Esta madrugada, dos alcaldes han compartido espacio en El Faro: Abel Caballero, que este año cumple 18 años al frente del Ayuntamiento de Vigo; y Gael Rodríguez, el alcalde más joven de España, que fue elegido edil de su pueblo, Portbou, el mismo día que votó por primera vez. Si existe un programa capaz de nutrir tanto la rivalidad como la amistad entre alcaldes, ese es el Grand Prix. Por eso, esta noche hemos hablado con su presentador, Ramón García. Hemos aprovechado también para felicitar a alcaldesa pedánea de El Palmar (Murcia) por la segunda victoria del tenista Carlos Alcaraz en el US Open de este fin de semana. Y Antón Meana, en su sección, ha resaltado la importancia que tienen los Ayuntamientos a la hora de promover el deporte entre los vecinos y ha hablado de cómo poco a poco los millonarios extranjeros se están haciendo con los clubes de fútbol.

A nivel nacional, la inflación se sitúa en el 2,7% con previsión de cerrar el año en el 2,4%, aunque las diferencias entre comunidades son notables: Extremadura lidera la subida con un 3,1% mientras Canarias y Murcia apenas registran un 1,7%. En el caso de la cesta de la compra, frutas frescas (+21,7%), huevos (+15,3%) y café (+13,9%) encabezan las subidas, frente a la fuerte caída del aceite de oliva (-46%). En el contexto europeo, España destaca con un crecimiento del 2,5%, muy por encima del débil 1,1% de la media de la UE y en contraste con la recesión prolongada de Alemania. Francia, aunque crece un 1,1%, preocupa por su elevada deuda (113% del PIB) y su déficit del 5,4%, que ya ha motivado un procedimiento de Bruselas. En Galicia, el crecimiento acompaña la tendencia española, con un impulso clave de la industria (+4,1%), el textil (+23,1% en exportaciones) y la automoción (+19%). La construcción (+3%) y el dinamismo exportador consolidan la fortaleza del tejido productivo, si bien el peso de empresas tractoras como Inditex y Stellantis es determinante. El mercado laboral es otro de los pilares de este momento económico. En España, se prevé la creación de hasta 430.000 empleos, aunque el ritmo será más moderado. Galicia brilla con cifras récord: más de 1,1 millones de afiliados a la Seguridad Social y un paro en mínimos desde 1996, con previsiones de reducirse al 8,7% en 2025. Sin embargo, la demografía introduce matices: hay casi un jubilado por cada trabajador cotizante. El mercado de la vivienda en Galicia también da señales de tensión. En ciudades como A Coruña y Vigo, los precios suben con fuerza y podrían crecer un 7,3% en 2025, niveles que no se registraban desde hace dos décadas. Ferrol, por su parte, suma dinamismo con el desarrollo de la ría, los astilleros y el puerto exterior.

Hoy en Más de uno hemos conocido la historia de una vecina bastante particular de Redondela, un pueblo cercano a Vigo, conocido por ser la capital mundial del Choco. Se trata de Almudena una mujer encargada del día a día de siete parroquias de la zona siendo laica. Kasimir Burgess' Iron Winter, a documentary that takes the viewer into a land rarely seen — that of the nomadic Mongolian horse herders. An immersive and intimate piece of cinema which invites people to see a dying ancient tradition undertaken on the Mongolian Steppes during a five month journey herding horses to viable snow covered pastures. Transcendentally lensed by Benjamin Bryan Iron Winter is almost elegiac. The ravages of the climate crisis are making extreme conditions significantly more brutal and two young herders have to come to terms not only with the elements but also their futures.Romería by Carla Simón translates to Pilgramage in English. An autobiographical fiction about Simón's parents and the quest for an orphaned 18 year old woman to find remnants and memories about her father and his family in Vigo, Galicia. Simón's avatar Marina (Llúcia Garcia) needs documentation for a university scholarship to study film in 2004, but whether she can convince her father's patrician and evasive parents to accept her as Fon's daughter is complicated by the way he died and their shame.With her mother's diary from 1984 through to 1986 guiding her she imagines their lives as young lovers, but it is a bittersweet imagining as Fon's family obfuscate truths and misremember because his life has been erased.
