ActionSA sal 'n Versoek vir Voorleggings uitreik nadat toegang in Februarie toegestaan is. Herman Mashaba, President of ActionSA, joins John Maytham to discuss the party’s controversial role in helping advance South Africa’s 2025 budget process. This comes after ActionSA’s Alan Beesley introduced a recommendation backed by the ANC and IFP to find alternative revenue sources within 30 days, effectively side-lining the proposed VAT hike. While ActionSA claims it spared South Africans a cost of living blow, critics like the DA accuse it of enabling unchecked ANC spending. Mashaba unpacks the reasoning behind the move, clarifies the party’s stance on the GNU, and explains why he believes ActionSA acted in the public’s best interest.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
ActionSA will reconsider its decision to enter into the government of national unity (GNU) should the DA leave government, the party said while warning the ANC there will be consequences if it reneges on its agreement to reverse the VAT increase. ActionSA's parliamentary leaders held a media briefing on Thursday after the National Assembly sitting on Wednesday which saw the budget passed with the help of the Herman Mashaba-led party.
In this episode Mogale is joined by ActionSA President Herman Mashaba to reflect on SONA, the Lily mine commemoration and developments in the City of Tshwane.President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered his first State of the Nation Address under the GNU last week. He presented to the parliament and the people of South Africa the plan for the 7th administration which includes growing the economy and creating jobs .However, the real test is on delivering on those commitments.
A race war of words has been raging for days over US President Donald Trump's refugee offer to Afrikaners. ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has also been drawn into that. In this interview with BizNews, he says: “what I think I find strange is that these people who are criticizing me, insulting me actually of racism, are people who are happy when I criticize ANC corruption.” As for Trump, Mashaba says: “I think it is actually quite scary the manner and the rate at which Trump is actually taking his decisions.” Mashaba blames President Cyril Ramaphosa for not engaging, “particularly AfriForum and some of the political parties in his so-called GNU, because these are the people who went out and fed this information to Trump's advisors”. As for the role being played by Elon Musk, he says: “…this has never really happened in the history of United States where someone from outside can actually, actually looks like it's more powerful than the president himself”. Meanwhile, following some by-election defeats for former President Jacob Zuma's MKP, Mashaba holds up KZN province “a good model for democracy because it says to all of us in all the provinces that let's not be married to political parties. Let us be married to what political parties stand for. We vote them in on the basis of what they promise and they fail, next time you punish them.”
President Cyril Ramaphosa's State of the Nation Address has received mixed reaction with opposition parties like the EFF, ActionSA, and MK expressing disappointment over the lack of concrete solutions to South Africa's pressing issues. In contrast, the Democratic Alliance, a key partner in the Government of National Unity, welcomed the President's address, but emphasized the need for swift implementation of his proposed plans to drive meaningful change in the country. For reaction to the President's address, Elvis Presslin spoke to ActionSA Leader, Herman Mashaba, Professor Jannie Rossouw, Professor at the Wits Business School and Political Analyst, Professor Tumi Senokoane
ActionSA has expressed concern over what it refers to as reckless remarks made by US President, Donald Trump in response to South Africa's Expropriation Bill into law. The party was reacting to news that Trump and his administration will be cutting off all future funding to South Africa, after accusing Pretoria of confiscating land and discriminating against certain citizens. ActionSA has refuted the Trump's claims as baseless and unfounded, adding that it must be incumbent upon Trump to receive more balanced counsel on matters pertaining to South Africa. For more on this, Elvis Presslin spoke to ActionSA President, Herman Mashaba
ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has called for an investigation into lobby group AfriForum for “pursuing treason” after it said it would approach the US to target South African politicians on the land issue.
ActionSA has made the first move to unite the opposition ahead of municipal elections next year. Herman Mashaba's ActionSA party has merged with The Forum 4 Service Delivery, and he has confirmed that it is also in informal talks with BOSA and Rize Mzansi. “…and we've agreed to let us conclude this one first and then we can then start formal discussions with them.” Mashaba says ActionSA has identified “massive opportunities throughout the country, more especially at local government level; a lot of community-based organisations register as political parties. They're sitting with five, 10 councillors and so forth. So, I'm busy negotiating to get as many as possible to do the same kind of an arrangement that we did with The Forum 4 Service Delivery.” The first merger has gained ActionSA 38 councillors in 14 municipalities in five provinces overnight. Mashaba also gives an update on the strides made with service delivery under the new ActionSA Mayor in Tshwane.
ActionSA and Forum 4 Service Delivery have joined forces, with plans to contest the 2026 local government elections together under the ActionSA banner. This merger is significant, as Forum 4 Service Delivery brings 38 municipal seats across five provinces to the table. As part of this union, Dr. Mbahare Kekana, the leader of Forum 4 Service Delivery, will take on the role of Deputy President at ActionSA. Elvis Presslin spoke to Action SA President, Herman Mashaba, to discuss the implications of this merger and what it means for the 2026 local government elections
ActionSA's President Herman Mashaba has strongly criticized the government's decision to allow undocumented foreign nationals' children to attend school without producing identification. Mashaba claims this move renders South Africa's sovereignty "null and void" and legitimizes illegality. Elvis Presslin speaks to him to elaborate further on his sentiments
In a bid to challenge South Africa's political heavyweights, Rise Mzansi, ActionSA, Bosa, and the Good Party are exploring possibilities for greater cooperation ahead of future elections. Party leaders Songezo Zibi, Mmusi Maimane, Herman Mashaba, and Patricia de Lille have confirmed informal discussions focusing on parliamentary collaboration. While a formal merger remains unlikely before 2029, the talks hint at a strategic realignment to capture disillusioned voters. With shared goals of multiracialism, economic reform, and anti-corruption, The parties aim to strengthen their combined influence, currently holding 14 parliamentary seats. Formal discussions are expected to begin in early 2025. Udo Carelse spoke to Rise Mzansi's national spokesperson, Gugu Ndima
Herman Mashaba on illegal miners in underground standoff by Radio Islam
On this edition of the Sunday Show on BizNews, Neil de Beer, the President of the United Independent Movement, says Deputy President Paul Mashatile - who has reaffirmed government's commitment to expropriation of land without compensation - should be hauled before court on “terrible” charges of corruption; examines the possible reasons behind the dropping of a corruption charge against former Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa and lists several other cases that have been withdrawn - despite “tantamount evidence”. He gives his verdict on the war of words between ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba and political economist Phumlani M. Majozi over social media posts by the latter - and explains why he believes they are both in the wrong. He also vows to get the inside story on an apparently leaked Helen Zille video about “the ANC's manipulation (in GNU negotiations), apparently to keep international relationships and international ministries going because that's where they get most of their stuff”. Furthermore, De Beer comments on the election outcomes in Botswana - where the ruling party was peacefully ousted after 58 years in power - and in Mozambique where unrest has broken out over Frelimo's alleged rigging of the election - amid rumours that Swapo could lose the next election in Namibia.
In this episode of BizNews NewsWrap, we delve into the heated debate surrounding capitalism and socialism, featuring insights from influential Rob Hersov, who champions the successes of capitalism, and Kevin Lings, who warns of South Africa's escalating debt crisis. We also hear from Herman Mashaba, who challenges divisive political narratives, and Phumlani Majozi, who advocates for empowering black youth to shape their futures. Join us for thought-provoking discussions tackling pressing issues affecting South Africa today.
A war of words is raging between political economist Phumlani M. Majozi and ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba. In this interview with BizNews, Majozi responds to yesterday's interview with Mashaba in which he revealed that he had consulted lawyers over social media posts made by Majozi. In our interview, we ask Majozi whether he really believes that there is “not a single black politician” in the country “who stands for basic traditional values of hard work, personal responsibility, stronger business productivity, stronger families, law and order”. We also also ask him why he labelled us at BizNews “clowns” after the Mashaba interview aired.
ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba is ready to take legal action over social media posts by political economist Phumlani M Majozi and some other commentators. In this interview with BizNews, he says: “…we will honestly get some of the best lawyers to put them in front of the nation to really give us evidence of the nonsense they are promoting of us as black people to really be corrupt, that we don't have values of hard work.” Mashaba's party is is also getting ready to bring a motion to get rid of former Johannesburg Mayor turned MMC Kabelo Gwamanda who is currently on special leave following his arrest over allegations of fraud. “I fail to understand why the ANC is actually failing to deal with this Gwamanda, the former mayor. Now they put him as the MMC, someone who actually cheated the poor black people in Soweto.” Furthermore, he says ActionSA is putting pressure on the ANC government to help turn around Johannesburg. He also gives an update on the governance issues in Tshwane where his party now holds the mayoral position. And he hails the return to ActionSA of dozens of formerly disgruntled activists in preparation for the 2026 municipal elections.
ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has slammed the Democratic Alliance for “fear mongering” in its ongoing war of words over his party entering into a working relationship with the African National Congress in Joburg and ousting the DA Mayor from Tshwane with the support of the ANC. “The DA, unfortunately, the mistake that they're making is to think that they are the only people who governs and they must govern on their own…They negotiate like we live in a one-party state and military rule.” Speaking to BizNews following the election of an ActionSA Mayor in Tshwane, he expresses determination to turn the capital city around. “And I think this time around, having the ANC, provincial and national behind this….This will make it much easier…we are going to take advantage of this relationship to build one United South Africa, provide services to all the residents…We will want the residents to hold us accountable.” As for working with the ANC, he says: “…I really hope that they've got a wake-up call because if not, if they thought they were punished with a recent election, if they don't really turn around, they will be further punished.”
This episode of the BizNews Briefing features ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba on the DA and Gauteng; SARS Senior Manager Bernard Kruger on Crypto tax; Equites Property Fund CEO Andrea Taverna-Turisan; Mantengu Mining CEO Mike Miller; plus today's market commentator, Cornelius Zeeman from Fairtree Investment. In his weekly Sunday Show with BizNews, Neil de Beer, the President of the United Independent Movement (UIM), dissects the “Wrecking Ball” politics that is currently reaching epic levels in South Africa, and talks about some of the politicians who are at the forefront of the political infighting, including Helen Zille, Dr Pieter Groenewald, Herman Mashaba, Panyaza Lesufi, Cilliers Brink…De Beer further comments on AfriForum wanting the Democratic Alliance and the Vryheidsfront Plus to leave the Government of National Unity (GNU) if the BELA Bill is signed into law unchanged. In this interview, a rising star among political analysts, IRR campaign manager Makone Maja, unpacks the latest developments in the ‘spectator sport' that is SA politics. She reckons ActionSA's leader Herman Mashaba's approach reflects an inability to appreciate how tired Gauteng voters are of the governance instability wracking their Metros. She spoke to BizNews editor Alec Hogg.
ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba speaks to BizNews about the “dirty political environment” in which Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink of the Democratic Alliance was ousted. He says the DA leadership at national level has been doing “everything possible to even threaten” the African National Congress to do the deal with them in Tshwane. “…the DA is still trying everything in their books, including actually using blackmail…and…according to the ANC, they find this to really be totally unacceptable because when they formed the GNU, there were no discussions around municipalities.” Mashaba adds: “Perhaps they even still succeed because we've got 14 days to form a new government. If the ANC is going to concede to blackmail, it's up to them.” Meanwhile, Mashaba is pushing for Deputy Mayor Dr. Nasiphi Moya to replace Brink. “All the credits that Cilliers Brink is seen to be doing, actually, it's a result of our deputy mayor.” If everything goes according to plan, he does, however have this warning for the ANC: “You want to work with us, you work with us at your own risk if ever you want to continue corruption because no one is going to be protected from corruption, including ActionSA members.”

ActionSA Cuts All Ties with DA in Tshwane | Herman Mashaba by Radio Islam
In this second edition of the BizNews Briefing, host Alec Hogg takes us through the business news of the day, markets and contributions from Kokkie Kooyman, Frans Cronje, Herman Mashaba and more
ActionSA Leader Herman Mashaba is set to enter negotiations for an alternative municipal coalition government in the capital Tshwane - after leaving the Multi-Party Coalition with the Democratic Alliance. In this interview with BizNews, Mashaba states: “The only thing that is now left is whether ActionSA will be able to put together a new government with other parties that subscribe to our values of fighting corruption, focus on service delivery to the residents of Tshwane, and ethical leadership. If we can pass this, then we'll be able to really form a new government with other parties without the DA. But in the event we fail - because we are not going to go into an arrangement with other parties for the sake of going - we've taken a decision that come the 26th, ActionSA is happy and comfortable...to really be on the opposition benches.” While Mashaba stresses that he is not going to be “unreasonable”, he is also adamant that he is fully prepared to “walk away” in the event that parties don't agree. “I think the only thing I'm asking the ANC to do is that, guys, if you're going to co-govern with us, we've got to declare corruption public enemy number one. We've got to put in professional people to run our government. We've got to save all communities, suburbs, townships, villages.” As for the DA, he states: “…one thing that we want to make clear to South Africans is that the DA coalition in Tshwane can forget about getting the support from our councillors in Tshwane.”
In this week's Sunday Show with Neil de Beer, he dissects the coalition battles between the DA and ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba in Gauteng, where Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink is becoming “cannon fodder”, and between the FF Plus in the Western Cape where Corné Mulder “is not standing back and has decided to continue removing the DA out of power”. De Beer asks: “..what the hell is going on in the spirit of the GNU. Because everything that is happening on the top shelf is absolutely collapsing on the bottom end…it seems we're going for a full blown war in 2026 between the parties.” De Beer describes how ANC Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Vice-President Paul Mashatile are positioning themselves towards the ANC elective conference. “…Lesufi is 100% making himself politically relevant. You can clearly see that Paul Mashatile is dreading either the knock of The Hawks or the people just staying calm so that he can take that seat.” De Beer also speaks about the battle for the soul of the judiciary with Justice Minister Thembi Simelane and former judge John Hlophe in the firing line. And PA Minister Gayton Mckenzie gets a thumbs up from him for his handling of a Parliamentary war-of-words with EFF CIC Julius Malema. Not quite a year and a half into recovery, the Tshwane Metro is again on the brink of descending into chaos. In this interview, Tshwane's executive mayor, Cilliers Brink, unpacks why this is happening. He says the national leaders of Action SA, specifically its founder/president Herman Mashaba, are imposing their will on the party's members in the capital city. Action SA, with 19 seats, is currently in coalition with the DA (69), Freedom Front Plus (17) and a few smaller parties in the group governing the 214-member council. Taken to its logical conclusion, Mashaba's decision to withdraw Action SA from a functional alliance will re-introduce an ANC/EFF “doomsday coalition”. He spoke to BizNews editor Alec Hogg.
With the Government of National Unity having been in power for over two months already, BizNews asked Dr. Ina Gouws of the Department of Political Studies and Governance at Free State University for her impressions. She dissects the early achievements of the GNU as well as the coalition chaos at provincial and municipal level. She doesn't think there's “a better strategist” than Vice President Paul Mashatile “in terms of moving himself and maneuvering himself into certain positions and being able to find himself in the right place at the right time for his own sake.” Analysing the defection of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) deputy president Floyd Shivambu to MK were he is now the National Organiser, she says” “His hatred that he displayed in Parliament of Jacob Zuma and what he's done seemingly disappeared at a moment where opportunity was given to him to maybe take up that position. And maybe he has ambitions to one day lead MK or lead this grand leftist progressive coalition to challenge the Government of National Unity…” Meanwhile, she feels it is just a matter of time before the African National Congress (ANC) “reigns in” the GNU-defiant Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi. As for Herman Mashaba's ActionSA getting into bed with the ANC in Joburg, she comments: “What they are willing to do on local level and willing to tolerate and willing to protect even for seemingly the sake of just keeping the DA out…”
Tshidi Madia speaks to TK Nciza, the ANC Gauteng Provincial Secretary, Herman Mashaba, the Action SA leader and Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku the leader of DA Caucus in Johannesburg about the resignation of the mayor of Joburg, Kabelo Gwamanda. Mashaba reveals that his party would like to occupy the position of speaker. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
