Today’s guest is somebody who inspires a lot of people with his words. His name is Adam Schmalholz, but you may be more familiar with his stage name, IN-Q, which stands for IN-Question. IN-Q is a National Poetry Slam champion, award-winning poet, multi-platinum songwriter, recent first-time author, and one of the most electric spoken word performers on the scene. In this episode, you’ll discover that his backstory is equally as fascinating as his poems. Listening to this conversation, you’ll find out how he first discovered his gift for poetry in school and how he went on to develop and refine his unique style. You’ll hear about the lean years, when IN-Q had no way of making money as a spoken word poet, when he had to pay for food with pocket change and work odd jobs to survive. You’ll also learn that, after putting in well over 10,000 hours in writing and performing, IN-Q finally had the opportunity to perform for people like Quincy Jones, Hillary Clinton, and even President Barack Obama. He went on to win awards, get featured on Def Poetry Jam and Oprah's Super Soul 100 List. His spoken word videos have received nearly 100 million views and he has sold out as the largest one-man poetry show in Los Angeles history. Like most changemakers, IN-Q’s backstory was not linear. Welcome to MintCast -- an interview series featuring dissenting voices the establishment would rather silence-- I’m your host Mnar Muhawesh Adley.President Nicolas Maduro is celebrating this week after a clear victory in the National Assembly elections that took place on December 6. Boosted by a partial opposition boycott, the ruling socialist coalition led by Maduro received over 69% of the votes cast and won a massive 253 of the 277 seats in the National Assembly, the only branch of government not under its control. While the government is celebrating, the low turnout of 31% has many worried its support is decreasing, although the vote was held in the middle of a pandemic. The U.S. government, who has long considered Venezuela an official enemy, decried the process as fraudulent before it began, instructing opposition parties to boycott it and sanctioning those that disobeyed their orders.Secretary of State Mike Pompeo took to Twitter to call Venezuela’s elections illegitimate, describing Maduro as a dictator and strongman, despite the fact that it was overseen by 1,500 election observers and 300 representatives from 34 countries.Joining MintCast are four guests who know the country well, Max Blumenthal, Anya Parampil, Adrienne Pine, and Alan MacLeod.Blumenthal is an award-winning journalist and author and editor of The Grayzone. He has been reporting from Venezuela this week and observed the elections himself. His latest book is “The Management of Savagery: How America's National Security State Fueled the Rise of Al Qaeda, ISIS, and Donald Trump.” He is also the co-host of the Moderate Rebels podcast.Parampil is a former producer and host at RT America’s “In Question.” She now hosts her own show, Red Lines, which you can find at The Grayzone and on YouTube.Pine is an associate professor of anthropology at the American University in Washington DC. In 2019, she occupied the Venezuelan embassy in DC to prevent it from falling into the hands of U.S.-backed self-declared president Juan Guaidó. Along with Blumenthal and Parampil, Pine observed the recent elections close up, traveling to Venezuela to serve as an election observer. Our third guest is MintPress’s own senior Staff Writer, Alan Macleod. “I love poetry because I think poetry makes people feel less alone. And it inspires empathy. And I think empathy is what the world needs most right now.” EPISODE SUMMARY: IN-Q (or IN-Question), is the stage name of Adam Schmalholz, an American songwriter and National Poetry Slam champion. In this episode, IN-Q shares how to work with your ego when you are ready to create art. He explains the importance of listening to your inner voice because that is the voice that is your ‘true north’, that will tell you your passion and your purpose. No one else can tell you what that voice is saying except you. He will help you find the way. Some Question I Ask: How did you become a poet? Did you always know you wanted to be a poet? How do you know if your poetry is good after writing? How do you get your ego out of the way of your creative process? What keeps you going when you feel like giving up? How do you prepare for a performance and stay in the flow?   In This Episode You Will Learn: The importance of your voice and developing a relationship with that part of yourself. The difference between speaking your truth and speaking from your ego. How to awaken your inner voice and create a relationship with it. How to define what comes from your intuition instead of your ego. How to connect with your true purpose and resolving any internal conflict.

On this episode of The Critical Hour, Dr. Wilmer Leon is joined by Anya Parampil, Washington, DC-based journalist. She previously hosted a daily, progressive afternoon news program called "In Question" on RT America."Hours before an expected vote at the United Nations General Assembly on the legitimacy of Venezuela's Maduro-led government amidst a US-led coup, a senior official of Juan Guaidó's coup regime was forced to resign from his position," The Grayzone reported Friday. "Economist Ricardo Hausmann stepped down from his post at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) following an exposé by The Grayzone's Anya Parampil of his conflicts of interest and opaque financial practices." What does this say about the attempted coup, and what does it mean going forward? House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff said Sunday that his panel has reached an agreement to secure testimony from the anonymous whistleblower whose detailed complaint launched an impeachment investigation into US President Donald Trump. This while, according to The Hill, "House Democrats want an impeachment inquiry that moves swiftly, but they say they have no timeline. They say they want to narrowly focus the investigation on President Trump and his alleged efforts to get a foreign government to dig up dirt on a political rival. Yet the potential witness list and lines of inquiry grow by the hour." Where are we going with all of this? While President Trump has hoped his negotiations with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will convince the country to give up its nuclear weapons, recently fired US national security adviser John Bolton contended in a Monday speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies think tank that North Korea will not denuclearize and that it has benefited from stalling in talks with the US. "It seems to be clear that [North Korea] has not made a strategic decision to give up its nuclear weapons. In fact, I think the contrary is true," Bolton said, adding that Kim "will never give up the nuclear weapons voluntarily." This is an interesting analysis from the same guy who said that Kim would go the same way as former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. Beto O'Rourke Enters 2020 Race With No Platform Just Platitudes

So, Beto O'Rourke enters the 2020 race with no substantive legislative accomplishments after having served three terms as a congressman. He speaks in very broad platitudes, but I have no idea from a policy perspective what he can do - not what he wants to do, but what he can do. Over the coming days, he's going to travel the country to listen to those whom he seeks to serve to understand from their perspective how we can best meet these challenges. That sounds very “Bernieesque” to me, in that during the last campaign, Bernie Sanders was often asked: how do you plan to accomplish your agenda? He would say, it's not up to me, it's up to the voters, or something similar. Some analysts are asking if a white male is the best fit for 2020 with such a diverse Democratic field, particularly after many midterm successes powered by female and nonwhite candidates. What does this mean for the Democratic political landscape? What is O'Rourke about, based upon what he has accomplished rather than what he campaigns on? How does he get so much traction when a candidate like Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) is currently getting very little? According to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro must go – even if the military has to intervene. This is part of the misinformation and disinformation campaign that you find in varying degrees in mainstream corporate media. Gingrich writes for Fox News Thursday, “There is one simple answer to the humanitarian disaster in Venezuela. The dictator Nicolás Maduro and his corrupt, violent, repressive regime must go. Venezuela is part of the immediate American neighborhood. If our commitment to change is not effective in our own backyard, the impact on our prestige and leadership worldwide will be substantial.” Anya Parampil's piece in MintPress News, "Ricardo Hausmann's 'Morning After' for Venezuela: The Neoliberal Brain Behind Juan Guaido's Economic Agenda," articulates a different narrative based upon research and historical context. We'll examine the differences.GUESTS:Garland Nixon — Co-Host of Fault Lines on Sputnik News. Anya Parampil — Washington, DC-based journalist. US Attorney General Bill Barr is preparing to announce as early as next week the completion of special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation, with plans for Barr to submit to Congress soon after a summary of Mueller's confidential report. Under the special counsel regulations, Mueller must submit a "confidential" report to the attorney general at the conclusion of his work, but the rules don't require it to be shared with Congress, or, by extension, the public. And, as Barr has made clear, the Justice Department generally guards against publicizing "derogatory" information about uncharged individuals. What's the media to do? Americans have been whipped into a frenzy about this report, and it looks like it's going to be anti-climatic in terms of its legal scope. Politically, who knows? The Supreme Court struck an extraordinary blow for criminal justice reform on Wednesday, placing real limitations on what many have called policing for profit across the country. Its unanimous decision for the first time prohibits all 50 states from imposing excessive fines, including the seizure of property, on people accused or convicted of a crime. What are the real implications of this decision? As the deadline approaches for the withdrawal of US forces fighting the Daesh in Syria, America's closest European allies have turned down a Trump administration request to fill the gap with their own troops, according to US and foreign officials. France and Britain are the only other countries with troops on the ground in the US-led coalition battling Daesh. French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said last week that he was mystified by Trump's policy. On Tuesday, British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said that “there is no prospect of British forces replacing the Americans” in Syria. What does mean for Syria going forward? On the website Grayzone Project, Anya Parampil writes, "Maria Faría, the daughter of a would-be Hugo Chávez assassin, illegally barged into Venezuela's embassy in Costa Rica and declared herself ambassador. The embarrassing stunt highlighted everything wrong with Juan Guaidó's reality-show government." We'll take a deep dive into everything wrong in Venezuela, the US attempt to overthrow President Nicolas Maduro and set the facts straight on the legitimacy of Juan Guaido. The Costs Of War Project released a report showing that "the American public has largely ignored the post-9/11 wars and their costs. But the vastness of Washington's counterterror activities suggests, now more than ever, that it's time to pay attention." What does his mean? They "set out to map all the places in the world where the United States is still fighting terrorism so many years later, since September 2001 when the Bush administration launched the 'Global War on Terror.'” What did they find? How much has this cost in blood and treasure? Their project's research shows that, "since 2001, the US war on terror has resulted in the loss — conservatively estimated — of almost half a million lives in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan alone. By the end of 2019, we also estimate that Washington's global war will cost American taxpayers no less than $5.9 trillion already spent and in commitments to caring for veterans of the war throughout their lifetimes." What's going on here?GUESTS:Brian Becker — Co-Host of Loud & Clear on Sputnik News Radio.
