy, his sister Zeola Gaye and the Elite Success Talent Group have put together the musical production “The Evolution of My Brother Marvin Tribute.” The show will be at The Buckhead Theatre on Thursday, April 3. Rose talks with Zeola Gaye and Chae Stephen, who portrays the timeless artist. Episode 79. Host Troy Saunders has his latest conversation with award-winning soul singer and songwriter Teri Tobin. Her music is uplifting and soothing, from the heart, a spiritual experience, all in one beautiful package.Teri does the interview from her home in Arizona. She was born there, raised in Southern California, lived all over the place, eventually ending up in Houston. After a hurricane damaged her home and caused her to lose her job, she decided it was time to go back home to be with her family.Teri has performed from a very young age, starting in church, and then getting signed as a teenager to a deal as part of an R&B and hip-hop soul act. When that project faltered, she pursued a promised solo deal that never materialized, before finally finding her place at Howard University, where she found her footing and developed her signature sound of hybrid musical influences from soulful rock to jazzy R&B. Album releases include “Love Infinity” (2011), “Good To Me” (2012), and “Truth Is” (2014).Since her last album, she's dealt with writer's block and a severe bout of COVID that affected her voice, so it's never been the same. She shares a touching story about how when she recorded a song with her “new” voice, she was forced to re-record the lead vocals and face new challenges while still in recovery, which helped her build her confidence to keep making music. She's currently working on her fifth album, “Forever,” and discusses how she is a true indie artist. She has produced and recorded almost all of her own music, and handles every aspect of her music and career. She's hoping that the new album will be out by the fall, so follow her social media accounts for news about the upcoming release and her performance schedule.Listen and subscribe to the BAAS Entertainment Podcast on Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Deezer, iHeartRadio, Pandora, Podchaser, Spotify, Stitcher and TuneIn. “Hey, Alexa. Cornell called in from the United Kingdom, where he's working on collaborations and promoting his new single, “It's So Nice”. He starts off by expressing how important it is to him to build upon the legacy of the amazing artists who have come before him.For many years, he was devoted to taking care of his family. While he was always on stage and performing, working as a session and background singer, he didn't dedicate himself to his own music career until his children were old enough for him to put himself out there and follow his passion for music. He has opened for legendary artists including James Brown, Ray Charles, The Whispers, The Temptations, Natalie Cole, and Kool and the Gang.Cornell has dedicated his entire career to his older brother Donald, an incredible talent with an amazing voice who was tragically killed in a car accident at age 18. Cornell still feels his brother's presence every time he opens his voice to sing.Troy plays tracks from Cornell's debut album, “Vindicated Soul,” followed by “One Love,” the album that put Cornell on the map and remains his most popular release. If you discovered Cornell's music on “One Love,” be sure to check out the rest of his catalog.Troy and Cornell engage in a deep discussion that everyone needs to hear about the legacy of Black music and the difference between those who appreciate and honor it and those that try to appropriate it. They delve into how vital it is for today's artists to look back at what they are building on and how important that musical foundation is to the culture. This discussion alone is worth your time to check out this episode.Cornell has a vault of songs recorded for his upcoming sixth album, “Let It Go”. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with P.P. Arnold, Renowned R&B, Soul Singer, Author, “Soul Survivor” About Harvey's guest: Today's special guest, P.P. Arnold, is a phenomenal soul singer whose lifetime of show-stopping performances, in the recording studio and on the stage, have made her a legend.   She began singing in church as a child, and at the age of four, she became lead soloist.   At the age of 17, with virtually NO show business experience, armed with only a spectacular voice and remarkable stage presence, she was hired by Ike and Tina Turner to sing and dance with them as an “Ikette”  in the “Ike and Tina Turner Review”.  While on tour in the UK with the Rolling Stones in 1966, she developed a close relationship with Mick Jagger, who persuaded her to stay in England, and record as a solo artist.   She was the first female artist to sign with Immediate Records.  With hit songs including “Everything's Gonna Be Alright”, “The First Cut is the Deepest”, “The Time Has Come”, “If You Think You're Groovy”, and everybody's favourite, “Angel of the Morning”, she became known as “The First Lady of Immediate Records”, and England's undisputed Queen of Soul.   She's had a rich, amazing five-decade career working with everyone from Mick Jagger to Rod Stewart, Roy Orbison, Eric Clapton, Barry Gibb, Peter Gabriel, Roger Waters, Paul Weller, John Cougar Mellencamp and so many more.   She sang on the original “Jesus Christ Superstar” album.  She starred in the original London production of Andrew Lloyd Weber's groundbreaking show, “Starlight Express”.   And yes, that is her voice singing with Andy Gibb on the beautiful duet, “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”.   And if you're a Peter Gabriel fan, you can thank OUR GUEST for making his songs “Sledgehammer” and “Big Time”, so memorable.  And the same can be said of her duet with Roger Waters on the legendary song, “Perfect Sense”.    Earlier this year she released her highly anticipated memoir entitled, “Soul Survivor”, which is an intensely personal, brutally honest, compelling - and at times shocking - account of her turbulent, but always passionate life.   And she's just released her very first Christmas single, “It Won't Be Christmas Without You”, which has that soulful 60's vibe and is already becoming an instant classic. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ https://pparnold.com/https://www.facebook.com/pparnoldofficialhttps://instagram.com/pp_arnoldhttps://www.youtube.com/user/pparnoldangelhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/5TjpsMnYz8lxTr91olqbEhhttps://twitter.com/PPArnold1https://pparnold.lnk.to/TheNewAdventures #PParnold    #harveybrownstoneinterviews
