In today's episode of the Atheist Experience, Secular Rarity and Holy Koolaid, untangle the entangled particles to see that abiogenesis may not have an AI cause. Bill in MI has a theory that the purpose of life is to entangle every other particle in the universe in order to resolve uncertainty. We as humans are good at seeing patterns. What patterns are you seeing in the entanglement? Why do you think it was you that discovered this? What are the reasons for gatekeeping with high level academia? Tim in NY is 51% believer and 49% atheist because we have seen humans create intelligence but we have never seen intelligence show up. If one structure of the argument has a fallacy, like this black swan, the whole argument chain needs to be reworked if you want to get to a reliable conclusion. Why would the intelligence on this earth not be considered to have arised naturally? There is a difference between an increase of likelihood of existence and actual existence. We have seen amino acids and nucleic acids form on their own in simulated conditions.Denny in IL talks about how mathematicians and philosophers have defined god as the foundation of existence. When scientists talk about energy, they are talking about something that is measurable and a different definition of what people use for god. This sounds like a classic case of equivocation. Explore some responses people have to presuppositional apologetics. Hannah in MS has an argument that morality should be universal and that abortion is wrong when it is not saving the life of the mother because it is killing innocent people. How would you feel if you were forced to use your kidneys to keep someone alive for 9 months? Do you have an obligation to keep this person alive, or do you want bodily autonomy? Why should we preserve life and why is this a universal principle? Why assume sapience and sentience by equivocating this fetus as a fully formed human and why does it have more value than the mother?Omega Weapon in NY says that by using basic cosmology and logic that most concepts of god can be falsified. For instance it is logically impossible for god to be independent of space time and be the creator of it. You might have to shift some things for the idealists to agree with this, but the argument works. Antwion in NC wants to talk about how to let go of the fear of hell and what methods the hosts used. SR found his secular therapist through The Secular Therapy Project. Holy Koolaid realized how many things there are in life that have been attributed to demons but really are not demons. The phenomenon of sleep paralysis is a prime example of this where hypnagogic hallucinations are experienced. We know exactly what is happening in the brain and can measure it, yet people believe this is caused by demons. What types of things do people mistake for demon possession? If you go out and learn about how these religions evolved, it will help understand how man made these things are.Thank you for joining us for this live show! This week Sam and Daniel are joined by Thomas Westbrook, who is also known as Holy Koolaid. Thomas' YouTube channel was one of the first that I (Sam) deep-dived into when I began to question my Christian heritage. In this conversation, we talk to Thomas about his journey, channel, beliefs and goals. It's an honest conversation that really gets at the heart of why people can leave a faith-based religious system and hold onto awe and wonder at the world around them. Do you believe in psychics, mediums, or prophets of god? How about the historicity of the bible? Today is a fantastic day to call in because friend of the show Thomas Westbrook will be joining us again today. Thomas' channel @Holy Koolaid is dedicated to debunking pseudoscience and researching biblical claims in a fast-paced informative way.Give us a call and tell us why you think we've got it wrong at 585-526-8774 or tiny.cc/callSG.You can check out Thomas' channel here: https://www.youtube.com/HolyKoolaid ___________________TIME STAMPS & CALL NOTES 00:00 - Intro - Who Is Thomas Westbrook of Holy Koolaid?03:30 - Does Capitalism Equal Morality? - Javier (he/him) - FL 29:40 - Time Doesn't Exist… Baba Booey! - “Giovanni” (he/him) - VA 49:33 - Holy Koolaid vs. Freya - Relic (he/him) - TX 1:18:50 - Hell Is Better Than Nothing? - Yosiah (he/him) - VA 03:30A libertarian calls in to argue about whether or not certain rights encourage things like freeloading. Thomas talks about the Veil of Ignorance and the technicalities of living in a society, while Eric waxes philosophical about what a moral society should be like. Do you agree? More importantly…. ROADS? 29:40Troll alert! “Giovanni” proposes that time does not actually exist! This is Thomas's cup of tea: he breaks down some scientific facts about the concept of time to debunk this caller's claims. If only this conversation was legitimate, and not going to end in a train wreck… 49:33We've talked with Relic a few times, and he is finally calling in to tell us what he believes and why. Spirits exist and manifest as various polytheistic gods, in his experience specifically Norse and Greco Roman pantheons. Eric sits back and lets Thomas react. It's the first week of spring and our allergies are letting us know! Cultures and religions all over the world hold this equinox as sacred, so let's chat about your deeply held beliefs... about spring or anything else! This call got a bit rambly, and ended on a weird note when the caller told the hosts that because they were younger they should listen. Um? No, that's not how this works. 14:33 Repeat theist caller Relic starts this call by diving into why belief in an afterlife is not inherently harmful (something the hosts have differing opinions on), but it quickly becomes a conversation about Relic's own adventures into the afterlife, where he meets with spirits. How does he know that's what's happening? How has he determined this is true? Hear the backstory Relic referenced in his previous call to Skeptic Generation here: https://youtu.be/dzKA5W2_btc Other conversations with Relic are below: https://youtu.be/9Etj0Qg7oHEhttps://youtu.be/iZEWAOJFoCU If you want to know more about Kat Kerr, check out these videos on Holy Koolaid's channel. You may even see some people you recognize! Part 1: https://youtu.be/ikosus8S09M Part 2: https://youtu.be/v6zPkFJd58Q 48:55 A theist wants to know if the hosts think secular humanism leads to veganism. If so, why? Vi and Eric do their best to lay out a potential chain of rationality between deconverting from a religion that told you humans are special to a worldview like veganism that puts all species on a more level playing field. Disclaimer: Neither Eric nor Vi are vegans (at this point in time) and while they did their best to explain the logic behind such a worldview, they are open to feedback. Discuss in the comments if you have thoughts. 1:07:10Phoenix is doing therapy and it's making them question some core principles of identity. Is free will something that impacts our sense of self? Could we have identity without it? Are consciousness and “the self” synonymous? A more esoteric call, but a worthwhile one! 1:21:26Hoo boy. Today we are hoping to talk to some fishers of men. Some good old salty dogs just waiting for Christ himself to start backseat driving flounder straight into their nets. Are you confused? Also, is Jesus Aquaman? We dive in here. If you want to see the hosts react to other cringeworthy takes, tweet them @SkepticShow with your candidate for next week! 11:30 This polytheist caller pushes Eric to explain why the Kalam cosmological argument is wrong. Is there a reason to dismiss it entirely or should we simply be suspending belief? The hosts break it down. 30:13Back after a long period of silence, Eric and Vi allow JRobin back on the show in the hopes that he has learned more. They are deeply disappointed when he jumps straight back into his scripts, but this time they aren't letting him get away so fast. While Eric embodies compassionate listening to model honest communication, Vi goes for the jugular. 1:05:59Hard determinism is just as absurd as some religious claims, says this deist caller. Eric admits that the idea that we don't have free will is scary, but that shouldn't be enough to keep us from exploring all options. Vi suggests claims feel absurd or strange when they have not been reinforced by our surrounding community, or seem to contradict “common sense.” 1:18:16 Apparently this deist caller has been banned from other call-in shows, but he's calling in today to explain why we *have* to have come from a God. Eric and Vi dive into the difference between asking “how” versus asking “why,” and whether defining things as God is useful at all. This is the start of what will hopefully be a longer conversation next week! ___________________Skeptic Generation is LIVE every Sunday at 11:30am-1:00pm CTCall on your phone: 585-LA-MURPH (585-526-8774) Call online: https://tiny.cc/callSG Love the show? Eric is out of the state this week, which means Vi has invited on Skeptic Generation's very first guest host, Thomas Westbrook of @Holy Koolaid ! Join us on Sunday 8/8 at 11:30am CT to see who it is, and call 585-526-8774 or tiny.cc/callSG to talk with us about what you believe and why! 00:00 - Intro - Our First Guest Host on Skeptic Generation! 08:37 - Allison (she/they) - CAN - Should Everyone Get A Vaccine? 19:55 - Yousif (he/him) - IRAQ - Is the Cosmological Argument Convincing? 40:15 - Eric (he/him) - WV - Why Do Theists Use Philosophy to Prove God? 58:30 - Tzelly (she/they) - WA - Gods Exist and They Communicate With Me! 1:18:11 - Robin (he/him) - DC - The Final Showdown AKA He's Blocked Now 1:36:05 - Outro - Dare To Do Something, But Don't Drink The Thing… 08:37 Our guest host, Thomas Westbrook of Holy Koolaid, has done videos on the subject of vaccine efficacy and importance. Allison calls in to talk about her own experience trying to get a vaccine, and her concerns around pre-existing health conditions. Thomas gives some valuable statistics, while Vi points out that the goal is to vaccinate everyone who *can* be, to protect those for whom it might be dangerous or less effective. 19:55Yousif calls in from Iraq to discuss whether the cosmological argument is an effective one. He doesn't think so, and neither do the hosts. Vi suggests it presents a false dichotomy and is largely based on semantics, while Thomas goes in for the scientific angle to dismantle the idea that an intelligent First Cause was needed to create the universe. 40:15 Why do theists use philosophical arguments to try and prove god? Thomas suspects it's because they don't have any better arguments in areas like science or history. Our caller asks why we even bother engaging with philosophy, if science or history are better options. Vi points out the benefits of engaging with honest interlocutors and calling out dishonest ones. 58:30 Tzelly is a pagan who has a background in both Judaism and Christianity. She suggests that there are multiple gods who exist as manifestations of people groups' energies. She also claims to be in communication with them via subconscious thoughts and dreams. Vi and Thomas ask clarifying questions to try and verify these claims. 1:18:11 In a desperate last attempt at gaining the upper hand, Robin calls back to demand the hosts explain their “causal justification” absent an ultimate God. Both Thomas and Vi take stabs at understanding what this means, but Vi finally decides that enough is enough. This one gets heated, so get ready with the volume control. ________ Skeptic Generation is LIVE every Sunday at 11:30am-1:00pm CTCall on your phone: 585-LA-MURPH (585-526-8774) Call online: https://tiny.cc/callSG Love the show? This is our inaugural episode, and we are so excited to be here! We had a bunch of tech issues which meant we could only run for an hour, but we got to hear from some amazing people including Genetically Modified Skeptic, Holy Koolaid, and a bunch of people who share a birthday with SG! We also got a return call from Brenda, who is still very wrong about philosophy and also desperately condescending. Oh well. Special thanks to our amazing crew that helped behind the scenes, and to you, our viewers, who stuck with us and are getting a front-row seat for this new baby show's first steps! Going on to ask about what evidence can positively prove the God of the Bible. Sam, can you listen for a single God forsaken second? Have a conversation with Eric and Thomas, don’t preach at them. Ugh. Worst. Caller. Ever.Kale Chip in Kentucky is wondering about attending a memorial service/altar call for a friend and being surrounded by the religious. They took her memory hostage by saying “you’ll never see your friend again unless you repent.” That’s frustrating, Kale Chip. I’m sorry that you are having to go through that, especially now. Sean in Ohio is having trouble with wrapping his head around how libertarian free will isn’t a thing. The definition here being free will in the absence of or not determined by outside factors. Also known as random. He had a followup question, it was about philosophy wondering if it is just a bunch of navel gazing noise. This caller gets me.That’s our show for this week, please continue to be safe in your area, get vaccinated if you can, and wear your mask. The world is better with you in it. Happy Birthday Thomas! See you next week!

Welcome back to the show Thomas, did you bring tacos?!Let’s get to calls. The first caller is Brian from Oregon. The answer is 42. Just kidding, Brian brings up a couple scenarios of how to use hypnosis when talking with believers and experiences. Listen in to hear Thomas and Vi talk through this call.Next up, Moldred from New York would like to talk about how there are differences between religion (which is a top down hierarchy) and spirituality (which is a bottom up). Listen in to hear Vi and Thomas break this down. The following caller named Owen from Oregon is concerned about how there is a lot of biased evidence provided by the Catholic church and is making him wondering what is true. Vi and Thomas have a great conversation about this. The next caller in the queue is Ameet from New York wanting to discuss an event that occurred during the holidays with his parents. His parents are concerned with his marriage prospects due to his atheism. Is it wrong to be loud about one’s atheism? NO it’s not wrong! Ameet, it does get better, keep staying true to yourself.Next up is a returning caller, Josh in Texas would like to know if there were theists whose views we came to respect. Absolutely, as long as there is honesty going both ways, there can be common ground reached. Afterwards we have Brandon from Arizona. He has justification for Hell. Claims every single sin is punishable by eternal torture and torment in Hell and Jesus died for our sins to save us from Hell. But why though? Yeah, let’s eternally punish people for finite crimes, that sounds fair. /sWe finally are able to talk to Patricia from New York, she is concerned about her brother raising children within a religious faith and is wondering how she can help lessen the chance of indoctrination. Vi provides the best answer and a quote: “The best way to bridge this gap is to have them learn about all the religions.” — Darrel Ray.Our last caller of the day is Nick in Wisconsin. Discussing how he disagrees with Vi not bowing their head during holiday dinner prayers. He says he would have handled it differently, and sees it as being slightly disrespectful to their family. It truly comes down to a point of respect (like in a place of worship) but in a family home, it’s different and you should be allowed to be yourself.
