Why do we struggle to believe that God's grace is for everyone—even for those who have hurt us? That's the same struggle Jonah had as he wrestled with God for saving Jonah's enemies. It is tempting for us to draw a line, put ourselves on the right side of it, and think we're the only people God should love. But as Pastor Mike wraps up the book of Jonah, he challenges us with the question: Because God is a gracious God, shouldn't he also care about the people we don't care about? Get your copy of “Rewrite Your Story: A Guide to the Life-Changing Parables of Jesus” by Pastor Daron Lindemann! If God so loved the world that he sent Jesus to die for us, why do we need to repent? What does "repent" even mean? To answer these questions, Pastor Mike takes us through chapter 3 of the book of Jonah and gives us four takeaways about what it means to repent and how we know we are repenting. When we mess up and feel so far away from God, one of the hardest things to do is to cry out to God. We find ourselves thinking, "Why would God listen to the cry of someone in such a desperate, rock-bottom situation?" However, as Pastor Mike teaches from the book of Jonah, sometimes we need to hit rock bottom to realize our constant need for God and the grace that reaches us in our lowest places.Get your copy of “Rewrite Your Story: A Guide to the Life-Changing Parables of Jesus” by Pastor Daron Lindemann! The book of Jonah isn't about a big fish. In fact, it's not even about the prophet Jonah. Instead, it's about God and his insane love for ALL people—even “those people,” those we often regard as being furthest from God and least deserving. Which, Pastor Mike says, actually includes . . . us. This message kicks off a series that takes us through the book of Jonah as we discover how God's grace shows up continually for unlikely people and in unlikely places. For more resources that help you stay rooted in Jesus, check us out at timeofgrace.org where you can also subscribe to our daily email! If you have questions and want to know more about God, like what does he think of you, what exactly was Jesus all about, how do you get “saved” and just what exactly does it mean to “get saved,” and what you should do next, we want you to download this free resource Pastor Mike wrote called, The Basics: God. You. Jesus. Faith.
Spoiler alert: the book of Jonah is NOT about a big fish.Pastor Mike and Amber Albee Swenson talk about what the book of Jonah IS actually about: God's love for his people. In their deep dive discussion, they also found ways to talk about poisonous frogs, how we can avoid falling into political divisions (hang out with Amber!), what God may think about Americans' prayers, and the impressive chart of accountability levels Pastor Mike developed right there on the spot. This month, thanks to some generous donors, we have a $125,000 Challenge Grant! Jonah knew the truth, “You are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.” He just had to get on the right side of that truth. He had to move from anger and envy to worship and gratitude. How do you get out of yourself? Get into the LORD I AM. Sounds so simple. But it's really hard!

Like any relationship sometimes on person lets the other person down. What happens when it is God that lets us down? What do we do when we are mad at him? Or we feel let down or hurt by him.
We are all going to face moments in life when we feel discouraged or frustrated. It's normal to feel angry as well, and sometimes we can even get mad at God. This feeling of anger may come suddenly or linger for quite some time, and it's often hard to put into words. But, no matter how deep it is, it's possible to move through it. Start by understanding that it's okay to feel angry. Don't beat yourself up for your emotions. Instead, take the time to focus on God by talking to Him and listening for His response. Find a supportive environment where you can express yourself and receive guidance from trusted people in your life. Allow yourself moments of quiet to reflect on why you're feeling so mad at God. Question why these feelings have manifested, and be gentle with yourself as you do. Consider the verses from the Bible that offer wisdom and guidance on how to face difficult situations. Remember that God is always with us, even in moments when we are angry. Lean into Him and allow Him to be your strength as you journey through this hard time.

So, you're mad at God, I get it. He did something you didn't like and/or he allowed something you absolutely hated. I know it's hard and it's rough, but believe it or not it is for your own good. Whatever it is that happened, your feelings are valid. You're human and have every right to be upset at God, but you must trust him with the situation. Not only will it work out for your good, but it'll give Him all the glory so that someone else can see that they too can receive healing from Him. “His ways are higher than our ways and his thoughts are higher than our thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9). You may be mad and upset at God now, but you'll be thankful for it much later. Heal and be blessed!

God gave Jonah a second chance at his calling, which ended in the most unexpected blessing, the repentance of the wicked people of Nineveh. God does the same thing in our lives, offering us a chance to be different people who choose a different path now that we have a new knowledge of God's power and love.

Jonah, when given a clear mission from heaven, ran from God, a foolish idea. But we often do the same thing, running from a truth that challenges us to change. This message confronts spiritual “runners” and refuses to let them run too far without hearing the voice of God.

Jonah's best moment happened in the worst place. Surrounded by God knows-what-digestive fluids, he confessed his desperation and praised the Lord's salvation. The same thing happens to us. I'm Mad at God is the statement that Jesse unexpectedly made in a church small group that was the start to a major change in his life. This vulnerable moment caused him to courageously seek to understand himself and his relationship with God, his self and others. How We Relate is Jesse's new book. In this episode, we talk about building authentic male friendships, being strong men and what that means, and understanding people's relationship styles to build better relationships. We have a core style of relating that we use in every relationship we have. Understanding how people relate with each other will help us understand and connect and help people feel heard and feel valued. Here are some key questions asked in this episode: Do you know what you want? What question do our kids look to us to help answer? How do we build better relationships? What's at risk if we don't dive into having better relationships? What's 1 thing you did today, 1 thought you had today and 1 emotion you felt today? God is calling us to trust Him. There is a plan for this, and we are part of His plan. The tension, of course, is that He's the author of our stories, and we are not. Preferably, I want to be the writer of my story rather than trust the Sovereign story writer. During most of our daily affairs, we do trust God; it's only when things begin to fly sideways that the call to trust come under attack. When the heat in our lives intensifies, the temptation is to react in self-reliant ways because we're not getting the life we had hoped God would provide.
