In this episode, we once again bring our listeners the latest in the podcasting industry, speaking to Jay Soderberg, aka PodVader, about podcasting networks. Jay is the Executive Producer of the Locked On Podcast Network and co-host of Always Listening with Joel Sharpton. Before you start promoting your show, how do you know if it's good? How do you know if it will connect with your audience? Ready to Start Podcasting? Imagine you want to start a lawn mowing business and the only way you know how to cut the grass is one blade at a time. That's how I felt about my podcast until the coaching session I had last night with Dave Jackson. I'm Zita Christian host of Ritual Recipes. A podcast filled with practical magic to nourish your inner life. I had a coaching session with Dave Jackson last night. He used a screen sharing technique to walk me through the problems I had with my podcast and with my gear and with my website. I am not technically savvy, and that's putting it mildly. But with Dave, that's not a problem. The man is a born teacher. His approach is clear. His attitude is always encouraging and above all, and at least for me, he's patient. So I asked you do you want to start a podcast? Do you want to fix the one you have? If you answered yes to either one. Get the kind of help that will make a difference. Work with Dave Jackson. Give your podcast a real chance to succeed. Zita Christian Ritual Recipes moonriverrituals.com How Do You Know Your Show is Good? According to Jay Soderberg, great content contains the "Three E's" Entertain, Educate, and Emotional (leads to engagement). I've always said contact that you can't get any place else is always a boost (which I guess would fit in under educational) I posed this question to a few people: Participants Jay "Podvader" Soderberg from Next Fan Up Jayson Sacco: The Ankylosing Spondylitis Podcast Lee Silverstein: We Have Cancer Andrea Klunder: The Creative Impostor Natalie Eckdahl: Biz Chix Super Joe Pardo: Business with Super Joe Pardo David Steele: Steele Empire Gene Monterastelli: Tapping Q and A Podcast Jeremy Ends: Podcast Powerpack Darwyn Dave: Dealing with My Grief You NEED to connect with your audience wherever they are. Quit staring at the Apple podcast charts and focus on your audience (which leads to you moving into the charts if done consistently). Realize what works for one podcast does not mean this will work for your show, so you may need the courage to try something new. Natalie uses coaching calls as part of her show. Lee changed the name of his show from The Colon Cancer Podcast to "We Have podcast." Gene and Natalie have VERY SPECIFIC ideas of who they want listening, and how they will gauge success (and it has nothing to do with rankings and reviews). Jeremy has helped clients who are happy they tried surveys. Andrea helps people define who their target audience is. When you know who your target audience is, and you understand the goal of your show, you can start to chart a path between the two. Mentioned in this podcast Google Forms Type Form

Host Cyrus Webb welcomes podcaster and VP of Blogtalkradio Jay Soderberg to #ConversationsLIVE to discuss his own path to broadcasting and what it's been like to see how Blogtalkradio has become the leading platform for podcasters of all levels.
Jay Soderberg has been a podcaster since 2005. He was a producer at ESPN and his boss ordered him to become the resident podcasting maven. Not having a choice in the matter, Jay took to the challenge with the passion and intensity he's know for. Now he works for Voxnest, a company which recently acquired Blogtalkradio and Spreaker. He's now working with 10's of thousands of podcasters around the world. The company will be releasing an ad insertion tool that will work with other podcast server sites and allow individuals to monetize their shows. Jay has followed the careers of many well know podcasters and believes that passion is the driver. Knowing your audience and how to communicate with them will go a long ways towards success, but you've got to learn the craft and live it. Podcasting keeps getting more popular and as smartphone automobile integration continues to advance, so will growth. There's a lot more growth coming down the pike.

Jay Soderberg, a.k.a. PodVader, emerged from the radio broadcasting world and is now fully immersed in podcasting. He’s been the Head of Content at BlogTalkRadio since 2014 and previously worked at ESPN for 16 years, spending his last eight years there as the lead producer for all their podcasts. He is the host and founder of the Next Fan Up podcast and a big champion for independent podcasters. As Jay puts it, he’s “fighting for the little guy” so they all have a seat at the table when podcasting becomes too big for the world to ignore. Fortunately, BlogTalkRadio helps him advance this narrative by helping podcasters get better at what they do, grow their audience, and monetize their shows. I’m happy Jay entered the podcasting arena and confident that the future of podcasting will be better off because of him. 07:01 - How he got the name, ‘PodVader’ 09:00 - How he’s seen podcasting explode and the corporate vs the independent podcast 10:33 - What got him into podcasting and who influenced him early on 13:53 - Eric Hutchinson’s theme song for the Fantasy Focus podcast 15:06 - The Coke Zero campaign 17:10 - How the audience driven Coke Zero ad got started 19:19 - Matthew Berry’s background and podcasting experience 22:42 - The “It” factor - what makes a great podcast 25:13 - His love of radio, the “Lego Tapes” and his desire to become a radio broadcaster 32:15 - Can radio and podcasting co-exist? 34:37 - Adam Curry’s Podcaster Pro audio device 39:49 - His time at ESPN and working for Andy Toh at Blog Talk Radio 41:38 - Andy Toh as the Bill Belichick of podcasting 44:30 - What does Blog Talk Radio do and how can it help podcasters? 52:58 - Host read ads on Blog Talk Radio 01:05:06 - The one most misunderstood thing about him 01:05:58 - What he’s changed his mind about recently Full Show Notes: http://podcastjunkies.com/jay-soderberg-interview★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

The Sports Gal Pal, Ramona Rice, is joined by her podcasting mentor Jay Soderberg (aka the Podvader) but Jay brought along his wife Benay (Queen Podme) to the show as well. They had a frank conversation about balancing real life with the love of sports and how marriage is work. Here are some of the highlights: Queen Podme does not share Podvader's obession of the New England Patriots She does recognize that Podvader has influenced their kids in sports but mainly positive She uses Sunday football days as days to still spend as a family - despite not wanting to actively watch football Podvader and the Sports Gal Pal also discuss some upcoming events on Blog Talk Radio - including her two-a-day series with all of Podvader's Next Fan Up Superfans. Also, the Sports Gal Pal talks about why kids growing up is a good and bad thing (the moms will totally get it) and why the Little League World Series is worth watching.
