He's back! The man behind the mask! Friday the 13th is keeping us busy this year with two in two months and another on the way. This time we're taking a look at 1986's Jason Lives, the movie that canned the original plan to have Tommy Jarvis take up the machete and establishes Jason Voorhees as a lumbering, unstoppable killing machine from beyond the grave! In this movie Tommy Jarvis skips the mental hospital he's been confined at to return to Crystal Lake, since renamed to Forest Green in order to shake its horrible reputation. His mission: dig up the body of Jason Voorhees, who has haunted him since he was a little kid, and make sure that he's dead. But when Tommy's obsession overlaps with an electrical storm, a bolt of lightning strikes the body of Jason and brings him back from the grave once again to kill everyone in sight. Now it's up to Tommy to face his fears and put Jason back in the ground for good. When A New Beginning hit theaters it did characteristically well in box office but faced a significant problem with fans: They hated the new direction. They came for Jason and they left with Tommy and everyone hated it. So Frank Mancuso Jr., now a little preoccupied with his War of the Worlds and Friday the 13th TV shows, left the entire project in the hands of writer and director Tom McLoughlin with one clear directive: Do whatever you want but bring back Jason. Jag och Heidenhammer ger oss i kast med de litterära mästerverken Jason Lives och Jason Goes To Hell. Fast ärligt talat mest Jason Lives.
The Friday the 13th movie series is one of the top slasher movie franchises of the 1980s and beyond, so this week the Junkies take a look at Jason Voorhees, the unkillable movie monster with the staggeringly high body count who has been to camp, to hell, to outer space and has battled Freddy Krueger. The Junkies look at all 12 (not 13?) movies in the series so far, compare Jason to the other unstoppable slashers who made it big in the 1980s, Halloween's Michael Myers and Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy, and figure out which of the three they could fend off if they ever found themselves having to choose one. Then the Junkies look to the future with Jason, and the newly-formed Jason Universe that could bring us that elusive 13th movie in the series - and more. An in-depth review of the final movie in the Jarvis trilogy, Friday the 13th- Part 6: Jason Lives.
Noel catches up with Thom Mathews. The actor is best known for his roles as Tommy Jarvis in Friday The 13th Part 6: Jason Lives and Freddy in Return of The Living Dead. The zombie classic is celebrating its 40th anniversary. Thom discusses the movie's legacy and working with the late great James Karen. They both appeared in the sequel in different roles. Friday The 13th's Tommy Jarvis has lived on in different formats, Friday The 13th The Video Game and in the Never Hike Alone fan film movie series. Thom talks about how he got involved in the project.
We take a look at two Thom Mathews films for this week's episodes. First up, he returns to the Return Of The Living Dead franchise in RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD PART II and finds out if he indeed does like this job. Then, he accidentally brings Jason back to life in FRIDAY THE 13th PART 6: JASON LIVES and becomes responsible for all the deaths that follow in all the sequels.

Welcome back, campers! Grab your machetes, hide your chocolate bars, and definitely don't wander off alone into the woods, because in this week's episode we're diving headfirst into one of the weirdest and most controversial entries in the Friday the 13th franchise: Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning. That's right—Jason Voorhees is dead (allegedly), but that doesn't mean the body count is slowing down. In fact, the only thing multiplying faster than the kills in this movie is the confusion over who's actually doing the killing. Spoiler: it's not who you think… and also not who you want it to be.This episode, we're strapping on our camp counselor whistles and taking you on a tour through the asylum of Tommy Jarvis's post-trauma psyche. Poor Tommy just wanted a little peace and quiet, but instead he gets a halfway house full of characters who feel like they wandered in from completely different movies: there's the leather-clad greasers who look like they took a wrong turn out of Grease 2, the random angry redneck mom screaming at her son to shovel chicken slop, and of course the infamous chocolate-bar-swinging Joey who manages to meet one of the most absurdly brutal fates in horror history. We break it all down—every bizarre subplot, every head-scratching creative choice, and every death scene that makes you go, “Wait, why did that just happen?”But don't worry, we're not just roasting this movie (though it deserves a good roasting). We're also giving it its due credit: the kills are plentiful, the sleaze is cranked up to eleven, and there's a weird charm in its chaotic energy. From garden shears to road flares, Part V is basically a slasher smorgasbord where no weapon is off-limits. We even get one of the most outrageous outhouse scenes in horror history—seriously, has there ever been a scarier place to sing along to yourself while doing your business? Probably not.And then, of course, there's the big reveal: the “mystery killer.” Was anyone buying it? Did anyone walk out of the theater thinking, “Wow, what a satisfying twist!” Or was it more like, “Wait, who the hell was that guy again?” We'll talk about the Scooby-Doo-level unmasking, why fans at the time were furious, and whether or not Friday the 13th really needed a “new beginning” that turned out to be more like a weird detour. Throughout the episode, we sprinkle in some laughs, some chills, and some genuine appreciation for this much-maligned entry. Because here's the thing: while A New Beginning might not have Jason in it (unless you count dream sequences and hallucinations), it's still a fascinating time capsule of mid-80s slasher excess. The film is sleazy, cheesy, over-the-top, and occasionally so bad it circles back around to being good. And really, isn't that what we love about horror in the first place? So tune in as we unpack the madness. We'll share our favorite kills, our least favorite characters (sorry, Joey), and even debate whether this movie would have been better if Jason had been resurrected in true supernatural fashion. We'll also touch on how Part V paved the way for the next chapter (Jason Lives), where the franchise finally embraced its undead campfire legend status. In the end, A New Beginning may not be the most beloved Friday installment, but it's definitely one of the most unforgettable—and we had a blast hacking our way through it.So grab your sleeping bag, keep your eyes peeled for ambulance drivers with suspicious motives, and join us around the campfire (or maybe just the nearest porta-potty) as we relive the madness of Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning. Remember: in the woods, no one can hear you scream… but they can definitely hear you singing in the outhouse.

This week on Friday Night Frightfest, we're diving into the late-stage slasher sequels, comparing two sixth entries that took their respective franchises in wildly different directions. We're pitting Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986) against A Nightmare on Elm Street 6: Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991). Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986) Directed by Tom McLoughlin, Jason Lives marks a significant shift for the Friday the 13th series. After a brief hiatus, Jason returns, but this time, he's a resurrected, supernatural force of nature. This entry leans heavily into self-aware humor and action-oriented set pieces, giving us a more playful, albeit still violent, take on the iconic killer. A Nightmare on Elm Street 6: Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) Directed by Rachel Talalay, Freddy's Dead attempts to wrap up the Nightmare on Elm Street saga with a surreal and cartoonish finale. This film delves into Freddy's origins, revealing his childhood and the source of his evil. It's known for its over-the-top special effects, bizarre dream sequences, and a generally more comedic tone than previous entries. Join us as we dissect these two films, exploring how they attempted to revitalize their franchises, the impact of their tonal shifts, and whether they succeeded in delivering satisfying sequels. Spoilers start around 5:50.

Happy Friday the 13th! It's the 6th one already!
Happy Friday the 13th. Jason's back because someone decided to dig him up during a thunderstorm. We're talking about Friday the 13th part 6: Jason Lives.
We kick things off with a cold open and a dash of humor before diving into the heart of the show. We discuss the long-form content that often turns into non sequiturs, followed by the latest home video headlines, including Netflix's upcoming animated series In Case of Emergency set in a British hospital and the surprising renewal of Billy the Kid for its third and final season. Moving on to our main feature, we explore Jason Lives (Friday the 13th Part 6), where Tommy Jarvis unwittingly resurrects Jason Voorhees while trying to cremate his remains. With recurring themes and characters, we touch on the film's influence, notable trivia, and why this installment stands out in the franchise. Highlights include the director's clever nods to other horror films and the unique kills that make you actually care about the characters. Additionally, we react to They Live, a John Carpenter classic, discussing its themes of artificial consciousness and subliminal messaging in the context of our current media landscape. Lastly, I introduce my rating system: Binge Now, Binge Later, and Binge Never. Spoiler alert: Jason Lives gets a solid Binge Now from me!
