Blues is the Truth #804 We are straight back to business this week with a massive stack of tunes that needs absolutely no introduction. No requests, no fluff, just two full hours of pure, unadulterated groove from some of the best to ever do it. We are setting the mood early with the legendary Taj Mahal and the hypnotic blues-rock vibe of Medicine Head, before dipping into some classic vocal harmony from The 5 Royales. The temperature rises quickly from there with The Cashbox Kings, Blues Messenger, and the searing guitar work of Tinsley Ellis. For the deep, historic roots, we've got the delta giant Bukka White in the building, alongside a brilliant collaboration from Carl Carlton and Melanie Wiegmann, and the godfather himself, John Mayall. We are keeping that classic energy high with soulful runs from Curtis Salgado, the king Buddy Guy, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and the vintage jazz-blues vocals of Helen Humes. The second half is a masterclass in harmonica-driven heat and modern grit. You will hear Russ Green, The Four Flames, and the swampy fire of Ghalia and Mama's Boys, right alongside KAT Blue and the True Believers. We've also locked in the powerhouse pairing of the Nick Moss Band Featuring Dennis Gruenling, Dave Weld and the Imperial Flames, and the brilliant Dave Thomas. Rounding off an absolute powerhouse of a show, we are clearing the runway for Freddie King, the gritty rock-blues of Mississippi Shakedown, Dixie Peach, and the beautifully expressive guitar of Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters, before finishing up with the mighty Tedeschi Trucks Band. It is a serious lineup from top to bottom.
Jamie McLean is a guitarist and bandleader. He blends New Orleans soul, Americana roots, Delta blues and New York City swagger into his music. He's played alongside Derek Trucks, Gregg Allman, Aaron Neville and Dr. John at major venues like Madison Square Garden and Japan's Fuji Rock. His Jamie McLean Band has shared the stage with the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Trombone Shorty, Los Lobos, Blues Traveler and others. We've got a massive show lined up for you this week. My partner in crime Paul Michael is back in the studio to present his legendary Blues Driver segment, and he is not alone. We've got a cameo from someone very special indeed, so you'll want to keep your ears pinned back for that one. Along with the guest spot, we've got all your regular favourite features locked in. The music is top tier from start to finish. We are kicking off with the heavyweights, bringing you tracks from Eric Clapton, Joe Bonamassa, and Buddy Guy, alongside the soulful brilliance of Mike Finnegan and Boz Scaggs. The groove stays tight with the Chris Corcoran band, Jump 66, and the legendary tone of Otis Grand. We are also diving into some classic territory with Traffic, before sliding into a fantastic run of modern masters. You will hear The Paul Michael Band doing their thing, the brilliant guitar work of Will Johns, and the deep pocket of Pat McDougall. We keep the energy climbing with Eugene Hideaway Bridges, the powerhouse Tedeschi Trucks Band, and a killer collaboration featuring the Stevie Watts Organ Trio with Alice Armstrong. Rounding out an absolute belter of an episode, we've got the gritty sounds of Mike Zito, the old-school cool of Golden ‘Big' Wheeler, and the beautiful acoustic touch of Dove and BoWeevil. It is a packed house, a special guest, and two hours of the finest music on the planet.
Oteil Burbridge and Lamar Williams Jr. represent two generations of Southern-rooted improvisational music coming together through groove, soul, and message-driven songwriting. Burbridge is widely known for his work with the Dead & Company, the Allman Brothers Band, Aquarium Rescue Unit, and Tedeschi Trucks Band, where his fluid bass playing and deep jazz-funk vocabulary made him one of the most respected improvisers in modern jam and fusion music. Williams Jr., son of former Allman Brothers bassist Lamar Williams, has emerged as a powerful vocalist carrying forward the emotional intensity and Southern soul tradition connected to the Allman legacy.Their 2026 collaborative album, The Offering, blends gospel harmonies, roots music, improvisational rock, and reflective songwriting into a warm and spiritually minded recording. Recorded in Iceland's Flóki Studios, the album favors feel and atmosphere over flashy virtuosity, though the musicianship throughout is excellent. Songs like “The Way We Rise” and “Love & War” balance uplifting lyrical themes with earthy grooves and melodic depth. The project feels less like a commercial crossover effort and more like two musicians searching for sincerity, community, and healing through music.Oteil Burbridge and Lamar Williams Jr.- The Offering

Susan Tedeschi may have been born and raised in Boston, but she's forged a deep and lasting connection to Southern culture. She grew up on blues, gospel, and soul music before eventually embarking on a career that brought all those influences together, making her one of the most exciting voices in modern rock and roll. She's also spent more than 25 years in Jacksonville, Florida, where she and her husband and musical partner, Derek Trucks, have raised a family and built something truly special together. As the Tedeschi Trucks Band, they've united Susan's talents as a singer, songwriter, and musician with Derek's supernatural abilities on slide guitar. Now, they have a new record out called Future Soul, one of their best to date. Sid and Susan talk about the album, the family dynamic that's kept their band together for 16 years, and a particularly fun gig they have on the horizon. On Saturday, May 2, Susan and Derek will perform the “Star Spangled Banner” at the 152nd running of the Kentucky Derby. The latest Blues is the Truth just dropped, and honestly? The energy in the room for this one was something else. We're taking you straight to the heart of the 2026 UK Blues Awards—no fluff, just the raw news from the night and the incredible music that defined it. When you see names like Alice Armstrong, Connor Selby, Will Wilde, and The Cinelli Brothers all in the mix, you realize just how much fire is in the scene right now. We've packed the episode with the winners and the heavy hitters like Mississippi Macdonald, Zac Schulze Gang, The Whiskey Flowers, and Jump 66, giving you a front-row seat to the best of the night. But we never forget the foundations. We're bridging the gap between the legends—Eric Clapton, Gary Moore, John Lee Hooker, and The Staples Singers—and the powerhouses pushing the genre forward like Joanne Shaw Taylor, Caitlin Krisko and the Broadcast, Albert Castiglia, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Mike Zito. The flow is relentless; with Catfish, Mud Morganfield, and The Robert Cray Band in the ears, the quality never dips. One track leads into the next until you're right in the thick of it. It's a proper snapshot of the blues as it stands today—plenty to enjoy and a few moments that will stay with you long after the final note.
Episode 19 of On The Record kicks off with one foot in the present and the other firmly planted on the long tail of rock history—touching on new Rolling Stones material before sliding into an excerpt from Brian Wise's recent interview with Mike Mattison of Tedeschi Trucks Band. It's a neat juxtaposition. From there, the episode turns toward what's ahead, with Wise preparing to head to Austin and New Orleans. What really comes through is a sense of curiosity about what the trip will feel like this time around. The new episode of Blues is the Truth is live, and Ian McHugh is not messing around this week. It kicks off with a fantastic, high-energy mix that hits the ground running. It is one of those shows that just flows, keeping you hooked from the first track to the last. Ian has done a great job balancing the legends with the modern scene. You have the deep-rooted classics from Pinetop Perkins and Mississippi Fred McDowell, B.B. King's effortless class, and that signature, laid-back vibe from Taj Mahal and the Phantom Blues Band. Then, he brings it right up to the present with fresh cuts from Mike Ross, Dani Wilde, When Rivers Meet, and Henrik Freischlader. The mood keeps shifting, too. You get that gritty, raw roots feel from Michael Messer, Marco Pandolfi with Richard Ray Farrell, and Corey Harris, which contrasts perfectly with the punchy, full-throttle sound of Tedeschi Trucks Band, Russ Green, and Errol Linton. There is also a really strong showing from closer to home, with tracks from Jump 66, Dan Sowerby, Mick Clarke, and The Weekend Blues Band holding their own in the mix. The lineup does not stop there, and it is absolutely packed. You will hear Mike Finnegan, Breakout Blues, CD Woodbury Trio, Grey DeLisle, Les Greene, Spencer Mackenzie, The Diving Ducks, and Peter Vekesta and Blues Train. Honestly, just when you think you have settled into a groove, the track changes and picks things right back up again. It is a great listen, so give it a spin.

MUSICRoger Daltrey of The Who is now SIR Roger Daltrey. He was knighted by Prince William at Windsor Castle on Wednesday. It's in recognition of not only his musical achievements, but also his charity work. Here he is on the award, and what his younger self and band would've thought back in the day. https://consequence.net/2025/12/sir-roger-daltrey-knighted/ Sharon Osbourne has given her first interview since the death of her husband Ozzy this past July.Appearing Wednesday on the British TV show Piers Morgan Uncensored, hosted by her longtime friend, she opened up about his health struggles, doing his final show this past July 5th in Birmingham, England, their last conversations and much more. You can watch the show on YouTube, and here are a few excerpts:Sharon Osbourne on the last two weeks of Ozzy's life. OC:...in seven years. :27 [Courtesy of Piers Morgan Uncensored]"He was so happy Piers afterwards. And he kept looking at the papers and he goes to me, 'I never knew so many people like me.' But that was the way he was. I mean, he knew he was famous, but not to the amount that people loved him. It's a whole different thing. And he was just so happy. Happier than we'd seen him in seven years."Sharon Osbourne on dreams Ozzy was having the last week of his life. OC:...he was ready. :26 [Courtesy of Piers Morgan Uncensored]"He was having dreams the last week of his life. He was seeing people that he never knew. I said, 'Well, what kind of people?' He goes, 'All different people. And I just keep walking and walking and I'm seeing all these different people every night. And I go back there and I'm looking at these people and they're looking at me and nobody's talking.' And he he knew. He was ready." Sharon also talked about the first time she and Ozzy met, when they fell in love, how she will never want to get married again, how if she didn't have kids she would have killed herself when he died, and the thing she misses most is holding his hand.On a lighter note, she also talked about how she wanted to get back at Roger Waters for the negative things he said about Ozzy after he died. And that was by sending him a Tiffany box filled with feces, which she used to do to critics who wrote negative reviews about Ozzy's shows without being there. When she did, it was her infant son Jack's poop that would be used. She ultimately decided against it, saying, “Even that is a waste, to send [crap] to him. It's a waste because he's really insignificant. But I just thought, anybody that passes has a family… you don't do that.” (Sharon's not the first musician's wife to do that. Paul and Linda McCartney sent some of their daughter Stella's poop to a journalist who earned their trust, then betrayed them.)Going forward, Sharon says she's continuing to work on an Ozzy bio-pic and that she knows who she wants to play him. When asked if it was Yunglbud she didn't confirm nor deny.https://youtu.be/aaLMsEJKZEQ Kurt Cobain's MTV Unplugged Martin D-18E has been donated to the Royal College of Music London by Peter Freedman, who paid $6,010,000 for it at an auction in 2020. But there are plenty of other films that spark the same argument, "Is this actually a Christmas movie?" Here are 13 more:1. Every "Harry Potter" movie (2001 - 2011). All the "Potter" flicks . . . with the possible exception of the last one . . . have some kind of yuletide vibe . . . or at least a wintry one.2. "Batman Returns" (1992). One of the big set pieces is the lighting of the Gotham Christmas tree.3. "Eyes Wide Shut" (1999). Even though it was released in July, it takes place over Christmas.4. "Gremlins" (1984). This one has Christmas written all over it. And also little green, murderous demons.5. "First Blood" (1982). The first of the "Rambo" films has a Christmas tree in the background of one scene. So . . . Christmas movie!!!6. "Trading Places" (1983). There's a Christmas party, and Dan Aykroyd as a drunken Santa waving a handgun. But it doesn't end on December 25th. If it's a Christmas movie, then it also qualifies as a New Year's movie.7. "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" (2005). This one takes place during the Christmas season in L.A. And it was released in November.8. "Edward Scissorhands" (1990). Kind of a no-brainer.9. "Lethal Weapon" (1987). Another one of those action movies that HAPPENS to take place around Christmas.10. "Rocky" (1976). This might be the greatest American holiday film of all time, because it includes Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. And also punching.11. "Hook" (1991). The scenes in the real world, outside Neverland, are set at Christmas. 12. "Iron Man 3" (2013). The whole movie plays out around Christmas.13. "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (1993). Is it a Christmas movie or a Halloween movie? Why not both?AND THAT IS YOUR CRAP ON CELEBRITIES!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Derek Trucks - Exclusive Interview It's not every day you get to sit down with one of your all-time favourite guitarists. Derek Trucks — slide innovator, bandleader, and co-captain (with Susan Tedeschi) of the mighty Tedeschi Trucks Band — joined me to talk about the long-awaited release of Mad Dogs & Englishmen Revisited (Live at LOCKN'), the legacy of Joe Cocker and Leon Russell, the telepathy of sharing a band with your spouse, Indian classical music as a nightly compass, and the quietly radical idea of being a joyful, human big band in turbulent times. The conversation traces how a one-off 2015 tribute bloomed into a definitive live album, why “Space Captain” helped launch TTB itself, what happened when a rehearsal room turned electric with 20 original Mad Dogs, and why Derek's red SG keeps calling him home. Along the way we touch on grief, gratitude, and the kind of communal music-making that makes ushers stop in their tracks at soundcheck.Thank you for all your supportPhil AstonNow Spinning Magazine
