The Gauteng Department of Education has been criticized for its slow response. A R65 million lawsuit has been filed in the High Court nearly two years after the devastating Boksburg tanker explosion that killed 41 people. LHL Attorneys, representing 67 victims, is seeking compensation for losses, injuries and trauma caused by the December 2022 tragedy. The suit targets Infinite Fleet Transport, Innovative Staffing Solutions and the City of Ekurhuleni accusing the trio of negligence in the disaster that scarred the community. A 40-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of Ekurhuleni auditor Mpho Mafole will appear in Kempton Park Magistrates' Court today. Mafole was shot earlier this month while heading home from work. He had been investigating a two-billion-rand shortfall in the metro's electricity accounts. Police are still searching for a second suspect, Hlanganani Agripper Mncwango. Four former Transnet executives are appearing in the Palm Ridge Magistrates court, in Ekurhuleni after handing themselves over to police this morning. Their appearance is linked to an alleged fraudulent 93-million-rand locomotive tender. In 2012, Transnet went on a tender for the acquisition of the more than one-thousand locomotives deal. The executives are charged in connection with an irregular payment of R93,4 million to Trillian Asset management for organising a R30 billion loan to help buy locomotives. It's alleged it was a double payment as Transnet had already paid another transaction advisory firm - Regiments. Trillian allegedly did nothing to earn the fee but invoiced Transnet.

The South African Municipal Workers' Union (SAMWU) has called on the City of Ekurhuleni to discontinue disciplinary action against nearly 400 metropolitan police officers over an unprotected strike. A dispute over salary adjustments and over-time compensation sparked the strike which took place in March. The city says it has issued pre-dismissal notices to 389 officers for misconduct. The City of Ekurhuleni says it notes with concern the ongoing illegal strike action involving members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD). This evening on Legal matters we look at father's right to get access/custody to their children and this is sparked by the recent case of Pastor Mboro's son forcefully taking his kids from their primary school. On Monday morning, 7th August 2024, Mboro, his son and his bodyguard went to Matshediso Primary School in Ekurhuleni wielding a rifle and pangas, intimidating teachers and traumatising learners. The pastor is involved in an ongoing custody dispute, which is proving to be messy, after the mother of the children died earlier this year. It's been reported that Mboro covered some of the funeral costs.
