Title: An Encounter with the Lord: Dos and Don'ts Passage: Genesis 18:1-15 A Proper Response to God and His Revelation (vv. 1-8) A Wrong Response to God and His Revelation (vv. 9-12) A Right Rebuke from the Lord (vv. 13-15)
Psalm 19 is another Messianic Psalm (in the middle of a cluster of Messianic Psalms). C.S. Lewis wrote: “This Psalm reflects, more than any other, the beauty and splendour of the Hebrew poetry found in the Psalter. I take this to be the greatest poem in the Psalter and one of the greatest lyrics in the world.'” It is an important source of the Doctrine of Revelation in the Bible. It is in 3 Parts: (1) God's General Revelation in Creation, a revelation of God's person, power and nature to all people (v1-6), (2) God's Special Revelation of Himself in His written Word (v7-11), and (3) God's purpose in revealing Himself to us and our right response to His Revelation (v12-14). In Part 1 the name of God used is EL - the Almighty Creator, and in Part 2, the name of God used is YAHWEH (x7), His personal Covenant Name, for it is His special revelation that is designed to bring us into a personal covenant relationship to Him. v1-6 describe God's Message in Creation, especially through the heavens: "The heavens declare the glory (splendour) of God; and the firmament (expanse) shows His handiwork (the work of His hands)" (v1). Creation is designed to be a revelation of God, His glory, wisdom, and creative greatness: “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse” (Rom 1:20, see also Acts 14;17 and 17:22-28). It tells us: "He is glorious in His size, having created something so big. He is glorious in His engineering, having created something that works together so well. He is glorious in His artistry, having created something so beautiful. He is glorious in His goodness and kindness, having created something for all humanity to see." Creation reveals the unity of God (it is a universe, with universal laws, and all life has God's signature of DNA, showing it all has a common Designer) as well as the plurality of the Godhead (manifested through all the creative diversity in the world). God's general revelation is continuous and abundant: "Day unto day utters (pours forth) speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge." The image is of a gushing spring that copiously pours forth sweet, refreshing waters of revelation. In v1-6, the Psalmist talks about both the revelation by day and the revelation by night. By day, the sun shines upon the earth, so we can see His handiwork down below, especially life, which proves there must be an intelligent Designer. By night, we see the stars, which reveal His immensity and power, as well as proclaiming the Gospel. Moreover this general revelation is universal: "There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line (sound - LXX) has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world" (v3-4a). The Bible also teaches God used the stars and constellations to preach the Gospel to ancient mankind (who looked at the stars much more than us), before God's written Word was available. We know this for in Romans 10, Paul quoted from Psalm 19, which describes God's revelation in the heavens, and applies it to the Gospel: “But they have not all obeyed the Gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. But I say, have they not heard (the Gospel)? Yes indeed: “Their sound has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world” (v16-18). So the Gospel is in the Stars. This is confirmed in Genesis 15, when Abraham was justified by faith: “Then He brought him outside and said: “Look now toward heaven, and count (tell, declare) the stars if you are able to number (tell, declare) them.” And He said to him: “So shall your descendants (SEED) be.” And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness” (v5-6). The word translated 'count' means 'to tell, to give an account'. In other words, God asked him to tell the story in the stars. It is the very same word that is translated 'declare' in Psalm 19:1. That is, he was to declare the message that the stars were declaring. This was the Gospel Message of the Messiah. When he did this, God confirmed (preached) the Gospel to him, by saying: "so shall your SEED (the Messiah) be" - that is, the Messiah is coming and will be the Seed of Abraham (see Gal 3:8). So, Abraham, our father of faith, was justified by faith, as we are, through believing the Gospel, not through believing God would give him many children - which is absurd! God had revealed the Gospel of the Coming Messiah to Adam and Eve (Gen 3:15,21), and taught them the need for sacrifices, which they then passed down to their descendants. He also designed the stars to be signs pointing to His truth (Gen 1:14), and He named the stars and revealed their names to man (Isa 40:26, Ps 147:4). He named and designed the constellations to reveal His truth (Job 26:13, 9:8-9, 38:31-33, Amos 5:6-8). David knew the

Some of these things have become so prevalent that even the Congress of the United States has held hearings about the existence of them and what the response of the American government and military has been or should be. Are there plausible explanations for any of these things? How can we talk about these things with others who believe they've experienced some of these things? How should a Christian respond? Join Dr. Richard Caldwell and Dr. Josh Philpot this week on the Straight Truth Podcast as they discuss this unusual topic of the unknown that intrigues, fascinates, and consumes the attention of many worldwide. As they do this, they remind believers of what we are to give our minds and attention to, the revealed Word of God.Dr. Caldwell believes this is a good conversation to have. Even to broaden it out, he says to include all conspiracy theories. When it comes to living our lives, we will either live our lives in the realm of what we know or always be trying to live them in the realm of what we don't know and probably will never know. As believers, we must live our lives in the realm of what we know, and what we know is what God has told us, which is what He's revealed in His Word. So, as believers, we don't try to live outside of His Revelation. He has told us everything He has made, which includes our world, all the planets, the stars, the sun, the moon, the universe (the heavens), angels, and everything else. And He tells us out of all of that creation, the crowning achievement was mankind. Then, throughout the rest of God's Word, we're told the story of man's fall, the results of that fall, and the story of redemption for man in His Son, Christ Jesus. Dr. Caldwell shares that if there was some other intelligent life outside of men and angels,

How would one know their role and life purpose unless one received clear and practical instructions as to what God wants and expects of them? Thus comes the need for Prophethood. God has sent thousands of Messengers and Prophets to humanity to convey His Message and communicate to us. Every nation on Earth has received a Prophet. They all preached the same general message that there is only one deity worthy of worship, and we should follow His commandments. He is the One and Only God, without a partner, son, daughter, or equal. God sent Messengers and Prophets to guide humanity away from worshipping created beings and toward worshipping Him, the Creator of all things. Prophets came to teach their people who their Creator is, how to build a relationship with Him, and how to love Him. These Prophets taught their people that life is only a test; the successful will enter Paradise eternally, while the unsuccessful will undergo the ultimate punishment in the Hereafter. God sent Messengers with Revelation to humanity to guide them, starting with the Prophet Adam, including Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Jacob, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad PBUT. Due to God's Love and Mercy, He began to guide humanity as soon as He created Adam and Eve PBUH. He instructed them to worship Him alone, the one and only God, and not worship His creation. He ordered them to submit fully to Him. Later, this message was given to the rest of the Messengers and Prophets of God to deliver to their people. The practice of fully submitting to God, which the Prophets taught, is Islam. Islam, by definition, means the act of submitting to God. A Muslim, by definition, is "someone who submits himself to God." Anyone who submits to God is called a Muslim. "He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus - to establish the religion and not be divided therein..." (Quran 42:13) Many of the Prophets are found in the Jewish and Christian traditions. Whenever God sent Messengers with Revelation, people distorted and changed the Revelation of God after they passed. What was once pure Revelation from God was polluted with the words of historians, scholars, random people, superstitions, irrational philosophical ideologies, and idol worship and included many malicious inserts and deletions throughout time, done for the person's own agenda and political and financial gain. Whenever people distorted the Message of God and His Revelation, God sent another Messenger or Prophet to reform or renew His Message out of His infinite Mercy. Jesus Christ was sent to reform the previous message sent by the Prophet before him, Prophet Moses PBUH, as Prophet Moses' Message was distorted after his departure. Jesus Christ is quoted in the Bible as saying, Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. (Matthew 5:17). Just like how Jesus Christ was sent to reform the message of the Prophet before him, Prophet Muhammad PBUH came to reform Prophet Jesus' Message because it had been too distorted by people after his departure and did not survive in its original form. Because God will not be sending any more Revelations and Messengers to humanity, Prophet Muhammad PBUH and God's final Revelation, the Holy Quran, is meant for all humanity until the last day. All previous Messengers and Books other than the Holy Quran and the Prophet Muhammad PBUH were sent to only a specific group of people and were meant to be followed for a particular period; they had expiration dates. For example, Prophet Jesus PBUH was one of God's mightiest Messengers, sent down with the same general Message of all previous Prophets but only to the Children of Israel—the nati

God testifieth to the unity of His Godhood and to the singleness of His own Being. On the throne of eternity, from the inaccessible heights of His station, His tongue proclaimeth that there is none other God but Him. He Himself, independently of all else, hath ever been a witness unto His own oneness, the revealer of His own nature, the glorifier of His own essence. He, verily, is the All-Powerful, the Almighty, the Beauteous. He is supreme over His servants, and standeth over His creatures. In His hand is the source of authority and truth. He maketh men alive by His signs, and causeth them to die through His wrath. He shall not be asked of His doings and His might is equal unto all things. He is the Potent, the All-Subduing. He holdeth within His grasp the empire of all things, and on His right hand is fixed the Kingdom of His Revelation. His power, verily, embraceth the whole of creation. Victory and overlordship are His; all might and dominion are His; all glory and greatness are His. He, of a truth, is the All-Glorious, the Most Powerful, the Unconditioned. In Scripture, Jesus’ return is described with three words: His Revelation (unveiling), His Appearing, and His Coming. The Bible teaches that as the return of Jesus draws near that those days will be characterized as days of difficulty, deception and defiance. Followers of Jesus and Churches will be tempted and pressured to follow the ways of the world. However James encourages us to be patient, stand firm and endure.
As a preparation for His own claim as a Messenger of God, Baha'u'llah revealed a remarkable work known as the Kitab-i-qan or Book of Certitude. It lays out the central theology of His Revelation- that of the fundamental oneness of religion and the oneness of its various expressions in the revelations that have formed the great religions of humankind. Dr Williams introduces this marvelous work in two parts. The first part is presented here, and it generally outlines the broad and universal theology of Baha'u'llah, which will act as an "eye to past ages and centuries", helping us understand the past and also our future. Part 1 is below and part 2 may be found here. (Unfortunately, due to a malfunction in our recording device, the part 1 recording has a fair amount of "pops" in it, low base noises. Dr Williams will re-record it in due time, with a pop filter to eliminate this effect. In the meantime, we are posting this copy.)
SERMON THESIS- God is God and as God He is too sovereign to be shy about acknowledging His providential power over, and purpose in each and every event of life. This is true in the good times as well as in the bad times- The God of the mountain is also God of the valley. The God of the day is also God of the night. The God of the sunshine is also God of the storms. And the God behind peace and prosperity is also the God behind the plagues and pandemics---NOTE- God deals with humanity based upon the -LAW OF RELATIONSHIP-- This law states that relationship results in responsibility and accountability. The closer the relationship the greater the responsibility and correction---NOTE- God is, and He is not silent- He is ever speaking but few are listening. Periodically Providence roars. When He does, the whole world is forced face the sound of Sovereign severity- When mankind forsakes God's Word, they must face God's Whip- If we reject His Revelation, we will receive His Retribution- This is never because God hates us, on the contrary, it is because He loves us with a love that refuses to let us be less than we were created to be- God's correction issues from the flowing stream of Divine love and moves us to fear Him-
Beware that you be not spoiled of man Colossians 2:6-10 “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:” This teaching is from one of our Tuesday night meetings. Here we are looking at Colossians 2. The Apostle Paul is declaring to the Colossians that all fullness is in Christ. As you have received Him, walk in Him. Rooted, built, abounding in Christ Jesus. In Him is the fullness of the Godhead bodily. In Him is your completion. This is such a beautiful set of scripture. In Him is the fullness and in His fullness we are complete. I believe the vision of the Son of Man in the Book of Revelation Chapter 1 is a picture of the fullness of Christ Jesus in the Church. Here is where we are to abound. Here is where we are to grow, in the knowledge of Christ. In Him we have come to God’s fullness. In Him we have come to our perfection and completion. Let us abound in Him. In the midst of Paul’s presentation to the Colossians of the believer being in Christ’s fullness he puts out a warning. “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” Here I am concerned is where many believer’s walk, after the traditions of man and not after Christ. I believe this is evident even in much of our speech, as we typically declare to one another I am a Pentecostal, or a Baptist, or a Kingdom preacher. We have, without meaning to, divided the Body of Christ. Paul told the Corinthians they were carnal and walked as men because of this very thing. (I Corinthians 3:3) In Galatians 1, the Apostle Paul writes and tells the believers he is astonished with them. His astonishment is that they have moved away from Christ to finding perfection and completion in the law. This I am afraid is one of the strongest bonds that is upon Christians today. They come and receive Christ who frees us from the law, and then are immediately preached back up under its bonds. Anything but Christ spoils us. The word spoil in Colossians 2 is defined as to carry off as booty or prey. I can see in my mind a pirate coming in and gaining booty from his conquest. We become the spoil anytime we are moved from the truth that is in Christ. We need to be vigilant in the Word of the Lord to understand the truth that He, Jesus Christ, is. Our hearts must always be turned to abound in Him. Set our minds to His Revelation. Set our thoughts to His course. Let Him be Master, Savior and King. Glory to God!

Now that we've finished this extended introduction to the Book of Revelation, it's worth our time to pause and reconsider these seven churches. The Lord intended these messages not simply to the named churches in Revelation but to all who have ears to hear. His messages, then, are for the modern, western, evangelical church. As we examine the peaks and valleys of the church surrounding us, we cannot help but see how His Revelation comes to bear on us all.
Ustadh Michael Wolfender focuses on a popular surah, the guidance in Surah 36 Ya-Sin, where Allah indicates His Book is a revelation of His Mercy. Allah has sent His messengers as a mercy to mankind and His Revelation full of wisdom. Yet His messengers are mocked by their communities. In this surah, Allah lists examples of what we should be thankful for, illustrating why we should recognize Allah as our Provider. Allah reminds us we are quick to turn to Him when in need, with a reminder that believers are always thankful, too. Brother Michael explains a comparison Surah Ya-Sin, often referred to as the heart of the Holy Qur’an, makes of people who do not acknowledge Allah as our Caretaker with unyielding ground. Each of these periods of time can be delineated by a specific initial event, a resposibility, a failure, and a specific final event. As we look to examine the final of these dispensations - Kingdom, we must first discuss the inset of the final 7 years of one of Daniel's prophecies that is yet to be completed but revealed by Jesus in His Revelation to John. From the Jesus' Epistles in His Revelation, as penned by John, Jesus Christ praises the Ephesian Church before correcting their lack of first love for Him, i. e. their foremost devotion. In like manner, many modern believers have much to be praised for by the Lord, but if we lack passion for Him, we are in need of His correction.
