Village People har ikke levet forgæves. I dagens historie skal vi nemlig en tur In The Navy med nogle Macho Men, der festede lidt for meget hos YMCA. For da den amerikanske hær i 1919 fik nys om, at en gruppe unge mænd i flåden havde sex med hinanden, så besluttede de sig for at tage dem med bukserne nede... Bogstaveligt talt. Hello Sailor! Jason from 'It's Not That Bad' podcast jumps onboard the 'Defend It Yourself' ship to review The Pirate Movie (1982), an Australian musical romantic comedy loosely based on The Pirates of Penzance. "Think Pirates of the Caribbean crossed with YMCA's 'In The Navy', throw a bit of Baywatch in there, a bit of Grease, a bit of Grease 2, the non-shark bits of Jaws and the dreamlike quality of Scrubs and you're about halfway there". My Guest: "It's the show that does its best to defend the unfairly maligned movies, to find the silver linings in the films deemed “less than great”. Every week, host Jason Whissell is joined by a guest to discuss a movie that has been poorly rated by the critics or by the fans" , description from their website: https://notthatbadcast.com/home/ Discussion Points: -Bus stops advertisements. -Taking the context and the time that the film was made into account when watching the film. -The Pirate King and his fantastic lines, played charmingly by Ted Hamilton. -There's a lot to be said for a film that just makes you laugh. -A lot of Jason's examples go completely over Sean's head. -Sean drops Casualty (1986-Present) trivia but gets his Grease (1978) trivia desperately wrong. -Sean gets distracted by The Batman (2022) once Jason brings it up. It's been a while. -Jason and Sean discuss World War Z (2013). -Sean ironically discusses editing. Raised Questions: -Do you believe film critics? -Did they get past introductions in the 80's? -Where do the Ninjas turn up? -How bad does this film look on paper? -This film got how many many Razzie nominations? -What does Jason think of the musical score, did it damage the film? -The self-awareness of the film? -What do critics want? -Are films with a long runtime necessary? -Is this film a perfect 'bad day' film? Random Recommendations: -Repo The Genetic Opera (2008). -House of Wax (2005). -Bottom (TV Series 1991-1995). -The Pope's Exorcist (2023). -Clue (1985). Trailer: FilmFloggers: www.filmfloggers.com Review It Yourself now has a Patreon! Choose from TWO memberships: -'Nowt Special' Side Series: This 'Nowt Special' tier gives you Exclusive Access to a (ANOTHER) side-series in which Sean watches older, classic films.... + other benefits. -Rewatch It Yourself: +All the benefits of the 'Nowt Special' tier PLUS -An even-more exclusive series, where Sean takes you through every Zombie film he owns (there's quite a few). The guys compared the move to the Village People song 'In The Navy.'
IN THE NAVY! YOU CAN SAIL THE SEVEN SEAS... Sean is joined by Nick from 'Let's Get Trashed' podcast. Nick is here to defend the under-rated Down Periscope (1996). Nick is faced with questions about when he first saw the film and what he thinks is the reason behind the film's poor-reception. Discussion Points: -Sean is disgusted this film is only 11% Rotten Tomatoes, further compounding his refusal to use the site in his podcast ever again. -The under-dog nature of the story. -The writing quality of present-day films. -Nick brings up superhero films. Random Questions: -Should you give command of a submarine to a man with a 'Welcome Aboard' tattoo? -Did the Navy popularise tattoos? -How bad is Jane Leeves accent in Frasier? -Have you ever mixed-up Rob Schneider and Roy Scheider? -Why are all the reviews from 4-8 years after the film was released? -Are you pro-Waterworld? -Do certain films get bad reputations? -How bad can Indiana Jones 5 be? -What happened to submarine films? Random Quotes: -"You do realise you're going to have to sit through some sh*t don't you?"-the realisation of the Defend It Yourself dawns. -"People from Manchester don't talk like that!" -"I like U-571, I mean historically it's horrific". -"But she's already dead what's the point?"-[How high does Sean's voice go]. Random Film Recommendations: -K-19: The Widowmaker (2002). -Coherence (2014). Definitely Not Recommended: -Geostorm (2017). Thanks for listening!

Miles Jaye , Discuss new album 'God's Creation, & new single ' He Makes It Better & His New Podcast MILES JAYE is one of the most captivating performers on the scene today. His signature voice is one of the best in the business and his "Red Rose" electric violin places him in a class and category all his own. Like his namesake MILES DAVIS - MILES JAYE is truly one of a kind. Early in his career, after returning from a 5 year stint in the U.S. Air Force band, the classically trained Jaye, served as sideman to songstress Phyllis Hyman, balladeer Jon Lucien and Jazz guitarist, Eric Gale on voice, violin, flute and piano touring the U.S. and Europe. Later he was signed as lead singing “Cop” for THE VILLAGE PEOPLE - the iconic pop group that brought you “YMCA,” “IN THE NAVY” and “MACHO MAN." JAYE has been joined on his own recordings by such notables as George Duke, Grover Washington, Jr., Roy Ayers, Nat Adderley, Jr., and Branford Marsalis but he is especially proud of writing and producing for his mentor, legendary R&B star Teddy Pendergrass on his certified Gold JOY CD. With 22 CD titles to his credit, the first three – MILES, IRRESISTIBLE and STRONG - released on Island Records featured the Billboard Top Ten hit singles – “Let’s Start Love Over” “Heaven” “Objective” featuring Grover Washington, Jr. and the soul classic “I’ve Been a Fool for You” - a favorite of adult radio formats nationwide.
Randy is the original cowboy for the hugely popular band from the 70's and 80's, the Village People. With hits like YMCA, In The Navy and Macho Man, The Village People became one of the biggest bands in the world during the late 70's. In this episode Randy talks about which relative inspired him to be an entertainer, as well as how a loin cloth and a chain belt got him the gig as the original Village People Cowboy. He also gives us some behind the scenes stories of those times at the Playboy mansion, what it was like filming the movie “Can’t Stop the Music” and the television show “The Love Boat”. Randy also tells us what Queen Elizabeth said to him when they met for the first time.
Come along, take a ride... down the road with us to relive 1.20- Deadmand's Blood. We deal with Sam's daddy issues, Dean's shortness and learn some interesting things about Vampires. We even make a little Vampire ditty to "In The Navy". Definitely a must listen!
This episode is going to be all about the K-Pop fandom scene. We talk about one of my favorite K-Pop artists, Mamamoo, and their fandom, the Moomoos, and the issues that the artist and the fandom collectively face, as well as how does this reflect to the K-Pop fandom culture today. We get right into this here IN THE NAVY.

They mastered the straightman/clown relationship, creating a magical chemistry that would take them from the burlesque stage to radio to broadway to film and finally, to television Born William Alexander Abbott on October 6, 1897 in Asbury Park, N.J., Bud became one of the most sought after and polished straightmen on the burlesque circuit. It was here that he met his future partner, Louis Francis Cristillo, born on March 6, 1906 in Paterson, N.J. Their official teaming was in 1936. Although they became a popular booking commodity on the burlesque wheel, it wasn't until they appeared on the KATE SMITH RADIO HOUR, performing what would soon become known as their classic signature skit, "Who's On First," that Bud Abbott & Lou Costello were hurled to stardom, and to Hollywood. Signed to Universal in 1939, Abbott & Costello reigned as the new "Kings Of Comedy," producing a solid decade of box office hits as: "Buck Privates;" "In The Navy;" "Hold That Ghost;" "Naughty Nineties;" "Time Of Their Lives;" and their 1948 monster classic, "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein." Today, that film remains a favorite among fans, as well as an international cult masterpiece. Bud and Lou's style and brand of comedy helped lift the morale of the American public during World War II.

Bud and Lou's style and brand of comedy helped lift the morale of the American public during World War II. Eager to lend their time to the war effort, the boys funded (out-of-pocket) a cross-country tour to help raise much needed funds on behalf of the War Bond Drive. Everywhere they appeared there were sell-out audiences. They were honored on the steps of New York's City Hall by Mayor Furiello LaGuardia for raising a record-breaking 89 million in just three days
