Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to Episode 34! Despite what our intro says, we are actually releasing this as 34. I should have cut all that episode 33 stuff out except I found it hilarious on a meta level for myself, hence why it's still there. We decided to shift some recordings around and that's why this ended up where it did. Turns out that it's not the only flub I made but it all hangs together and it's still a very fun episode. Also, even though we recorded some segments out of our normal order, I decided to leave it that way on purpose. Let me know if you like having the Why Did I Play That before the Topic of the Week or if we should change it back. Regardless! This is another great episode for you and it's just the guys this week without any special guests. We talk components, Ex Libris, a variety of excellent games, and just have a weird and wild time with this. We say it a couple times but by the time this recording ended it was about 4am and was the like sixth thing we recorded that evening. I love weird episodes. Let us know if you do too - boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com! Thanks for sticking with us on this, next episode is another Top Ten and this one features the infamous Jen!  --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro 00:01:04 - What's Been on the Table 00:07:22 - Why Did I Play That: Ex Libris Revised Edition 00:17:59 - Grand Gamers Guild Sponsor   00:19:15 - Topic of the Week: The Component Rundown 00:42:50 - Table / Shelf / Trade 01:00:50 - Rotating Segment: Surprise Party 01:07:18 - Secret Door Sponsor   01:08:09 - Meeple Source Sponsor 01:09:12 - Victory Roll Sponsor 01:10:02 - Contact Info for BATT and Theater Geeks  01:11:14 - Outro ---   Notes! 1) We recorded our topic of the week before we knew about the Iron Coins from the new Brass Pittsburgh campaign. Those coins are amazing but cost on them reflects that too.  2) There are sometimes I leave stuff in the edit just for me. This is one of those episodes.  3) BuyMeToys is an excellent comics retailer around us and we love them dearly. You can check them out at https://buymetoys.com 4) At the time of this recording we had not played Pittsburgh yet, nor did we have the prototype in hand or even know that we were going to be part of that incredibly succesful campaign, so Lancashire really was a big deal for all of us. When we got invited into the Pittsburgh stuff, it was just an incredible experience. This'll also likely be the last time we get this Brass-y in an episode since we were deep in the throes of playing them all for so long.   5) While the Kickstarter page for Stonespine Architects: Invasion isn't up yet, the pre-launch page on their website is: https://thunderworksgames.com/products/stonespine-architects-invasion-expansion --- We'd like to thank our sponsors as well: Grand Gamers Guild! https://grandgamersguild.com. Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to Episode 33 and this one is a super special episode for us. See around Mark's birthday in March each year is MacWagCon and we just play games starting at 7p on Friday and go absurdly late for the next couple days. When we finally wrap up late on Sunday, we're all exhausted. This year's con was the biggest yet and we had some incredible guests join in - including our guest on this particular episode! We had a really great time speaking with Marc Specter from our channel sponsor Grand Gamers Guild. We had a winding conversation discussing what it's like to be a small publisher, licensing and localizing games, editing rulebooks, and fighting off a collector's mentality with him. Jason had a turn at Why Did I Play That this week and somehow caught himself in the blast too. And then we got to talking about a lot of different games in Table Shelf and Trade. It's a longer one this week, we played a lot of games that weekend, but I do think it's a really enjoyable episode regardless. Once you've listened to it, hit us up at boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com and let us know what you think or if there is anything else you'd like to know from Marc! --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro 00:02:54 - What's Been on the Table 00:09:07 - Topic of the Week: Grand Gamers Guild and Being a Small Publisher 00:27:33 - Grand Gamers Guild Sponsor 00:28:36 - Why Did I Play That: Quartz the Dice Game 00:42:39 - Table / Shelf / Trade 01:17:43 - Secret Door Sponsor   01:18:34 - Meeple Source Sponsor 01:19:37 - Victory Roll Sponsor 01:20:27 - Contact Info for BATT and Theater Geeks 01:21:39 - Outro ---   Notes! 1) We said it in the episode - but to reiterate, this was deep into a convention weekend and all the hosts were exhausted. Our voices were shot and Scott's was suffering even more than the rest. I've tried to minimize the excess noise from coughs and such, but thanks for the patience with that. Additionally my five year old was constantly running around and jumping above us - I've tried my best to reduce that noise as much as possible as well but I know there are moments it's just in there.   2) I've said this on previous episodes with industry guests, but I ended up cutting large pieces of very interesting conversation out to try and reach a relatively okay episode length. For instance, during Marc's segment on What's Been on the Table, we tangented off into about ten minutes on big boxes and storage solutions. It's good stuff, but didn't make sense to keep in that segment, hence why my piece of that segment seems to come out of nowhere. That content will show up in an odds and ends at some point.  3) Similar to the prior note, the rotating segment was cut for length. It'll show up in a future odds and ends.   4) Since the time of recording, Jason has played Off With Their Heads and enjoyed it. It'll likely get talked again in the future because that game really is great.  --- We'd like to thank our sponsors as well: Grand Gamers Guild! https://grandgamersguild.com. Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to a little piece of bonus content where we got to sit down and record a conversation with the owners of Victory Roll Café. We had the best of intentions for this to be a formal, sit-down interview but it devolved into us just having too much fun. Add in that they were taking time out of their Holiday Party which had the store completely wall to wall packed and I'm amazed we got the fifteen minutes we did out of all of them. Seriously they're great people and it's a wonderful space that the BATT crew regularly haunts. We'll probably try again and have a full, "professional" interview again with them but know that this definitely won't be the last time that you hear these voices on the podcast. Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to all the new folks that have come into the fold from the Brass content! We're stoked to have you with us.  This episode is one where clearly the crew was having too much fun taking shots at each other. This time around we decided to break down those ambiguous terms of luck, tactics, and strategy to try and have a defined conversation; Scott nailed us with yet another word game (and had us using the phrase Banana Balls multiple times), and then we get into a surprisingly contentious Table Shelf or Trade segment that finishes out with us just feeling old because 2021 shouldn't be five years ago. Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to this standalone interview we were lucky enough to have with Tenpenny Parks designer, Nate Linhart. We recorded this right around the time of the Kickstarter campaign going live for the brand new expansions, Winter Lights and Spooky Nights and Innovation and somehow missed releasing it in time for that. So in support of their pledge manager, which is closing next week on March 31, we're finally getting this out to you. Hey hey BATT Family! Welcome to this preview for Brass: Pittsburgh in support of their Gamefound campaign! The new standalone version, and the first one in eight years, of Brass from Roxley Games. This new game is going to feel both familiar to players of Birmingham as well as radically different for all the changes it makes. In this particular episode we're actually comparing all three versions of Brass side by side largely looking at how the gameplay systems are executed on. We've intentionally kept a rules teach out of our Pittsburgh content right now since the rule set (as of this recording) isn't finalized and changes could be forthcoming. Hey hey BATT Family! Episode 31 is here for your auditory enjoyment. This one is another episode that we had way too much fun recording.  We are lucky enough to be joined by D. Brad Talton, President and Owner of Level 99 Games, on the show this time around. What you are hearing is a much smaller subset of the conversations that we had with him because we got pretty deep into the inside baseball of the industry and how things get done. While it was fascinating for us, we thought it might be less so for the general audience, but what remained is still a really fun, compelling conversation I think. In addition to having Brad on, we also had the infamous Jen join us for the first time someone else hit us with a Why Did We Play That. It's a wild episode and, unsurprisingly, it was another bear to edit through but I'm very proud of what we have here. It's also the biggest single episode I've had to edit - the raw file was almost four hours long because we just kept talking and having a good time. So apologies for this one running longer than normal, but it's already pretty solidly condensed from multiple editing passes. The next thing you'll hear from us is our next live episode, recorded in front of an audience at PopiCon 2026! Let us know what you think of this episode when you're done with it, go check out some of L99's sick looking Gamefound campaigns, and we'll catch you on the next one! --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro 00:03:30 - What's Been on the Table 00:11:52 - Topic of the Week: Level 99 Games 00:29:10 - Grand Gamers Guild Sponsor 00:30:40 - Why Did I Play That: Le Plateau 00:45:10 - Table / Shelf / Trade 01:15:49 - Rotating Segment: Visions of the Future 01:23:06 - Secret Door Sponsor   01:23:58 - Meeple Source Sponsor 01:25:01 - Victory Roll Sponsor 01:25:51 - Contact Info for BATT and Theater Geeks 01:27:03 - Level 99 Upcoming Games / Outro ---   Notes! 1) Just listening back to this episode, it was a sheer joy to do so. I hope you have as much fun listening to it as it was both the first and second (and third and fourth and etc...) times for me.  2) So if you've seen Mark's Top 100 you know that Bullet ended up at number 4 on the list, not number 3. The joy of jostling numbers right before the end of the year. But I mean, really, it's a top five game and it's incredible regardless.  3) Sorry for the kind of awkward end to Scott's TST for 7 Wonders Dice - that's just how it ended on the recording. None of the rest of us had played it and didn't have much else to say.  4) I have since played Toy Battle and really, really enjoy it. I expect to also be talking about it during an upcoming episode because of just how utterly replayable it is. 5) Mark backed Decko after talking with Brad. This topic was brought by the guest of the show, Derian, who has been a good friend of ours for years and runs all of the demo tables at Gen Con. If you've ever seen the dude wearing a bright orange shirt, a mohawk, and a utilikilt - that's our boy. We cover some really great games here and even had a couple (big ones) that were forgotten off of some of the lists. Give it a go, let us know what you think and we'll see you in two weeks with Episode 31 where we have the president of Level 99 Games on with us! --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro / How We Know Each Other 00:02:18 - History / List Selection Criteria 00:07:23 - Scott's 10 (Broom Service) 00:10:13 - Derian's 10 (Broom Service) 00:12:15 - Mark's 10 (Smartphone, Inc.) 00:14:40 - Scott's 9 (Apples to Apples) 00:15:45 - Derian's 9 (Quacks of Quedlinberg) 00:18:00 - Mark's 9 (Raptor) 00:20:15 - Scott's 8 (7 Wonders) 00:23:46 - Derian's 8 (Niagara) 00:26:02 - Mark's 8 (Hadara) 00:28:32 - Scott's 7 (Get Bit) 00:31:36 - Derian's 7 (7 Wonders) 00:32:14 - Mark's 7 (Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition) 00:35:19 - Scott's 6 (Bezzerwizzer) 00:37:00 - Derian's 6 (Roll for the Galaxy) 00:38:44 - Mark's 6 (Faraway) 00:40:17 - Grand Gamer's Guild Sponsor 00:41:33 - Scott's 5 (Gloomhaven / Frosthaven) 00:43:16 - Derian's 5 (Between Two Cities) 00:45:10 - Mark's 5 (Antidote) 00:47:32 - Scott's 4 (Planet Unknown) 00:48:50 - Derian's 4 (On Tour) 00:50:36 - Mark's 4 (Incan Gold) 00:51:42 - Scott's 3 (Antidote) 00:52:24 - Derian's 3 (Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest) 00:53:30 - Mark's 3 (Tidal Blades: Banner Festival) 00:55:05 - Scott's 2 (On Tour) 00:56:46 - Derian's 2 (Orleans) 01:01:04 - Mark's 2 (El Grande) 01:04:02 - Scott's 1 (Bullet) 01:06:37 - Derian's 1 (Race for the Galaxy) 01:10:27 - Mark's 1 (Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest) 01:15:29 - Secret Door Sponsor   01:16:20 - Meeple Source Sponsor 01:17:23 - Victory Roll Sponsor 01:18:14 - Contact Info for BATT and Theater Geeks 01:19:25 - Outro --- Notes! 1) Scott's lead in on his number 10 is something that was referrenced in the Honorable Mentions! That'll be out with an Odds and Ends episode eventually. 2) In regards to El Grande, because the way Derian jumped in I didn't really fully explain why I picked it. The simultaneous selection is admittedly not that high here (really only during the scoring phases) but I find it to be so radically important to the game that it had to be that high. Realistically I should have had this probably a bit lower on the list, and it definitely would have been bounced lower as Bullet should have been my number 2, but I still like the game quite a bit and think it deserves to be here.  3) One other thing I found interesting listening to this episode back to back with our recent Top of 2025 lists is how consistent some of these opinions are. We played an enormous amount of games in the five months between these three recordings and we still managed to feel the way we did in both periods. Apologies for these being so close together though, the intent is that we'd actually start 2026 with Episode 31 but my schedule just got delayed significantly over the past few weeks and the edits just fell behind. So that's why they've lined up the way they have.    4) Libby scored 52 points as recorded, not 56. But I looked over the photo and found that she accidentally cheated and connected a 74 to a 73 in the South. Whoops. 50 points is still insane though. Hey hey BATT Family! Heck Yeah Episode 29! Scott and I had a great time recording this one, but it was a bummer Jason couldn't join us since he was sick on the night of recording. We decided to bring back the Mechanics Shop and discuss one of our favourite mechanisms: Tile Laying! We also got to have a long conversation about one of Mark's favourite games for Why Did It Take So Long to Play That. And finally we wrap this one up with a TST that goes kind of out of order because Scott accidentally brought a game to review he'd already done so with.
