The Liturgical Rosary WE ARE NOT CHANGING ANY MEDITATIONS OF THE ROSARY. Jesse Romero interviews Author Sister Mary Gabrielle about her new book, The Liturgical Rosary. One thing we find in the Church is not having the need to choose between one or another. The most common examples are: Scripture and Tradition. If asked which was more important, Catholics may have a hard time justifying one or the other. This is why the Church's answer is Both! We don't have to choose “either/or” but rather “both/and”. So in today's episode of the Terry and Jesse Show, we ask which would you rather pray, the Rosary or the Mass? But why not coincide the Mysteries of the Rosary with the Liturgical Calendar of the Mass? It makes so much sense for devout Catholics to synchronize these two aspects of the faith and conform their lives more perfectly to Christ. Today's Topics: 1) Gospel - John 1:29-34 - John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world. He is the one of Whom I said, 'A Man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me because He existed before me.' I did not know Him, but the reason why I came baptizing with water was that He might be made known to Israel." John testified further, saying, "I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from the sky and remain upon Him. I did not know Him, but the One Who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'On Whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain, He is the One Who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.' Now I have seen and testified that He is the Son of God." Memorial of the Most Holy Name of Jesus O Jesus, have mercy upon us! 2, 3) Sister Mary Gabrielle on the beautiful book the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters have written: The Liturgical Rosary. Sister shares the story about their remarkable work, and the urgent need to address their living situation. DeSantis signed an age-verification law protecting children from accessing pornographic material https://catholicvote.org/porn-giant-to-stop-running-site-in-florida-due-to-age-verification-law-desantis-signed/

Bernardine used devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus as a way of overcoming bitter and often bloody class struggles and family rivalries or vendettas in Italian city-states. The devotion grew, partly because of Franciscan and Dominican preachers. It spread even more widely after the Jesuits began promoting it in the 16th century. The Most Holy Name of Jesus (Memorial)
Friends of the Rosary, Happy New Year in Christ! Today, January 3, Christmas Weekday, the Gospel of John (John 1:29-34) contains the first biblical presentation of the Holy Trinity. It happened during Jesus' baptism. The sky opened, and John the Baptist saw the Spirit of God descend like a dove and remain upon him. With that, a voice from the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Today, the first Friday of the month, we also celebrate the memorial of the Most Holy Name of Jesus. The name of Jesus means Savior, for His name expresses His mission. Connected to the reading of today, the name of Jesus opens heaven. It kindles our hearts, clarifies our souls, and removes anger and anxiety. Devotion to the Holy Name is deeply rooted in the Sacred Scriptures. We read in Sacred Scripture how the angel Gabriel revealed that name to Mary: “You shall call His name Jesus.” As the Catechism states, “The name Jesus' contains all… His name is the only one that contains the presence it signifies.” It's suitable for any circumstance: joy and gratitude on a trial when we have sinned. We say, “Praise Jesus,” “Jesus, help me!”, “Jesus, have mercy.” His holy name brings love and hope. Whoever prays to the Eternal Father in the name of Jesus may have hope for every grace he asks for: “If you ask the Father anything in My name, He will give it to you.” Whenever we pronounce it, we ought to bow our heads; for the very name reminds us of the greatest favor we have ever received, salvation. January has traditionally been dedicated to the Holy Name of Jesus. For 3 January 2025, The Most Holy Name of Jesus, based on Luke 2:21-24
Hail, Full of Grace! The Lord Is With You! Today the Church celebrates The Most Holy Name of Mary (September 12th). Have you ever imagined what the world would be like if we did not have names? Silly, perhaps, but an interesting image. Names brings order. Names gives us an identity. And names also carry for us a history. In another country, people are given two names when they are born. There is a name a person uses during Baptism, and a name for casual use signifying the condition when the baby was born. Hear more within the Homily. Scripture tells us about Mary. We know that wherever Mary is, Jesus is there as well. We also know that wherever Jesus is, Mary is there as well. Whenever We Honor Mary . . . Montfort, in his writings, True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary (TD #225), says We never think of Mary, without Mary thinking of God! Montfort goes on to tell us when we honor Mary, Mary joins us in honoring God. Every time we mention the name of Mary, Mary echoes back by mentioning the name of God. We hear this in the Gospel (the account of the Mystery of the Visitation) today. Mary travels in haste to see her cousin Elizabeth. The word Haste is important. When the angel appears to Mary, she is excited to share the news with her cousin Elizabeth. Why? Because Mary has discovered something within herself. The angel tells her, Hail, Full of Grace. The Lord is With You! Our Lady would like to share this news with her cousin. Hear more in this Homily given on the Most Holy Name of Mary. Listen to this Meditation. Listen to: Hail, Full of Grace! The Lord Is With You! ----------------------------- Image: Our Lady: Saint Patrick's Parish, Victor, NY ----------------------------- Gospel Reading: Luke: 1: 39-47 First Reading: Galatians: 4: 4-7

This blogcast explores “The Power of a Name" written by Erin Donn and read by Tom Carani. In this blog post, Erin reflects on the first title the child Jesus gave to Mary: Mom. When we speak Mary's name and call out to her as our spiritual mom, we are fulfilling St. Francis de Sales' words to “run to Mary, and, as her little children, cast ourselves into her arms with a perfect confidence.” We can give ourselves to Mary, like Jesus did, and she will in turn bring us closer to God. In the repetition of these Marian prayers and hymns we spiritually speak our mother Mary's name and ask for her help from the depths of our hearts. Just like our earthly mothers cherish the little gifts we give and imperfect efforts we make, Mary graciously receives and multiplies everything we call out to her from our heart. Mary doesn't need us to come to her with perfect devotion, but with an honest desire to grow closer to Jesus through her. Day after day, we can speak her most holy name and call on her assistance with the confidence that she will come to our aid. As we honor the Most Holy Name of Mary, we pray the Lord will enkindle in us a deeper trust and devotion to His mother. Let us speak Mary's name with love and devotion, trusting in the power of her intercession and mediation for us. Mama Mary, pray for us! Feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary 2024
Today's Topics: 1) Gospel - LK 6:27-38 - Jesus said to His disciples: “To you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. To the person who strikes you on one cheek, offer the other one as well, and from the person who takes your cloak, do not withhold even your tunic. Give to everyone who asks of you, and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you. For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same. If you lend money to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, and get back the same amount. But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, just as also your Father is merciful. “Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you.” Memorial of the Most Holy Name of Mary O Most Blessed Mother, pray for us! The Most Holy Name of Mary (Optional Memorial)
Friends of the Rosary, Today, September 12, four days after the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Mother, we honor The Most Holy Name of Mary. The feast day encourages us to pray for her intercession to deepen our love of Christ. When we call Mary Our Lady and pronounce her name, we affirm her power, implore her aid, and place ourselves under her protection. The holy name of Mary bears such power because of the unique bond between Mother and Son. Benedict XVI wrote, “If you follow her, you will not stray; if you pray to her, you will not despair; if you turn your thoughts to her, you will not err. If she holds you, you will not fall; if she protects you, you need not fear; if she is your guide, you will not tire; if she is gracious to you, you will surely reach your destination.” The feast originated in Spain and was approved by the Holy See in 1513. Innocent XI extended its observance to the Church in thanksgiving to our Lady for the September 12, 1683 victory over the Turks besieging Vienna and threatening the West. St. Louis de Montfort wrote, “The salvation of each individual is bound up with the Hail Mary.” Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You! Come, Holy Spirit, come! The Most Holy Name of Jesus (Memorial)
Friends of the Rosary: Today, on the tenth day of Christmas, we honor the Most Holy Name of Jesus, which means Savior. Moreover, the month of January has traditionally been dedicated to the Holy Name of Jesus. This devotion to the Holy Name is deeply rooted in the Sacred Scriptures, especially in the Acts of the Apostles. God Himself gave this name to express His mission and the purpose of His existence. We read in the New Testament how the angel Gabriel revealed that name to Mary: “You shall call His name Jesus.” “His name was called Jesus, which was called by the Angel before He was conceived in the womb.” Luke 2:21. To St. Joseph, the angel not merely revealed the name but explained its meaning: “You shall call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins.” The name of Jesus is a name of love, hope, and joy. The Feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary The celebration of the name of Our Lady is beautiful and complex. It is simple . . . the name of Mary. But it is also complex, because to understand this name, it requires considerable effort. If you read the letters of St. Paul, they are obviously written after the birth of Jesus. He says Jesus is born of woman, but he does not name the woman. He does not describe her. If we pause with this reality, and if we did not have St. Luke's Gospel and St. Matthew's Gospel (which give us her name) what would we have? Listen further to this Homily. But we do know her name! This is the beauty of the account of Jesus's birth in St. Luke's Gospel. Amazingly, we know her name because she makes her appearance within scripture at the moment Christ will come into the world! And He came down with them and stood on a stretch of level ground. A great crowd of His disciples and a large number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon came to hear Him and to be healed of their diseases; and even those who were tormented by unclean spirits were cured. Friends of the Rosary: Today, we observe the Memorial Day of the Most Holy Name of Mary, inviting everyone to reflect upon all the graces received through the intercession and mediation of the Blessed Mother. This feast originated in Spain in the sixteenth century, in thanksgiving to Our Lady for the battle victory for Christian Europe against the Muslim Turks. The feast of the Holy Name of Mary follows that of her Birthday, as the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus follows Christmas. In accordance with Jewish custom, Our Lady's parents named her eight days after her birth and were inspired to call her Mary. The Hebrew name of Mary, Miryãm, (in Latin Domina) means lady or sovereign; this Mary is by virtue of her Son's sovereign authority as Lord of the World. We call Mary Our Lady as we call Jesus Our Lord, and when we pronounce her name we affirm her power, implore her aid, and place ourselves under her protection. In this regard, Pope Benedict XVI wrote about the Most Holy Virgin:“If you follow Mary, you will not stray; if you pray to her, you will not despair; if you turn your thoughts to her, you will not err. In his last official statement as pope, before a general audience on Feb. 27, 2013, Pope Benedict assured the tens of thousands of people gathered to hear him speak as pope for the last time that even though he was stepping back from official duties, he would remain, in essence, pope “The ‘always' is also a ‘forever' — there can no longer be a return to the private sphere. My decision to resign the active exercise of the ministry does not revoke this,” Benedict said. “I do not return to private life, to a life of travel, meetings, receptions, conferences, and so on. I am not abandoning the cross, but remaining in a new way at the side of the crucified Lord,” he told the crowd. By his decision to continue to dress in white like the pope, retain the title of pope, and keep the coat of arms of his papacy, Benedict revealed that in giving up the “active exercise of the ministry,” he was not forsaking the role of pope altogether. In a speech at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome on May 20, 2016, Gänswein said that Pope Francis and Benedict are not two popes “in competition” with one another but represent one “expanded” Petrine office with “an active member” and a “contemplative.” VII – the last alive? The feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary began in Spain in 1513 and in 1671 was extended to all of Spain and the Kingdom of Naples. In 1683, John Sobieski, king of Poland, brought an army to the outskirts of Vienna to stop the advance of Muslim armies loyal to Mohammed IV of Constantinople. After Sobieski entrusted himself to the Blessed Virgin Mary, he and his soldiers thoroughly defeated the Muslims. Pope Innocent XI extended this feast to the entire Church. Reflection Mary always points us to God, reminding us of God's infinite goodness. She helps us to open our hearts to God's ways, wherever those may lead us. Honored under the title “Queen of Peace,” Mary encourages us to cooperate with Jesus in building a peace based on justice, a peace that respects the fundamental human rights of all peoples.
