This week, to celebrate the 100th episode of My Weekly Mixtape, I am creating The Ultimate Mixtape by asking 65 different people (previous My Weekly Mixtape guests, friends of the show & the amazing Patreon Mixtapers) the same question: If you had to choose one song for the ultimate mixtape (any song / any genre), that would be locked away in a time capsule for others to discover years or decades for now…which song would you choose and why?  Now, I'm not lost on the fact that the question is just a spin on the “desert island song” question that a lot of my guests have been asked countless times. The twist for the next few episodes is: I am taking those 65 song choices (all of which are from various bands, artists, decades, genres and tempos), and curating them into what I hope will be a properly sequenced playlist from a musical perspective!  At the very least? This was a fun & unique twist on a question as old as interviews themselves. But at its best? Congratulations, you're listening to The Ultimate Mixtape!!  This ep. includes the final 25 responses! Be sure to also check out Volume's 1 & 2 to get the full experience!   Guests appearing in Vol. 3 (in no particular order): Guy Fletcher of Dire Straits, Joe Bonamassa, Desmond Child, Ed Toth of The Doobie Brothers, Walter Trout, Todd Park Mohr of Big Head Todd & The Monsters, Nick Niespodziani & Peter Olson of Yacht Rock Revue, Billy Sheehan of Mr. Big, Kevin “Sonny” Gullage, Emily Wolfe, Jax Hollow, Sean Faust, Wolfgang Valbrun, Carrie Cunningham, Jesse Jackson of Set Lusting Bruce, Eric Senich of the Van Halen News Desk / Booked on Rock Podcast, Jessica Ann Catena of Music Notes With Jess, Bobby Schultz of Effin' Cultured, Mac Wolf of The Ugly American Werewolf In London Rock Podcast, Jason Whissell of It's Not That Bad & There Can Only Be One Podcasts, friends of the show Jimmy Mitchell & Bob Spear, two more incredible Patreon Mixtapers: David Lee Smith & Philip Bergman, and last (but certainly not least!) a guest appearance from Paul Williams! Could Chris Farley's endless charm and David Spade's dry wit save this messy script? Or is this a Wolf in Black Sheep's clothing?

Gossip in the Church: SummaryWhen it comes to gossip in the church, keeping confidences helps develop healthy relationships and provides a safe space. IntroductionRead Philippians 2:1-11. Keeping a confidence allows people to grow to trust you. On the other hand, if you're known as someone who talks about other people behind their backs, they're unlikely to ever trust you. Gossip in the Church: It's Not That Bad, Is It?Gossip is often seen as one of those “lesser sins”. After all, it's not really as bad as murder or sexual immorality, is it? God says it is. And he's very wise. He can see how gossip can destroy relationships. I've seen it break relationships between Christians and even threaten to break apart churches or Salvation Army corps. Gossip makes us feel better or more important than the person we're talking about. If you talk about someone's difficulties or problems we can forget about our own. We try to impress others or think of ourselves as better than others. That's not the way of Jesus. How To Deal with Gossip in the ChurchWhen it comes to gossip in the church, keeping confidences, keeping what you know to yourself helps develop healthy and genuine relationships and provides a safe space for people to open up and be vulnerable about the hurts and problems they are facing. Will you help deepen relationships in this way? Think It OverThink about the following: Has anyone ever gossiped about you? How did it make you feel? Hello Sailor! Jason from 'It's Not That Bad' podcast jumps onboard the 'Defend It Yourself' ship to review The Pirate Movie (1982), an Australian musical romantic comedy loosely based on The Pirates of Penzance. "Think Pirates of the Caribbean crossed with YMCA's 'In The Navy', throw a bit of Baywatch in there, a bit of Grease, a bit of Grease 2, the non-shark bits of Jaws and the dreamlike quality of Scrubs and you're about halfway there". My Guest: "It's the show that does its best to defend the unfairly maligned movies, to find the silver linings in the films deemed “less than great”. Every week, host Jason Whissell is joined by a guest to discuss a movie that has been poorly rated by the critics or by the fans" , description from their website: https://notthatbadcast.com/home/ Discussion Points: -Bus stops advertisements. -Taking the context and the time that the film was made into account when watching the film. -The Pirate King and his fantastic lines, played charmingly by Ted Hamilton. -There's a lot to be said for a film that just makes you laugh. -A lot of Jason's examples go completely over Sean's head. -Sean drops Casualty (1986-Present) trivia but gets his Grease (1978) trivia desperately wrong. -Sean gets distracted by The Batman (2022) once Jason brings it up. It's been a while. -Jason and Sean discuss World War Z (2013). -Sean ironically discusses editing. Raised Questions: -Do you believe film critics? -Did they get past introductions in the 80's? -Where do the Ninjas turn up? -How bad does this film look on paper? -This film got how many many Razzie nominations? -What does Jason think of the musical score, did it damage the film? -The self-awareness of the film? -What do critics want? -Are films with a long runtime necessary? -Is this film a perfect 'bad day' film? Random Recommendations: -Repo The Genetic Opera (2008). -House of Wax (2005). -Bottom (TV Series 1991-1995). -The Pope's Exorcist (2023). -Clue (1985). Trailer: FilmFloggers: www.filmfloggers.com Review It Yourself now has a Patreon! We're on break, creating all new episodes for season 3. In the meantime, here's one of our favorite episodes from the past year. See you soon.   “Getting people to feel angry with me makes me feel less alone, less helpless. (It) makes me feel like, okay, there's a whole team of us. We're all gonna do it.” - Writer and illustrator, Aubrey Hirsch    The world is such a hot mess: every day a new disaster, a new human rights catastrophe. It can just feel… endless. Illustrator Aubrey Hirsch joins us to talk about outrage and trauma and community building - it's like the greatest hits of modern culture. But mostly, she joins us to talk about art - specifically, the ways that storytelling helps us band together and work towards the world we all want.    PS: Listen all the way through so you don't miss Aubrey's slightly sinister but ultimately functional ideas on hope.  In this episode we cover:  The relationship between rage and creation: when there's so much wrong with the world all you can do is scream Why taking action to change things matters - even if your actions won't save everyone Women and anger: hoo boy, it's a whole thing.  Why healing inside trauma is actually kind of… boring.  Connecting through the power of storytelling   Click here for the episode webpage. Notable quotes:  “I feel very helpless and I don't wanna feel like that because I know that to be f*cked is a spectrum and we can be more f*cked than we are now or less f*cked. It's not a binary. I want us to move in the right direction (less f*cked),  and I want to be a part of that movement - even if my action comes too late for some.” - Aubrey Hirsch About our guest: Aubrey Hirsch is the author of Why We Never Talk About Sugar, a collection of short stories, and This Will Be His Legacy, a flash fiction chapbook. Her stories, essays and comics have appeared widely in print and online in places like American Short Fiction, Vox, TIME, The New York Times, The Rumpus, The Toast, and in the New York Times bestselling anthology, Not That Bad. Her essay on trauma and surviving gun violence is a must read. Find it here.    Additional resources Aubrey occasionally teaches comics for “non-artists.” Check her TW @aubreyhirsch for announcements. She publishes new comics and essays on Roxane Gay's substack, The Audacity.    Aubrey's written on so many topics relevant to human life. i’ve been listening to music as it’s released or comes into my life. i have a very long queue of things to listen to. some years ago i calculated that it would take me six years to get to the point where i’m listening to music as it comes out. this was assuming that each week i’d be listening to 50 albums and only adding 30 albums to the queue. but it seems like i’ve be listening at a slower rate and accumulating at a faster rate. i spent most of the past few years getting through maybe 30 albums each week, and accumulating more like 50. the reverse. hmmm. this means i won’t ever catch up ever ever.i’ll work on the new estimates for next week!DOWNLOAD/STREAM RECORDING00:00 (intro by omar)00:20 First Base “Eastchester Avenue” Not That Bad02:25 Serpent Season “Hearing Voices” The Sky is Alive with Dying Stars04:40 Jay Som “Peace Out” Anak Ko08:57 Bill Baird “Heart’s Got a Hole” Refractions11:50 Boothe “walk step” 8 or 9 walled room12:19 CD-ROM “FIRE” THE NEW PROGRAM16:22 queer choir “idc if it was 2 years ago” sketchbook of songs17:47 Special Moves “No Guarantees” Split w/ Yeehaw Junction20:33 Yeehaw Junction “Needy” Split w/ Special Moves24:03 erin tanner “a dog nap” a dog told me what to do25:29 When Nalda became punk “Long before” Those words broke our hearts28:34 Oh, Rose “Easy” While My Father Sleeps31:05 FRITZ “YUK!” FRITZ33:34 So Cow “Now That I Am 36” Do Re Mi Fa So Cow36:40 Chiffres “purple” static rainbow39:43 Emmerson & Her Clammy Hands “On My Mind” Crazy 4 Love43:50 Slam Dunk “EZ2C” In Hell45:33 ghostplay “Too Much” 3349:51 Bellhoss “geraniums #2” geraniums54:32 No Sister “Pacific” Influence58:40 Was “Falling Out” WAS 260:12 Mallwalkers “It’s Time” Shake the Rust Off61:49 little cake n jack toft “life is rly ez” little cake n jack toft demo tape63:24 unlimited guests “runners guide” the secret64:16 The Living Eyes “Peak Hour Traffic” Peak Hour Traffic 7"66:38 Boys Age “Good Yesterdays” Initiate - Very Best of Boys Age Vol.269:40 Carla dal Forno “Blue Morning” Top of the Pops72:18 Spud Cannon “Runaway Strays” Squeeze74:51 Jungle Green “Happiness” Runaway With Jungle Green78:10 Plunk 67 “Video Game” Therapy80:12 Ghost Orchard “puppy” Bunny82:09 Philippa Zang “damn, strange” pothole diaries84:02 Lina Tullgren “Free Cell” Free Cell

Connecting through the power of storytelling Notable quotes:  “I feel very helpless and I don't wanna feel like that because I know that to be f*cked is a spectrum and we can be more f*cked than we are now or less f*cked. This candid and forthright conversation is a perfect mid-Pride month story to show each of us how we tend forget the trials and tribulations we all face for the things that make us, us, and that others tend to find the most reason to hate about us. Momenteel is Tolentino staff writer voor The New Yorker. Ze schrijft recensies, interviews en sociaal commentaar.  Rebecca wie? Roxane hoe? Hara meest recente boek is Not That Bad (2018), waarin verschillende schrijvers vertellen over hun ervaringen met seksueel overschrijdend gedrag.

Miriam then shares the three core areas where her current research is focusing that she sees as possible solutions for safer pregnancy outcomes for women of color. After you listen to the episode, be sure to watch Miriam’s TED Talk and check out her podcast and all the amazing and important resources on her website.
