Today's guest is talking about something I have been (and still often am!) deeply uncomfortable with - Money. I know I'm not alone in finding it difficult to hold on to money, often living from paycheck to paycheck and - as an entrepreneur - in feast and famine from month to month. My guest this week is Philly Ponniah, a certified financial coach helping women improve their relationship with money and shift patterns rooted in childhood. In the interview we talk about... What a relationship with money means Common issues women have around money and why money is such a taboo subject How our childhood affects our relationship with money What a healthy relationship with money looks like How to help our children build a healthy relationship with money I found this conversation so enlightening and it's motivated me to take money seriously this year – and work on shifting my relationship with money to a more positive one. Spoiler: Not really. We also answer the important question of ‘Which Paw Patrol Character Are You?' and Katherine tells us how she recently convinced her kids to recreate a bar on the Copacobana so she could legitimately have a Pina Colada a 5pm. What do  the Duchess of Cambridge (AKA Kate Middleton) , Victoria Beckham, Serena Williams and Holly Willoughby have in common? If you guessed “they all experience mother’s guilt” then you’d be spot on! And it’s not surprising really as it’s claimed that nearly 90% of mums experience it.  In my latest episode of the Wisdom For Working Mums’ podcast show I’m talking all about mothers guilt.  What it is. Why we get it. And the difference between functional (helpful) and dysfunctional (unhelpful) mother’s guilt. I’m sharing the science and psychology behind guilt and what we can do to finally free ourselves from the unhelpful aspects of it.  Come join me in pulling back the curtain on this invisible force of motherhood so that it no longer unhelpfully controls you.   I’m sharing some of the tools and strategies to finally free yourself from mother’s guilt to thrive as a working mum. In this episode I share: Why our brains are wired for us to experience guilt more when we have children [3:20] How our strategies for managing our emotions are often undermined when we have children [6:05] The crazy expectations that we swim in as mothers that means we often can’t escape feeling guilty [7:33] The difference between functional and dysfunctional guilt [11:40] Why it’s important to know who’s guilt it is, as not all guilt is actually ours [16:03] How discovering your mothering style can help free you from your guilt [18:10] How creating a 'non guilt agreement' allows you to choose your relationship with guilt [23:02] How practicing guilt resilience is key to freeing yourself from it [25:07] Links in this episode: Freeing Yourself From Mother’s Guilt masterclass:  Wisdom For Working Mums website Facebook page Instagram page

Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a motivational theory in psychology comprising a five-tier model of human needs. From the bottom of the hierarchy upwards, the needs are physiological, safety, love and belonging, esteem and self-actualization. So... We have created a Mumlow´s hierarchy with all the situations that make us feel guilty. Since the Physiological guilt that we always feel when the child is crying but you need to go to the toilet until the guilt when you just give time to get a pedicure or do something for yourself...   Guilt is constant background noise but is also a useful emotion for a soul.

Why do we stay in relationships that are bad for us? With people who make us question our worth? With people we are no longer in love with? The age old excuse is always ‘for the sake of the children’. Everyone has their reasons for this that sit outside ‘the sake of children’, but why do we revert to this excuse when justifying our reasons to stay? Is the fear of the unknown better or worse than the devil you know? (Pun possibly intended.) We talk about how our relationships change after children come along and why, when paths divert off track beyond repair, that sometimes it is better to leave, in spite of and because of the children.

Some milestones are way cuter than others: smiling, first words and steps, the first rock hard towel you pull from underneath your teenage son’s bed. Has anyone realised how so many of these baby oriented milestones end up with everything covered in poo? Has anyone else realised the similarities between toilet training a baby and toilet training a puppy? Do you think it’s socially acceptable to implement any of these puppy training strategies to a toilet training child? Asking for a friend… Reaching any kind of milestone in life is a moment to be proud of. But what happens when these milestones inevitably become yet another thing to feel mother’s guilt over, or even worse, become something we compete against each other with!? We talk milestones at all stages of development today, even personal milestones. Because let’s not forget, even though you may have just birthed a child, you’re still a person too.

You know what you think is going to be funny? Mooing while you breastfeed or pump. In the age of working women, breastfeeding, or more importantly NOT breastfeeding is fast becoming a contentious issue. Is it ok not to like breastfeeding? Is it ok to decide not to breastfeed at all? Whilst they certainly do say ‘breast is best’, does this take into consideration the mother and her general mental health state? I think we can all agree that a fed baby is a (mostly) happy baby, so with this in mind, is it worth your sanity to persist with a course of action that is not conducive to your own wellbeing? If washing and sterilizing (countless) bottles is the price you pay in order to regain some semblance of control in an otherwise incredibly chaotic time in your life, I think you’d pay it every time…. If you had the cash left over after spending a week’s maternity leave pay on formula.
