Lindsay Lucas is THE wedding venue consultant. She's a former wedding planner who now helps venue owners (and those aspiring to be) to create profitable and sustainable wedding venue businesses. Lindsay had the idea for a complete shift in her business, but it wasn't easy convincing herself that this was the best way to go. Today, we talk about if YOUR idea is really something to go after, that feeling of imposter syndrome you are sure to have when you're doing something new, and how vendors can know when it's time to take the leap. ---This episode is brought to you by The Planner's Vault, my online membership site for wedding planners who are hungry to grow, ready to hustle, and actively seeking community and education. In the vault, there are guest experts on many topics relevant to growing and cultivating a successful event planning business with new content added consistently, plus all of my templates that I have built out over the years, like How to Get on Preferred Vendor Lists, The Client Experience, and more. The mission with the vault is to elevate the industry (along with some amazing experts and fellow entrepreneurs) and I want it to be affordable so it's possible to stay invested in the community and yourself for the long haul. The doors are currently closed for The Vault, but join the wait list now so you can be the first to know when the doors re-open.Weddings for Real on Social Media:Instagram: @weddingsforrealFacebook: @weddingsforrealtwitter: @weddingsforrealHosted by Megan Gillikin, Weddings for Real is presented by The Planner's Vault, and is produced by Earfluence.

In this week's episode, our host Jonathan Aymin sits down with Venue Consultant Lindsay Lucas, to discuss how to think about financing during tough economic times with high interest rates, what things to consider as you are looking for funding, and how to stay flexible in the method but firm in your goals! Her favorite people to work with are the kind wearing dirty (but reliable) boots—farmers, ranchers, & other people who can confidently ride a horse. If you're the type who likes to look off over the horizon & not see your neighbors … she's all in. Since 2016, Lindsay's helped more than 700 venue owners secure funding, scale for sustainable growth, and everything in between. Her portfolio of clients includes venue properties accounting for more than $46M in revenue over the last 6 years. She is also a wife, mom, and a sweet-tea addict. When she's not in the office or running carpool, you can find Lindsay daydreaming about walking the rows of dahlias at Floret Flower Farm, or how she'd turn Yellowstone Ranch into Beth Dutton's most virtuous business venture. Here's more about Lindsay: Lindsay was born and raised in the South where sweet tea and good manners are staples to surviving the Texas heat and strict parents. She describes herself as having a servant’s heart and thrives most when helping others which led her to create Lean On Me Consultants. She coaches wedding venue owners (and those striving to be) on how to create a successful and streamlined business. She’s most passionate about giving her clients a strong foundation to build a business that will give them the life they’ve only dreamt of. Her happy place is being barefoot outside with her son or trying a new restaurant with her husband. Lindsay loves her church, sweet tea and the latest business book.
Quick Note: A lot of current and future venue owners have asked me when The Venue Academy will open again! The answer is, in 2019! If you missed the 2018 program and definitely want to be the first to know when it opens again, get on the Waitlist here. Lindsay Lucas and I will both be offering bonuses again as well :) In today's Tip Tuesday episode I'm sharing my step by step formula for sending a client survey that yields VALUABLE feedback! These are real-time results from the survey I just sent to our ideal clients here at Vista View Events, the wedding venue I own in Colorado. I credit my survey success to Kim Wensel and her tactical client survey tips that she shared with us back in episode 116 (go listen if you haven't already!). Here's a Link to my survey so you can see how simple it is. DM me on Instagram if you need help or encouragement on your own client survey! Pro Tip: Sending a survey is GREAT but you know what's even better? Actually acting on the feedback your clients give you in the survey! I'm not saying you need to cater to every client whim, particularly if it doesn't align with your business or values....but we can all improve & serve our clients better and it's important that we take their feedback seriously!
The Venue Academy will open again in 2019. Sign up to be on the Waitlist Here. If you're a current, future or "maybe someday" venue owner this episode is for you! What are the steps to take before you open your doors and start accepting.......gasp! REAL WEDDINGS?! Lindsay Lucas from Lean on Me Consultants is here today to answer all of these questions and more! After almost a decade in the industry as a wedding planner, Lindsay has transitioned to being a sought-after Venue Consultant. Lindsay consults with folks to help build strong foundation for their venue businesses and teaches them how to run their businesses efficiently, profitably and most importantly, sustainably. She’s sharing some of that insight with us in this episode. Lindsay Lucas is the founder of Lean On Me Consultants based in Houston, Texas and helps event venue owners and creative entrepreneurs looking to launch venues build a successful and sustainable business in a crowded market. Over the past year, she has brought her clients over $1M in revenue. About a year ago when wedding venues started becoming the next "it" business venture, Lindsay noticed that almost all of the venue owners had one of two backgrounds - they either inherited land and were trying to make a business of it, or the buzzing sound of our industry caught the attention of investors in the corporate world. The one thing they all had in common was that they were lost, treading water and praying a Google search would return the magic answer. Today Lindsay and I address the topic of “Serving Before You Sell” and how to gain trust with future clients with the right approach. Open your heart to Skillset, the podcast where every guest is an expert, and every week they teach you and me a new way to look at the movies. This week's episode is dedicated to two movies about all-consuming high school love. First up, let’s analyze the most wicked game in Winona Ryder and Christian Slater’s Heathers. It’s a cruel little sport called croquet, and like the Heathers, actress and comedian Lindsay Lucas Bartlett played it competitively in high school, no holds barred. It turns out croquet is the true test of a person’s morality where nice people risk finishing last. And then, writer-director-Hollywood renaissance man Mark Duplass comes into the studio to open up about the high school girlfriend he swore he was going to marry, back when he was a kid in New Orleans shooting movies with his older brother Jay. Mark was a huge romantic, the type who would have held a boombox over his head. In fact, he still might -- let's find out on this week’s episode of Skillset.
