Sorin Simon has always been attracted to music. It all started in his childhood home of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where he took piano lessons while still in school. His passion for music only grew as the years went by and as he started to go to different festivals, Sorin decided it was time for him to become a DJ. So, in 2006, he got himself some musical equipment and started learning the tricks all by himself, taking inspiration from a:rpia:r crew at that time. That same year, he started playing music at some private parties for friends and small crowds. Slowly, he was learning the craft and by the time he moved to Jersey, in the Channel Islands in the UK, he was ready for the big stuff. Soon enough, he was a resident at one of the top clubs in the city. Time went by and in 2017 Sorin moved definitively to London where he started playing different underground events all around London. A year later, he signed to Vivus Records, an underground/independent and vinyl-only label from South Germany. Sorin has played at multiple festivals both in Romania and abroad such as Monegros Desert Festival, Sonar Off in Spain, Back To The Wild, and Electric Castle in Romania. As a producer, Sorin Simon's dark and trippy soundscapes are reminiscent of the Romanian underground scene and his first track, O dimineață târzie, remains an unreleased jam, that has nonetheless over 150k views on YouTube. Since then, he released two EPs – Ecouri Paralele at Other Thoughts Records and the track Fragmente on the VA03 released by Vivus Records. Sharing the decks with some well-known Dj's like Janeret, Crihan, Cap, Mihigh, RQZ, Cosmjn, Illan Nicciani, Triptil, Bryz, Bexu, Little Hado, Prajescu, Maher Daniel just to name few of them. Sorin aims to give the public the same lovely feeling he has when he encounters quality music and his mesmerizing and deep-dark minimal microhouse does just that. His goal was never to be a people pleaser, but to please the right people. Over three hours of ambient and rolling rhythms from a master of minimal. Since his early days as a resident at the legendary Montreal afterhours club Stereo, Maher Daniel has been a stalwart in the world of minimal-leaning house music. It was there that he learned and mastered the foundations of his style: deep melodies, rolling beats, extended mixes, all put together with a wash of psychedelia. Following a move to Barcelona, the Palestinian-Canadian DJ more firmly struck out on his own, appearing on Lee Burridge's world-conquering All Day I Dream label before starting his own, The Other Side, in 2016. The Other Side has become an important outpost for a kind of dance music that blends old-school microhouse sensibilities with the rolling basslines and three-dimensional sound design of Rominimal, notably through a series of collaborations with Ricardo Villalobos with the Changes EP trilogy. During the pandemic, Daniel also started dipping his toes into ambient music, which starts off this epic, three-hour-plus mix before it plunges into rolling rhythms. He takes the time to stretch out here, mixing plenty of his own work with tracks from Jesper Dahlbäck, Cristi Cons, Dexter and, of course, Ricardo Villalobos, ending with a stunning custom breakbeat edit of Global Communication's ambient techno epic "14:31."

Asal is a project born from a few years but has already seen his name on important labels such as Monique Musique, Aenaria recording, Society 3.0, Pick up, and Amazing Lessconv records, in cooperation with djs such as DJ Sneak, Phil Weeks, Kevin Griffit, Francisco Allendes , El Mundo & Satori, Felipe Venegas, Horatio, Alex Kenji, Alessandro Sensini, Lissat & Voltax.The recent 2011 was t he year of revelat ion. In May, t he new single "Pure Love" on Monique Musique, also remixed by DJ Sneak, played as the first track by Reebot to the opening party of Ushuaia 2011 in ibiza, and as well as the soundtrack of the video presentation of Ushuaia 2011.In late December, his last work, the remix of the song "(You know) It's sad but true" of Venkmans, recent winners of the 'Wave Band Italy in 2011, released on the label Universal / Rai Trade.In the last summer, he played at party Cadenza "Vagabundos Café" in Ibiza and was the official dj-set for Aperol Campari Summer Tour, ended up with a big concert in the Riccione’s square with the live Planet Funk, and after his DJ-set. TIEFSCHWARZ In a world of ever recycled trends, Tiefschwarz (deep black) is that most classic of shades. Its timeless style is testament to its staying power, and with a DJ and production career spanning over 14 years, this German deep house duo have proven just how apt a moniker can be. Born and bred in Stuttgart, brothers Ali and Basti Schwarz’s passion for techno and deep house flourished their initial experience as DJs in the early 90’s at the now legendary clubs that Ali ran in their home town, ON –U and Red Dog. This led to the formation of Tiefschwarz in 1997, from which they found rapid success with their debut single ‘Music’ (on Francois K’s Wave Music label) and album Ral 9005. By 2001, this had been licensed to the London label Classic Recordings from where they springboarded to international recognition. They decided to make the move to Berlin, at the time fast becoming the epicentre of a true electronic music renaissance, from where they pursued a hectic touring schedule and remixing the likes of Cassius, The Rapture, Missy Elliott, Kelis and their personal heroes Masters At Work. They then scored a double whammy with their all-conquering crossover hit remix of Spektrum’s ‘Kinda New’ and the single ‘Isst’ off their 2005 long-player, ‘Eat Books’. This was also the year that electrohouse dominated the charts and minimal the clubs, but Tiefschwarz have never allowed themselves to be tied down to a certain sound, staying true to their love of melody as demonstrated on their contribution to the Fabric mix series that year. A series of high profile mixes in 2006, including Depeche Mode, Madonna, Roxy Music, Booka Shade, Phonique, Plastikman, dOP, and many others saw them continue perfecting their distinctive sound. Yet this was also the year in which Ali and Basti gravitated back to Berlin to found their own label, Souvenir. Basti explains “We like the idea of seeing music as a souvenir, an impression you take from somewhere. Something intimate that you remember”. They haven’t let this slow down their impressive production workload though, with a ten year anniversary compilation and a 2010 follow up album ‘Chocolate’ made in collaboration with Santé, and featuring Cassy, Seth Troxler, Dave Aju amongst others. At a perfect time to take stock of their career, the brothers are proudly contributing the ninth installment in the Watergate mix series, and have chosen a number of tracks that simultaneously pay homage to the tracks that shaped the beginnings of their career whilst also remaining very much forward looking. After years of constant touring, however, their Souvenir label has allowed them to lay down more permanent roots back in Berlin. It’s a place to foster talent, both young and old, not only in a sense of releasing records but also as a platform to share mutual experiences within a common network, a close core of artists work together including Ruede Hagelstein, Maher Daniel, the brothers Santé and Re.You, Ali & Basti at the helm. With plenty more artists on the roster as well as a digital only subsidiary, Souvenir Plus, and a debut LP from Hagelstein on the horizon, there is promise of plenty yet to come for the Schwarz brothers’ imprint.
