This is message 12 in the Isaiah series. Isaiah 10:5-24 The Assyrian Empire rose as a tool of divine judgement, wielded by God to discipline nations, including Israel, for their disobedience. However, Assyria's own pride and cruelty led to its downfall, demonstrating that no empire is beyond God's judgement. The empire's collapse, marked by the fall of Nineveh, reveals the fleeting nature of human power and the enduring sovereignty of God over the course of history. Historically Thinking: Conversations about historical knowledge and how we achieve it
It is the most influential book in the history of the world, a book that in many ways set the standard for what books would become, but it is also the book at the heart of a world spanning religion. It has never purported to be the words of God, but the result of a complex partnership between God and his creation, the result being a “divine words written by human hands.” This book is of course the Bible. On the grounds of sales and publications alone, it has been astonishingly successful. Due to a Niagara of translations and editions, dating back to the first centuries of the Christian religion, it has been a remarkably adaptive host for the ideas and emotions contained within it. My guest Bruce Gordon has written a biography of the Bible that focuses on its flow from the eastern Mediterranean into the farthest corners of the world, writing what he calls “the story of humanity's grasp for the impossible: the perfect Bible.” A native of Canada, Bruce Gordon is the Titus Street Professor of Ecclesiastical History at Yale Divinity School. Among his many publications are biographies of the Zurich reformer Huldrych Zwingli, and of the Genevan reformer John Calvin, as well as a “biography” of the life of Calvin's most important production, the Institutes of the Christian Religion. His most recent book is The Bible: A Global History, which is the subject of our conversation today.
For centuries, this ancient linen cloth, bearing the enigmatic image of a man who appears to have suffered the agonies of crucifixion, has captivated believers and skeptics alike. Is it the actual burial shroud of Jesus Christ or a remarkable medieval forgery? In this episode, we'll hear from several experts who have used the latest in scientific technology to examine the Shroud, offering insights that could bring us closer than ever to understanding its true origin.
Now that we have set the table in last weeks episode “The Very Good Of God," let's take on part two by diving into one of the most controversial passages of scripture, 1 Timothy 2:8-15. I can hardly wait to dive into this and hopefully debunk what has been taught and believed for so long.

This is message 19 in the Seven Churches of Revelation. Revelation 3:7-13 The message highlights the historical and spiritual significance of the church in Philadelphia as described in Revelation 3:7-13. Despite the church's hardships and small size, the small church remained faithful to God's word, did not deny Christ's name, and lived with an eternal perspective. Jesus recognized their perseverance and made several promises to them: He would keep the door of ministry open, defeat their enemies, come to rescue them before the Great Tribulation and grant them eternal significance. There is no church too small or insignificant in the eyes of Jesus, who loves and values His faithful followers deeply. This is message 14 in The Seven Churches of Revelation. Revelation 2:18-29 The Thyatira period, spanning A.D. 500 to 1500, is notable for the Roman Catholic Church's dominance, characterized by widespread idolatry and the centralization of power under the Pope, akin to Old Testament Jezebel's influence in Israel. Practices such as praying to saint images and valuing religious relics were prevalent, and the church promoted salvation through works and sacraments, contradicting biblical teachings. Notable dissenters like the Waldensians, John Wycliffe, and John Huss began challenging these practices, advocating for scriptural authority and laying the groundwork for the Reformation. This is message 13 in The Seven Churches of Revelation. Revelation 2:18-19 Thyatira, located southeast of Pergamos, was known for its military presence and commerce, particularly in purple dye. It was steeped in pagan worship, notably of the sun god Tyrimnas, depicted as a warrior. Contrasting with this, Jesus presents Himself with flaming eyes and feet of bronze, symbolizing divine authority and judgment. While Pergamos tolerated false teachings, Thyatira actively propagated them, leading its followers into spiritual adultery by prioritizing personal gains over genuine devotion to Christ. This is message 10 in The Seven Churches of Revelation. Revelation 2:12-17 Pergamos was a notable city in Asia, famous for its grand temples, including one to Zeus, and a large library. It was a center of Emperor worship and paganism, earning the title "seat of Satan." Despite this, faithful Christians like Antipas stood firm. Jesus rebuked the church for allowing the compromising doctrine of Balaam and urged them to separate from such influences, calling them to remain dedicated to God. This is message 4 in The Seven Churches of Revelation. Revelation 2:1-7 provides a backdrop for the church in Ephesus, a prominent city known for its size, significance, and the temple of Diana. The church, founded by Paul and led by notable pastors like Timothy and John, was commendable for its rigorous doctrine and influential ministry. However, despite their impressive works, they were warned by Christ to rekindle their genuine love for Him or risk losing their place of influence. Upon their arrival in Jerusalem, God's leaders set forward the work of rebuilding the temple. God's word says that the remnant gathered as one man. They set the example for us. We need the mind of God in order to follow the Lord in unity. And in order for the church to have the mind of Christ, each individual member must get in tune with the heart of God.

Ezra 7:11-28 The phrase " the service of the house of God” appears eighteen times in Ezra's writings. Ezra was conscious that everything he did and emphasized in the ministry God gave him was centered on the House of God. Jeremiah had written a history of the Hebrews kingdom in 1 & 2 Kings. The emphasis of Jeremiah in history was on the office of the prophet and the kings. Ezra was led by the Lord to record another history of the Southern Kingdom, this time the emphasis on the priests and the Temple. Over and over in the history of 2 Chronicles the phrase is recorded “In service of the House of the Lord”. The history of 2 Chronicles especially reminds people how important the House of the Lord is and emphasizes the service in God's house. This is message 01 in The Tabernacle Exodus 24:15-25:9 The Tabernacle stands as a powerful symbol of God's presence among His people, as a powerful symbol of God's presence among His people, a sanctuary where they could draw near to Him and experience His glory. It was not merely a structure but a divine invitation to enter into a deeper relationship with the one true God, who is worthy of all praise, honor, and adoration. Paul suggests the profound impact it would have if individuals were to fully devote themselves to the work of God. The term "addicted" in this context conveys the idea of voluntarily giving oneself over to a particular activity or cause, being devoted through consistent practice. Paul encourages believers to channel their passions and commitments towards spiritual growth, service, and dedication to God's work, emphasizing the transformative power of such wholehearted devotion. We celebrate Easter because the cross was not the end of the road for Jesus. He was crucified, dead, and buried in a tomb, and all hope seemed lost. And then, at dawn on Sunday, the tomb was found empty. An angel of the Lord told those looking for Him not to be afraid, for he knew that they were looking for Jesus, who was crucified. “He is not here; He is risen.” We celebrate a risen savior. God who became man for us, bore our debt for our sins on the cross, died and then defeated death, rose again, and now sits in heaven. Because of the truth of the resurrection, we know that our past is forgiven, our present is transformed, and our future is secure. Our hope comes from a risen Savior who is King of kings, Lord of lords, and gives us life because of His great sacrifice. If you are seeking answers about who Jesus is and why the resurrection is so important, then watch this sermon. You can discover that hope for eternity, and salvation can come through accepting Jesus as Savior today! We would love to connect with you and help you take the next step in your faith journey. In the book of 1 Thessalonians, the Bible speaks about Paul, Silvanus, Timotheus, and the church of the Thessalonians. Where did it all begin? Here we find a "case study" of the birth of a local church. Of course, it began in the heart and mind of God, but God records it for us in the book of Acts.
This is message 27 in 1 Corinthians 1 Corinthians 15:1-11 The gospel is the message necessary for someone to be saved, meaning to have forgiveness of sins. The gospel has three parts, each essential for salvation to be made available for man. The three parts are the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
