It was January 2, 1999, and 9-year-old Kimber Biggs and her 11-year-old sister were playing in the street in their Mesa neighborhood while waiting for an ice cream truck. After a while, Mikelle's sister got cold and went inside for her jacket; her sister stayed to wait, clutching the quarters she got from her mom to buy ice cream. When she returned minutes later, her sister had vanished, her bike lying abandoned on the sidewalk beside two quarters strewn in the street.
In 1999 two sisters in mesa Arizona were playing outside and enjoying what was left of their winter break. What as an innocent time playing together would turn in to the family's worst nightmare when the older sister went missing in 90 seconds. In 1999 an 11 year old girl named Mikelle Biggs vanished without a trace after leaving to get ice cream in front of her house- she was only out of sight for 90 seconds- there are very few clues that have emerged in her case- one of which is a bizarre message scribbled on a dollar bill. Perhaps only one person knows for certain what happened to her, a man in prison with a dark past….

January 1999. She was gone in 90 seconds. Eleven-year-old Mikelle Biggs disappeared while riding her sister's bike on their Mesa, Arizona street and waiting for the ice cream truck. Her sister Kimber went inside for less than two minutes, and when she came back out, Mikelle was gone. Authorities believe Mikelle was abducted, but no arrests have ever been made. We investigate the timeline of events, and the story is told through her sister, who at 9 years old was the last person to see Mikelle alive. Now in her 30s, she hasn't given up, and both she and detectives believe Mikelle may be nearby.
January 2, 1999 was an average day in sleepy suburban Mesa Arizona when, as dusk was falling, 11 year-old Mikelle Biggs and her sister Kimber thought they heard the sound of an ice cream truck coming up the street as they were playing outside their house. Mikelle ran into the house and convinced her mother – who was just starting dinner, to give her some quarters so she and Kimber could buy a treat. Racing back outside, Mikelle borrowed Kimber’s brand new pink bicycle – which Kimber had just gotten for Christmas only 8 days prior. Seeing her sister riding up the street on her bike, Kimber decided to go back into the house to get a jacket. It took her all of 90 seconds to return to the front yard where she would run to catch up with Mikelle. But instead of seeing her sister riding farther up the street, what Kimber saw instead was her empty bike, lying on its side in the middle of the street, pointed back in the direction of their house – the front wheel still spinning. In 90 seconds – Mikelle Biggs went from a bright, beautiful young girl riding to catch an ice cream truck in the fading winter light – to a memory. She has never been seen again. While there is a likely culprit who has been identified – now in prison for a different, horrific crime - he has never been charged and has denied having anything to do with Mikelle’s disappearance. In this moving episode, Melissa describes the police investigation, the family’s exhausting quest for answers, the haunting image of that gleaming new pink bicycle lying still, its front wheel still turning from the impetus of Mikelle’s force – and how all these years later, those 90 seconds live forever in the heart and soul of a little sister who wonders – what if she had not gone to get that jacket?

***Sponsored by Solid Gold. Visit SolidGoldPet.com/Trace***Eleven year old Mikelle Biggs was waiting for the ice cream truck to come by with her younger sister, Kimber. Losing her patience and growing cold, Kimber went home. Immediately upon arriving, her mother sent her back out to tell Mikelle to come home too. In total she was gone less than ninety seconds, but in that short window of time, Mikelle had been abducted. All that was left behind was the bike Mikelle had been riding, the rear wheel still spinning. While a neighbor with a criminal past caught the eye of investigators they never had enough evidence to charge him. Less than a year later, he attacked and nearly murdered a nearby neighbor. In the inaugural episode of Talk Murdy To Me, the girls choose stories that coincidentally are some of their first experiences with true crime that they can remember. Melissa shares the conspiracy theory/possible murder of Princess Diana and Sarah dives into the disappearance of local Arizona girl, Mikelle Biggs.
11-year-old Mikelle Biggs lived with her two sisters, older brother, mother and father in Mesa, Arizona. She was mischievous and strong-willed, but intelligent, funny, and creative. A chilly evening with her younger sister Kimber lead the girls to wait outside for an approaching ice cream truck, but when Kimber left her for just a moment to return to the house for a coat, she'd come back 90 seconds later to find the bike her sister was riding lying in the middle of the t-shape intersection with one of the wheels still spinning and no sight of Mikelle anywhere. 21 years later, the family fears they will never find the closure that they need as Mikelle's story fades into the darkness. Kayla and I cover this case so that that doesn't happen. *** Sources & pictures found here: https://truecrimewithkayandshay.wordpress.com/2020/06/30/missing-unsolved-mikelle-biggs/ --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

In this first episode of 2019, we're discussing the disappearance of 11-year-old Mikelle Biggs. Mikelle disappeared near her home in Mesa, Arizona 20 years ago. Mikelle's sister Kimber was outside with her that day that she vanished. We'll hear from Kimber in this episode about Mikelle's disappearance and how it affected their entire family. This is a story of bad things that can happen in the blink of an eye. When Kimber found her sister Mikelle's bike the wheels were still spinning. The whole city of Mesa jumped in to help look for Mikelle but she couldn't be found. Her parents are convinced that they know who took her and it was someone that, they feel, police should have looked at more closely from the beginning.
