He is like a big brother to me, and I have learned so much from him. We are joined by my pal, Mark Mundy. We talk about all things steel guitar. Bill also reflects on his early interest in the instrument and the influence of his father, Howard Cunningham, a renowned musician in Georgia. We discuss and talk about the history and growth of the Georgia Mountain Fair, the influence of the fairgrounds on musicians, connections and collaborations between musicians, opportunities for young musicians to get their start, and Bill's musical journey. We discuss some memorable gigs we have played together, including performances with Dennis Brown, Brad Thompson, and Kenny Smith. Here's a great story to get you started on the episode with Bruce Forman, recounting his early influences and how he found his life's path at the early age of 17 years old.From Bruce FormanMy first jazz guitar player that I really remember loving was Kenny Burrell. Just the bluesy-ness and the elegance and the eloquence of his playing, it was just such a beautiful counterpoint musically, sound wise and feel wise to everything, even though I was much more interested in playing a lot more than he liked to play, a la Charlie Parker. That was my first one, and then Wes just blew my mind, and then Barney Kessel just creamed me, and then, of course, 1972 or 3 was the year Virtuoso Joe Pass came out. And that changed the world for us guitar players. That just changed the world. By then, I guess I was pretty well printed. I was probably about 17 at that time. My first Monterey Jazz Festival I went to in 1973. Joe Pass was there, Roy Eldridge was there, Dizzy Gillespie was there. It was amazing. It was just a mind blowing experience.

Jazz guitarist Dan Wilson. He spent the majority of his youth within the church community, where his musical path began and something he has never left behind. Traces of his major guitar influences – including Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, Joe Pass, and George Benson to name a few – can be discerned through his playing, but his musical identity has been shaped by everything from gospel and blues to traditional jazz, hip-hop and horn players like Sonny Rollins and Joe Henderson. Dan's career took him on an exploratory journey into foundations laid down by the guitar/organ tradition, eventually leading to an invitation to perform with jazz great Joey DeFranchesco's trio quartet, with which Dan Wilson went on to earn a GRAMMY Award nomination with and for DeFranchesco's Project Freedom album. Guitarist, composer, and recording artist David Pedrick has earned accolades from critics and audiences alike for his work in recording and performance.
