The Browns were quiet for most of the NFL's opening day of Free Agency until they made a deal for a quarterback none of us expected in Kenny Pickett, and then signed an answer at the tackle position late in the evening. In this podcast, Jake starts with a brief recap of who signed across the league as the NFL spent a significant amount of money on non-elite talent. Then you get some insights on the Browns decisions including the post-June1 release of Dalvin Tomlinson and James Hudson landing quickly in New York with the Giants. At the end of the show's break we go position-by-position with who Jake would be interested in on Day 2 for the Browns roster structure. (As mentioned previously, we are going to start putting some podcast content specifically for BFB supporters on Substack and Premium Feeds. In the second half of the episode Jake and Andrew examine the 2025 free agent class and who could be brought in to help shore up the tackle position. "There's always a choice. You're the one who taught me that." After giving us a glimpse of Wolverine's past in "Red Dawn," the stage was set for a full-length exploration in our very next episode. And with that, season two continues its globe-trotting, introspective character-driven features with a solo outing centered on the enigmatic Canadian X-Man. Notably, the extended flashback at the center of "Repo Man" pulls directly from Barry Windsor-Smith's 1991 Marvel Comics Presents serial, "Weapon X." Violent and atmospheric, this adaptation can't help but suffer in comparison due to the necessity of reigning in the comic's harsher elements for Saturday morning consumption. Beyond that, "Weapon X" had a tenuous relationship with the canon from its inception, with the story calling its own authenticity into question at various points. Nevertheless, "Weapon X" was so well-received that it stood for years as the most definitive account of Wolverine's origin. Later revelations and retcons would muddy the waters, but at this point, the animated series is guided by a very solid pedigree. The inclusion of Alpha Flight, while appreciated from a world-building standpoint, doesn't do this episode many favors in terms of clarity. Outside of shedding some light on Wolverine's past, the plot is concerned with linking two seemingly disparate milestones in Logan's history: how his skeleton came to be laced with adamantium, and his involvement with Alpha Flight. The shadowy, unscrupulous, ultra-militaristic Department H serves as the connective tissue, leading to an ultimately unsatisfying conclusion. If Department H was behind or had knowledge of the Weapon X Project, as the episode suggests, then Logan escaped their clutches by the skin of his teeth, only to soon thereafter coincidentally meet James Hudson, who happens to be the leader of Canada's premiere superhero team, and is brought in to join Alpha Flight, under the purview of... Department H. It begs the question as to how Wolverine was allowed to leave the team in the first place. (To say nothing for the fact that he was given the codename of the project that "created" him, a detail which makes little sense as either another absurd coincidence or as an inside joke by Department H... for the audience's benefit only.) Department H's connection to Weapon X seems like it should come as a major revelation, at least to Logan, but the script doesn't attribute any particular significance to this. Still, it's hard to fault the show for filling in logic gaps that the comics themselves had yet to address, given the time and resources allotted. Wolverine's mysterious past represents a corner of X-Men lore that somehow always manages to be more interesting in theory than in execution. Every resolution offered comes with its own set of brand new questions, and in that sense, "Repo Man" can be considered faithful to the spirit of Wolverine's role throughout the '90s. As a cohesive story, it is ultimately unsatisfying, but almost manages to stick the landing by way of momentum and novelty. It remains to be seen how sustainable that approach will be going forward. X-TRA: This episode was written by Wolverine co-creator Len Wein, his first of four such credits over the course of the series. It's a curious fit, given that Wein chronicled only Wolverine's earliest appearances when the character was effectively a blank slate. He therefore has the unenviable task of cobbling together pieces of a mythology which he had no hand in establishing. It's an admirable effort, and a credit to the production for reaching outside their usual pool of television writers.

Ahh, it's nice to be back to a regular episode again. We have an esoteric topic of the week, talk about all the games that we played recently, take a nostalgic dive back into some games that you may not have thought of in some time, and just gush over an area control game that Scott actually really likes. --- This episode's segments: 00:00:00 - Intro 00:02:51 - What's Been on the Table 00:08:01 - Topic of the Week: What Is Your Obligation as the Host? 00:21:43 - Why Did I Play That: Wonderland's War 00:33:58 - Table / Shelf / Trade 00:48:13 - Rotating: The Archives 01:00:01 - Contact Info / Sponsors 01:01:07 - Outro --- Notes! 1) Due to guest availability, we actually recorded this one before we did Episode 9 with James Hudson. We didn't know that we'd have this much Druid City so close together, but seriously Wonderland's War is exceptionally good. 2) Masque of the Red Death's track through Mark's Top 100 is pretty wild: 2019: #010 | 2020: #011 | 2021: #034 | 2022: #087 | 2023: #087 It will most likely stay in the high 80s range until it (if ever) falls out at this point. 3) The third Doctor Lucky game was The Island of Doctor Lucky in 2018. 4) It's been mentioned a bunch of times, but the most recent Top 100 Mark did can be found at: https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/328088/top-100-games-2023-edition?itemid=10344720 You can expect the new one to be up at the start of January 2025 after we release our Top Ten for 2025. 5) Do you like all the weird little things after the outro sting now? Welcome to the off week odds and ends episode! A variety of topics are being put out today, mostly extra conversation from Episode 9 with James Hudson. In addition to those topics, we've add in our conversation post-GenCon about Madcala and I really hope you enjoy that as much as we did. Finally there will be a small little nugget about Coma Ward - a game that Mark very much wants to get a second edition chance to iron out. This week's episode is one that Mark and Scott had an absolute blast recording and are still pumped that it happened. We have the inimitable James Hudson from Druid City Games on with this today and we got to talk a wide array of things with him. In addition to discussing gaming from an industry perspective, he also gave us a number of heads up on things from Wonderland's War, Tidal Blades, and even the future of Bloodstone! Check it out and let us know your thoughts! Meanwhile, check out next week's off-week episode featuring all the extra conversation including the future of Sorcerer City! At least for Mark, a Shelf is 8+, Table is 5-7, though a 5 isn't that exciting of a table, and a Trade is 4-. **When Scott said Telescope in his review of The Search for Planet X, he meant Observatory. **When talking about Stamp Swap, Mark didn't have any foreknowledge of the game's existence. He was simply expecting an I Cut, You Choose game from the company for a very long time. You can email us at boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com. The month of November 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the assassination of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy in Dallas, Texas. To learn more, we welcome two UNCP faculty members for a conversation about the political climate of the time, and implications for the decades to follow. We discuss how these themes are taught in classrooms today, and what relevance and lessons the assassination and subsequent killing of Lee Harvey Oswald have for society. Drs. Marineau and Hudson, who met as students at the University of Texas at Austin, both came to UNC Pembroke and reconnected as faculty, sharing interest in twentieth century history and politics. Dr. Josiah Marineau is an Associate Professor of Political Science at UNCP and faculty advisor and coach for the Model United Nations program. He specializes in Comparative Politics and International Relations with a focus on the South Caucasus as well as central and eastern Africa. John Kosko of PFF joins the show to break down the grades for the Cleveland Browns after their dismantling of the Arizona Cardinals. Deshaun Watson once again scored well in his second straight full start for Cleveland showing his best ball in his time with the Browns. The defense graded out through the roof matching the effort that lead to Arizona only garnering 58 yards of total of offense. Jed Wills is going to miss time and the Browns are going to need James Hudson to take a huge step up from what we've seen thus far. #Dawgpound #Browns BetterHelp This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. When at its very best, hosting is an endeavour underpinned and driven by one core thing - empathy. And that's something my guest today, James Hudson, had in droves when it came to establishing his hugely successful Byron Bay eco retreat Blackbird. After many years working in Sydney's fast-paced and often gruelling hospitality sector and with a young family in tow, James reached a point where he decided it was time to embrace a slower, less hectic way of life. This ultimately led him to a former banana plantation in the Byron Bay hinterland, a property he'd go on to buy and - with an eye for innovation and sustainable re-use closely informed by his skills in industrial design - resourcefully convert into the critically acclaimed retreat now known as Blackbird Byron. Since the property officially opened its doors to guests in 2018, James and his extended team have gone on to receive an enviable array of accolades and awards including a Master Builder's Award in 2020, finalist status in Network Ten's 'Hotels by Design' series and being named one of Tatler Magazine's top 101 hotels in the world. With Covid only proving to increase demand for stays at Blackbird, James has gone from strength to strength and is now supported by a tight-knit and dedicated team of staff he views as family. Please enjoy our chat today.
The Cleveland Browns will be off to begin training camp on July 22nd so we start our preview series of each positional group. We focus today on the tight end position on this episode,David Njoku is under valued in league circles but his growth as a player can't be ignored. His blocking has become plus and his production based over a full season basis show he may be top five.Jordan Akins and Harrison Bryant both can bring value as receivers but need to show enough blocking ability to get those reps. More importantly so for Bryant who enters his first free agency cycle. If the Browns need they can use James Hudson again as a short yardage tight end and even perhaps rookie Dawand Jones. The future of the room is cloudy and Andrew Berry will have his eyes on possible tight end practice squad players, who could stick long term.David Njoku will have his best season in 2023 as the Browns will open their passing game.#Dawgpound #BrownsLinkedInLinkedIn Jobs helps you find the qualified candidates you want to talk to, faster. NFL Week 8 Game Recap: Cleveland Browns 32, Cincinnati Bengals 13Coming off four straight losses, the Cleveland Browns were able to finally pick up a victory, dominating the division-rival Cincinnati Bengals in a 32-13 blowout victory at FirstEnergy Stadium Monday night. The win moved the Browns 3-5 on the season while the Bengals fell to 4-3, as both teams trail the 5-3 Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North. Offensive spotlight: Browns QB Jacoby Brissett put together a winning performance Monday night, finishing 17-of-22 for 278 passing yards and a touchdown. Brissett's 12.6 yards per attempt and 94.7% adjusted completion rate on first review were both impressive marks.Browns RB Nick Chubb and WR Amari Cooper also played a huge part in the team's victory. Chubb continued to show why he's probably the best pure runner in the NFL, finishing with 101 rushing yards and two touchdowns from 23 carries. The Georgia product also picked up five first downs and forced four missed tackles. Cooper totaled five receptions from seven targets for 131 receiving yards and a touchdown en route to a game-high (min. five receiving snaps) 5.24 yards per route run on first review.Turn on any Browns game and edge defender Myles Garrett is probably the best player on the field — and that proved to be true against Monday night. The Texas A&M dominated as a pass-rushing, posting eight pressures, two sacks and a 32.3% pass-rush win rate. If it weren't for Dallas Cowboys star defender Micah Parsons and San Francisco 49ers edge defender Nick Bosa, Garrett would be the runaway favorite for the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year award. Bengals rookie left guard Cordell Volson‘s pass-blocking was a bright spot during an otherwise dreadful evening for the Bengals offense, as the fourth-round pick allowed just two pressures across 40 pass-blocking snaps on first review. The Browns offensive line stifled the Bengals' pass-rush all evening, allowing just two pressures across 26 snaps in pass protection on first review. Cincinnati's interior trio —left guard Joel Bitonio, center Ethan Pocic and right guard Hjalte Froholdt — were notably impressive in pass protection, allowing zero total pressures combined.Led by Myles Garrett (1.5 sacks) and Sione Takitaki (13 tackles, one sack), the Browns defense shouldered the load early while their offense warmed up. The unit didn't let up once Cleveland's offense got going, as the Browns limited Cincinnati to just one trip inside the red zone while holding Burrow and Co. to just 15 first downs and 4 of 10 on third down. The Browns offensive line, despite suffering an in-game injury to Jack Conklin, dominated the Bengals defensive front. The unit -- which received a solid effort from Conklin's replacement, second-year man James Hudson -- paved the way for Chubb, Hunt and the rest of the Browns to run for 172 yards and three touchdowns on 44 carries. The line also gave Brissett time to complete several clutch passes that extended scoring drives. The Browns head into their Week 9 bye. Cleveland's players may spend some of their bye week packing their suitcases, as four of the Browns' first five games after their bye will be on the road. The road trip starts with games against AFC East foes Miami and Buffalo before wrapping up with these Bengals in Week 14. Cincinnati will host Carolina on a short week before going on its bye week. Like Cleveland, the Bengals will have consecutive road games following their bye week. They'll face the Steelers on "Sunday Night Football" in Week 11 before heading to Nashville for a rematch of last year's divisional round thriller. Learn more about your ad choices. I discuss the relationship between content creators and consumers. Very often, as creators, we try to bridge that gap with more transparency and more clarity with the terms we use. That's great, but we need another piece - how to build trust with board game consumers. Host Jeff Lloyd is joined by PFF's John Kosko to put the Browns player grades under the lens and to start talking on the position rooms that need help this off-season. James Hudson, Jacob Phillips, and MJ Stewart all were guys who closed the season strong. The Browns need upgrades at the DT position and the edge room needs to remain deep. Competition for Baker Mayfield will be brought in, some way somehow. Also the Wide Receiver room needs an absolute overhaul. Playoff thoughts as well. #Browns #NickChubb #WyattTeller #JoelBitonio #MylesGarrett #JOK #DenzelWardBuilt BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar.
