Former United States Navy SEALKevin Lacz served two tours in 2006 in Ramadi, Iraq. He is a decorated veteran, writer, actor, physician assistant. Originally from New England and a loyal Patriots, Red Sox and Bruins fan, he currently lives with his wife Lindsey and their two kids in the panhandle of Florida.Kevin is also a creative guy who found himself taking on a few roles in the movie world, notably playing himself (Dauber) in Clint Eastwood's adaptation of the Chris Kyle autobiography American Sniper. And in 2016 he wrote his own memoir, The Last Punisher about his experience in Ramadi during those day with Chris Kyle, Jonny Kim, Ryan Job, Jocko Willink, Mike Monsoor, and Marc Alan Lee, who he talks about during this interview, a colleague and friend who was both compassionate and as tough as they come. Kevin talks about the truly challenging nature of transitioning back home to civilian life, and that for SEALS and other Special Operators, there can be a real sense of respect, control and belonging that is profound – And when back home, it's huge change – It's about redefining one's self and finding new passions, new meaning. He just published a book called The Veteran's Workbook, about how to transition back to the work force post military, along with Bill Hobbs and his wife Lindsey Lacz that connects to that concept of belonging. He and Lindsey and their kids live in Florida, actively shuttling back and forth to scouts and gymnastics and busy. They also run Hunting For Healing, a charitable organization that brings disabled veterans hunting, fishing and outdoor activity, and reconnecting with each other and family.Note: News clip source: Rep.

Kevin Lacz is a former SEAL Team THREE sniper, breacher, and combat medic. He joins the show to chat about his experiences as a SEAL, how he's applying those lessons in his life today, taking risks, and his book, The Last Punisher.   Being a SEAL taught Kevin important lessons about casting a vision, developing a strategy, and taking advantage of opportunity – lessons that are just as important on civilian life as they are in military life.   “You can't win the game if you're sitting on the sidelines. You need to be active and proactive.” Opportunities don't wait for you take action. Although you need to take action, you shouldn't do so prematurely. We all want things to happen quickly, but you can't get ahead of the ball – especially when you are working with other people. Everybody has a limit. It's okay to tactically pull back and wait for a better time, and it's important to understand where your limits are.   Being a SEAL was an important part of Kevin's life, but it isn't what defines him – “I don't want to be defined as just a SEAL. I want to be able to be a positive force in every part of my community. I think that's necessary for my peace of mind, and as an example to my kids.”   So take these lessons to heart, get off the bench, and start making an impact in your community – and pick up a copy of The Last Punisher if you need any more inspiration. Anyone can be a force of positivity in this world. --   Resources: Learn more at http://kevinlacz.com/ (KevinLacz.com) Connect with Kevin: Facebook | Instagram --   We are brought to you by the Lawton Marketing Group, a full service advertising and design agency serving companies and entrepreneurs at all levels. GRP 82-Today marks the 12th anniversary of Operation Red Wings with what was at the time the worst loss of life for American forces in Afghanistan, and the worse loss of life for Naval Special Warfare in their storied history. Back on the podcast is retired U.S. Navy SEAL and New York Times bestselling author Kevin Lacz. Kevin is trained as Corpsman (Medic) and a Sniper. This places Kevin and those like him on opposite ends of the spectrum of combat arms in taking life on the battlefield and saving it. Chantel Taylor the co-host of the show served as a Combat Medic in the British Army. During a tour in southern Afghanistan, a convoy she was traveling in was ambushed. In the ensuing battle, Chantel became the first British woman in history to kill an enemy in close quarters. We talked about the psychology of killing in combat which Kevin touched on in his book. Below is an excerpt from the podcast: Kevin Lacz: I read "On Killing" prior to my first deployment. It made a mark in the back of mind. At the end of that first deployment, I was like ok I fall in that 2 percent crowd that can conduct business and keep going without the psychological and physiological changes that are experienced by most. In most memoirs, you won't read about how killing effects you. Most people just write about being a tough guy, but there hasn't been much of a psychological approach of having gone through combat and how it affects you. How you sleep at night. It's important to read about how you put your feet in front of you as you walk down the street, but also what you're thinking when you're about to squeeze the trigger and you have someone in the crosshairs. Also then 10, 20, 30 seconds, 10 mins, or even 3 years later how you react to that situation. That's what drives people to dig deeper and read more.
