1985's The Goonies. This week we're diving into The Goonies—that beloved treasure hunt where children evade felons, booby traps, and adult supervision like it's an Olympic sport. But does this 80s classic still sparkle like One-Eyed Willy's jewels, or is it just a messy map of fat jokes, yelling, and questionable parenting? Join us as we truffle shuffle our way through nostalgia, peril, and at least one unnecessary Rube Goldberg machine. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

So long, Astoria. Jodie and Andrea watched “How the Story Ends” episode nine of season three of Yellowjackets. Let's get into it.In the wilderness, Travis is setting booty traps. Hannah feels like she's babysitting, except she's not getting paid. And Kodiak gets his One-Eyed Willy on. In the present, it's our time down here (i.e. Virginia). Shauna's in the clouds and Tai is in a basement. And Walter's voice is kind of nice when his mouth isn't screwing it up.Yellowjackets Season 3 Interview: Liv Hewson - "Van Palmer, You Mean the World to Me"If you're reading this, that means you've probably got your podcatcher of choice open right now. THE CITY AND environs of Astoria strike most visitors as the kind of place where pirate loot might be stashed away. Certainly it seems to have struck Steven Spielberg that way, back in the early 1980s, when the legendary pirate-treasure film The Goonies was being shot. But the town may actually have come by this impression honestly. There are still a few stories about hidden treasure in and around Astoria -- not counting the silver-screen “Goon Docks” story of “One-Eyed Willy.” And who knows? One or two of them may actually be true. (Astoria, Clatsop County; 1890s, 1920s) (For text and pictures, see https://offbeatoregon.com/21-10.astoria-treasure-legends-602.html)
The search for buried treasure has been the traditional quest for humanity for over 500 centuries. It was a promise of a hoard of pirate gold that could save their town from Yuppie Greed that lured Mike “Mikey” Walsh, Richard “Data” Wang, Clark "Mouth" Devereaux, and Lawrence “Chunk” Cohen to gather for a final weekend together, in search of One-Eyed Willy's treasure in the 1985 classic, The Goonies. And my friends it is our topic for today. Amanda takes us on a treasure hunting journey with the history, how it's evolved through the times, and actual found and unfound treasures. Our Wacky World News somewhat ties into this as a British philanthropist makes a from the grave roast at the art gallery he funded a wing for. Hey you guys! In this special episode, Todd and Charles interview Behman Zarkeri, the new owner of a little landmark in Astoria, Oregon known as the Goonies House! Behman fills us in on what it's like to own this historical movie mecca, why he bought it, who among the cast he's been in touch with, and what his plans are for it. If you are a Goonies fan, an 80's movie fan, or an Astoria, OR fan, tune in and take a listen. The Zarkeri family has a great vision for what he wants to do with the place and details what is coming up for the Goondocks. One-Eyed Willy says to like, subscribe, comment and share, or he won't share any of his treasure with you!
This week we're traveling to the Goon Docks to join up with Mikey, Brand, Chunk, Mouth and the others to look for an elusive, possibly life saving treasure. Much like our gang of outcast children, Dave, Rob and Kurt will go on their own adventure this week looking at the 1985, all time classic, The Goonies. The gang will try to remember all of the great memories and nostalgia this movie stirs up in Gen X and early millennial kids, and possibly enjoy a Baby Ruth or two along the way. So let's cross some rickety bridges, avoid deadly traps and get the hell away from the Fratelli's on a quest to steal some old pirate's booty, and let's be honest, One Eyed Willy's not going to know if you take some of that gold. Jared takes the guys back to the glory days of the mid 80's with the epic adventure to find One-Eyed Willy, The Goonies.
November's theme of COMFORT FOOD has got us chugging nostalgia straight out of the gravy boat. Every Monday this month we're talking about a formidable movie from our youth and this one hits that sweet spot for both hosts. You've probably heard everyone between the ages of 36 and 46 quoting the hell out of this movie. If you're one of our children then we've definitely forced you to watch it at some point. Sloth loves Chunk. We all know this. How will our tired adult eyes and damaged adult brains take in Richard Donner's beloved 1985 kids adventure romp? We're speaking of “THE GOONIES”, of course, and it stars a whole mess of 80s kid actors you've come to either love or gawk at. It had that catchy Cyndi Lauper song come out for it. Can the Goonies navigate felons and traps to find the treasure of the original Pirate Goonie known as One Eyed-Willy or will they lose their neighborhood forever? How the hell can an entire neighborhood just foreclose at once? Who does Troy's dad work for to have this much power to get away with doing such things? We got some theories on that. The story is kind of strange but the adventure still feels fun. Hear us tell it. Jordan and Heigl dive into this beloved ‘80s adventure classic — and you don't have to do the Truffle Shuffle to listen! They'll tell you all about Spielberg's secret role as unofficial co-director, the authentic blood and skulls used for props, and the real-life shipwreck that inspired the legend of One-Eyed Willy — plus Sloth's nightmarish makeup prosthetics that nearly electrocuted him. They'll also explain the crazy connections between The Goonies, Gremlins and Back to the Future, the onset feud between Corey Feldman and Martha Plimpton, the prank war between the Fratelli brothers, the time Michael Jackson visited the set (it got weird), and the lost subplot involving escaped gorillas. You'll also learn how a bout of chickenpox almost cheated us out of Jeff Cohen's hilarious performance as Chunk, how the production crew built — and destroyed — a full-sized pirate ship, and how Alice Cooper crashed the epic cast party.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The threat of being disbanded looms over The Goonies, a group of misfits from a middle class neighborhood on the brink of foreclosure. In a classic us vs the rich story, the group only has 24hrs before the bank seizes their homes to expand the local country club, and thus must embark on a hail mary adventure to save their stomping grounds. Can The Goonies uncover the boobytrapped fortune hidden by One-Eyed Willy, a pirate legend, or will a malicious family of counterfeiters stop them dead in their tracks.

In 1985, Steven Spielberg, Richard Donner, and Chris Columbus teamed up to make a movie: The Goonies. That's it. That's the intro. The movie was, needless to say, a major hit, and a childhood-defining one for many ‘80s kids - but not Lobster! Starring Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Jonathan Ke Huy Quan, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, and John Matuszak, with Anne Ramsey, Robert Davi, and Joey Pants, the film was selected into the National Film Registry in 2017 for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant,” and one of the many inspirations for Stranger Things. Now we're joining the search for One-Eyed Willy's buried treasure and staying one step ahead of the Fratelli crime family with The Goonies. (Astoria, Clatsop County; 1890s, 1920s) (For text and pictures, see http://offbeatoregon.com/21-10.astoria-treasure-legends-602.html)

In the first of two episodes going back to the 80's, the team tackles The Goonies: Never Say Die. As Goonmaster, Reverend D guided the team through the first scenario of the game, giving Couch James a much needed break from running a game. Did our team win? And were they successful in finding One Eyed Willy's treasure? D also gives a brief update on his adventures at SNAFU con and an intriguing game involving flipping a table.Quick warning: while this episode is mark explicit, it is due to the repeated use of the term for anatomy in discussion of a famous scene/prop from the Goonies movie. You have been warned.

A bit of a somber occasion as a remembrance of the great Norm MacDonald who passed away recently with a review of a brilliant film, "Dirty Work" with the wonderful Raylene Lightheart. Dirty Work is a 1998 American comedy film starring Norm Macdonald, Artie Lange, Jack Warden, and Traylor Howard and directed by Bob Saget. It flopped at the box office, but has since gained a cult following. While not a great film this will be more of a celebration of Norm and his body of work from calling out the Clintons on the View, his Conan appearances, and of course the original fake news on Weekend Update where he went after OJ hard and told us how murder was now legal in California. Whatever happens, I blame Frank Stallone. Join us next week as Raylene, if she's willing, will join us again for a review of “The Goonies” which is prompted by me actually being in the area where it was filmed. I'll be sure to say hi to One-Eyed Willy for ya. Show Notes: http://www.lastnighters.com/196 Reel Unconventional Film Analysis. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter. We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film.
