The rich orchestration, recorded by Nashville's A-team players. Mr. Pursell is perhaps best known for his hit record "Our Winter Love," but also played piano on many of Johnny Cash's albums in the 1960s, and worked as a session musician and arranger for Patsy Cline, Johnny Paycheck, Hoover, Joan Baez, Eric Andersen, Scotty Moore, J.J. At 18, she was cast as Dick Van Patton's niece in a nationally televised Christmas special, “The Gift of Song”, starring a host of country music stars. Relocating to LA in the early 90's, she studied at the South Coast Repertory and Beverly Hills Playhouse and has starred in countless stage productions all over LA, including "Blue Moon Dancing" by Ed Graczyk, "In the City for the Summer" (Variety singled out her gritty performance), and the farcical, outrageous "And Then There was Nun" which played to sold out houses for 2 extensions, where she did a hilarious sendup of Gloria Swanson. She was a long time member of the Company of Angels, LA's oldest repertory theatre, winning a Dramalogue Award for her saucy, sword-wielding performance in the mainstage production of “Zastrozzi”. She appeared in an iconic video for Weird Al Yankovic, spoofing Tanya Harding in the "Mmmm Mmmm" song (where she did her own figure skating). She appeared in several episodes of "Days of Our Lives" and had a small but pivotal role in "The Landlady" starring Talia Shire. A film version of the piece is planned for late 2015. In 2001, she landed a plum role, singing for Betty and President Gerald Ford in Palm Springs. Over the years, she has recorded and performed with some of the greatest jazz musicians on the west coast. She appeared with Gary Tole's "Legends of Swing" orchestra and the Doug MacDonald's 13-piece "Jazz Coalition". In our latest podcast episode entitled "Stages, Screens, & Spokes: Journeys with the Multifaceted Artist," we had the pleasure of interviewing the incredibly talented Katherine King. Katherine is a true polymath, excelling as an actress, playwright, screenwriter, singer-songwriter, and now, an award-winning film director. Here's a recap of our engaging discussion. A Multifaceted Talent Katherine King's artistic journey is nothing short of remarkable. Hailing from Santa Monica, California, Katherine has made significant strides in various creative fields. She has acted in numerous commercials, print ads, and films, including Disney's "Boyster" and feature films like "An Axe to Grind" and "The Downside of Bliss." As a playwright, she has written five full-length plays, four of which were showcased at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Her short play, "Future Wives," was featured at the Hollywood Short and Sweet Festival. Katherine's directorial debut, "The Delicate Cycle," premiered at the Chandler Film Festival and won Best Short Film. From Page to Stage to Screen Katherine's transition from stage to screen was a natural progression. She shared with us how her background in theater helped shape her approach to filmmaking. "I've always had a strong vision when writing," she explained. "Directing allowed me to bring that vision to life in a new and exciting way." Katherine's first film, "The Delicate Cycle," tells the heartwarming story of a boy and a man who form an unlikely friendship in a laundromat. The film's exploration of human connections and emotional resilience resonated with audiences and critics alike. Crafting Authentic Stories A key theme in our conversation was Katherine's dedication to authenticity in storytelling. She emphasized the importance of listening and observing to create genuine characters. "I'm fascinated by people who are different from me," she said. "This curiosity drives my writing and helps me create characters that feel real." Katherine's keen eye for detail and her ability to capture the nuances of human behavior shine through in her work, making her stories relatable and impactful. The Delicate Cycle: A Labor of Love Katherine's passion for her craft was evident as she discussed the making of "The Delicate Cycle." Filming in a laundromat, a location she passed daily on her bike rides, added a layer of authenticity to the project. Despite the challenges of indie filmmaking, Katherine assembled a talented team and created a film that has earned numerous accolades. The film's success at the Chandler Film Festival and subsequent awards, including Best Comedy Film and Best Original Story, are a testament to her dedication and vision. Looking Ahead: Rickshaw Romance Katherine's creative pursuits don't stop at filmmaking. She gave us a sneak peek into her upcoming reality show, "Rickshaw Romance." The show will feature blind dates taking place on pedicabs, offering a unique and intimate setting for couples to connect. Katherine's experience as a pedicab driver inspired the concept, and she believes it will bring a fresh perspective to the world of dating shows. "It's about bringing people together in real life without the distractions of technology," she explained. Kerine King's journey is a testament to the power of creativity and perseverance. Her ability to excel in multiple artistic disciplines and her commitment to telling authentic stories make her a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment industry. ============= Submit Your Film to Our Film Collective: ifapfilmcollective.com Connect With Floyd Marshall Jr: instagram.com/floydmarshalljr tiktok.com/@floydmarshalljr0 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/aconversationwithfm/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/aconversationwithfm/support

Since 2010 she has advised and consulted for individual artists, educational institutions, and arts non profit organizations, on projects ranging from developing new artistic and education programs, to curriculum design and organizational culture. From 2019-2021 she ran the 6 Figure Musician Entrepreneur program and live virtual Intensive, an entirely online education program which has provided musicians and creatives around the world with the skills to gain financial independence through creating profitable online education and coaching businesses. Her clients have included members of major orchestras, university faculty, celebrated jazz artists, and Broadway performers. She has consulted for organizations including USC Radio Group, the Peabody Institute, Stanford University, University of Miami, and Beth Morrison Projects. Jennifer's first entrepreneurial adventure began in 2009 when she co-founded iCadenza with her high school best friend Julia Levitan. Over the course of ten years leading the company and then embarking on her own path - both as an entrepreneur and artist - she has developed a unique and often contrarian perspective on the relationship between art, commerce, health and sustainability, and how to maximize independence for artists. She is an advocate for new financial models in the performing arts industry that are centered on education, in order to enhance profitability and creative freedom - both for individuals and organizations. Learn more in her interview with Erik Gensler for the CI to Eye podcast. Many of her current and former clients run successful, profitable, and highly impactful businesses, proving that musicians (and all creatives) absolutely have the ability to be good at the “business side”, debunking the myths of the starving and helpless artist.Jennifer co-authored the book Awakening Your Business Brain: an iCadenza Guide to Launching Your Music Career. She received her BA in History and Russian Literature and her JD/MBA from Stanford University. Since completing her graduate programs, she has independently pursued extensive continuing studies in composition, song writing, piano, voice, and much more - in order to be ready and able to create The White Rose, a project that began as a seed of an idea in 2009. Having been a three-time semi-finalist, we discuss the process of and when to submit for the O'neill's and whether it's ever okay to pay to submit your work. We also touch on how playwrights one has never met can serve as a mentor, conversation being spontaneous while dialogue being scripted, and how one's characters dictate the verbiage as well as the difference between humor and comedy, learning how to say no, dusting off old and incomplete work, writers having the final word, creating layered characters, the misconceptions of playwriting, and the process of editing. We unpack so much more that I can't list them all. Garry offers so much insight that I walked away with so much information. I hope you find the same for you. Garry Michael Kluger has written 19 plays, 3 books, 2 TV pilots, several television series, and 12 documentaries and was a writing member of Theatre West; one of Los Angeles' most prestigious theatre companies. His play The Other Half, was a part of the 2014 Pittsburgh New Works Festival and WestFest at Theatre West in Los Angeles, and Top Ten at the Sterts Playwrights Festival in London. The Homecoming, was a finalist in the Warner International Playwrights Festival, the West Hollywood Gay and Lesbian Play Reading Festival, and winner of the Chaos Theory Play Festival in 2011.
