Donna & Charlie Adelson Behind Bars: Tantrums, Tablets, and Toe Trauma-WEEK IN REVIEW Dan Markel was murdered in 2014 in one of the most shocking custody-related hit jobs in American legal history. Now that two of the key players—Donna and Charlie Adelson—are behind bars, how are they handling it? Spoiler: Not well. In this voice-driven episode of Hidden Killers, we pull the curtain back on life behind bars for the once-powerful Adelsons. Donna's jailhouse meltdown just nine days after her conviction is fully documented in prison logs—loud sobbing, door-pounding, and furious rants about judges and jurors, all while she unknowingly feeds jailhouse informants. Meanwhile, Charlie Adelson, convicted of murder, has his own jailhouse drama. Caught on video by Spill the Crime Tea, Charlie explodes over his big toe being run over by a jail door. He spews racial slurs, berates staff, then folds like a lawn chair when a lieutenant arrives. This isn't a story of redemption. It's the unraveling of a family that thought the rules didn't apply to them. We dig into: – The official jail logs documenting Donna's outbursts – Charlie's unhinged toe tirade caught on camera – What these behaviors tell us about entitlement, narcissism, and collapse – How the Adelsons are adjusting—or failing to—in the harsh reality of incarceration Welcome to the downfall. No more dental dynasty. Just inmate numbers, cold walls, and tablets that barely charge. Watch now and decide for yourself: are the Adelsons victims of injustice, or just finally out of excuses?

In this episode, we are joined by Elie Hassenfeld, Co-Founder and CEO of GiveWell to discuss how data, transparency, and moral trade-offs can guide charitable giving with maximum impact. Elie brings his background in finance and philosophy to the world of global philanthropy—explaining how GiveWell rigorously evaluates programs to determine which ones save or improve lives most effectively. We explore how GiveWell assesses cost-effectiveness, why transparency is a core organizational value, and how moral weights shape grantmaking priorities. Elie also opens up about the challenges of running a high-stakes nonprofit that directs nearly $400 million annually, why global health interventions are often overlooked by traditional donors, and how they navigate philosophical dilemmas like saving a life versus doubling someone's income. This conversation blends finance, ethics, and effective altruism into a compelling framework for anyone who wants to do the most good with their giving.   Key Points From This Episode:   (0:01:00) Why charitable giving is a financial decision—and why it deserves evidence-based thinking. (0:02:20) GiveWell's mission: Using rigorous research to direct donor funds where they'll do the most good. (0:03:44) How Elie's frustration with vague charity claims led him to co-found GiveWell in 2007. (0:08:35) The scope of impact: GiveWell's 80-person team now directs ~$395M annually. (0:10:43) The weight of responsibility: Why directing hundreds of millions of dollars is both gratifying and stressful. (0:12:22) Radical transparency: Publishing internal debates and mistakes as a matter of principle. (0:13:06) GiveWell's core values: Maximize impact, transparency, truth-seeking, and deep consideration. (0:16:25) How GiveWell differs from traditional charity evaluators (like those focused on overhead ratios). (0:18:15) The business model: GiveWell is a nonprofit funded by donors—no cut taken from giving funds. (0:21:20) Who gives: A mix of finance and tech professionals across the U.S., Canada, and the UK. (0:22:16) EA and SBF: How distancing from the effective altruism label insulated GiveWell from the fallout. (0:24:04) GiveWell's four criteria for evaluating programs: Evidence, cost-effectiveness, room for more funding, and transparency. (0:29:45) How GiveWell identifies top charities—through academic research, NGO outreach, and sector immersion. (0:31:07) Current top charities: Against Malaria Foundation, Malaria Consortium, Helen Keller Intl, and New Incentives. (0:34:31) Why GiveWell shifted to global poverty after early comparisons showed massive cost-effectiveness differences. (0:39:24) Why the cost to save a life is higher than people think—nets don't reach everyone, and malaria risk is probabilistic. (0:43:27) How GiveWell measures “good”: lives saved, health improved, income increased—standardized into one metric. (0:46:47) Moral weights matter: Why GiveWell equates saving a life with doubling 100 families' income. (0:50:37) Where moral weights come from: surveys, literature, and direct community input from Kenya and Ghana. (0:53:44) Letting donors tweak the model: Tools exist to adjust for your personal moral priorities. (0:54:57) Do top charities cannibalize each other's impact? (Spoiler: Not really.) (0:56:20) Capacity assessment: How GiveWell determines how much money an organization can productively absorb. (1:00:15) Why even on-the-ground observations (like chlorine testing methods) shape their assessments. (1:01:27) Why evidence matters—especially when trying to help people you'll never meet. (1:03:55) Elie's personal definition of success: Deep relationships, personal growth, and demonstrable impact. We discuss how the forward group may look for the upcoming season, and different scenarios if the team can't bring in reinforcements this off-season. We look back at the "rebuild trades" from the spring of 2019 and analyze what remains of those deals. Spoiler: Not much. If changes are coming, we believe they'll be through trade and not free agency. We talk about what Shane Pinto's next deal may look like and will he have to move to the wing to get into the top six? If the Senators are considering a defenceman at next month's draft, we discuss the three players who will be available to them with their first selection at seventh overall. In addition, we assess the future of Parker Kelly and his probable re-signing, while also wondering if an Ehlers for Chychrun deal makes sense.

Hey there, Heathen Nation! Episode 57, "Cocks in Foxes," is rolling out like a red carpet of absurdity and amusement. First off, let's break out the confetti – after a 9-month job hunt, we've finally struck gold! It's a mix of relief, triumph, and a bit of 'Why the heck did this take so long?' Now, let's talk mini-musicians. We're dissecting the world of 7 to 6-year-old rappers – one's a lyrical genius in the making, and the other... well, let's just say their talent is more 'hidden.' And for a twist you didn't see coming: Bat-Boyfriend! No, not the hero Gotham deserves, but a guy who's convinced he's Batman. His girlfriend's so over his caped crusades that she's taking him to Dr. Phil. Is this love in a bat cave or just an episode of 'What am I doing with my life?' And for the juicy finale: a date night revelation. Imagine finding out your date has a tattoo that's... let's just say, less than ideal. Did it stop the evening's escapades? Spoiler: Not really. It's a tale of surprising ink and even more surprising decisions. Got a job hunt story or a tattoo tale to tell? Call us: (305) 537-6447 Remember, life is too short for boring stories. The joke is that the difference between conspiracy theories and conspiracy facts is about six months. Well, this is an era of conspiracy facts, especially with the three-letter agencies enjoying a total lack of accountability and transparency. Over the course of his 17 years in the military, Tim Kennedy accrued medals, badges, and tabs, including a Bronze Star. A lot of things have changed since he left, and now he's critical of the government's fight against free society, including the unconstitutionality of the FBI. Tim holds a tough line on the primacy of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. This episode is rich with details about the frightening state of geopolitics. Tim's expertise in special ops and intelligence informs his expertise on an array of topics, including the Nord Stream pipelines. His experience in Ukraine has shown him the deep corruption fueling the country's conflict. At the same time, the way Russia fights wars reveals the way that communism and socialism really work (SPOILER: Not great!). Tim also discusses his upcoming trip to Sudan, where two competing coups are brewing. His coalition Save Our Allies works to save lives on foreign soil. Tim and Glenn also discuss Tim's work on the History Channel show “Hunting Hitler,” which examines the theory that Hitler survived the Siege of Berlin and relocated to Argentina. (Apparently there are fight clubs in Argentina?) Glenn and Tim examine the complicated history of WWII, including the long-lasting effects of Operation Paperclip. Most of all, Glenn and Tim discuss the state of America today. “The military is always a byproduct of what our society is doing,” he tells Glenn. “And our society is woefully broken.” The power used to belong to the people, Tim tells Glenn. Not any more. Now is the time for the individual person. The response to Bud Light has shown that we, the people, still have the power; it's only a matter of coming together: “There's no scarier group than a unified America.”  SPONSORS: Right now, you can save $200 on an EdenPURE Thunderstorm Air Purifier 3-pack for whole-home protection. A BIGGER BOAT: BROKEN ROBOTS  Co-host Ken is joined this episode by saucy songstress Andi to talk her favorite and least favorite Spielberg.JAWS (1974) is about a broken robot shark hungry for love. You all know the story. Spielberg was in full-on genius mode as a twelve-year-old (sourcing needed) directing JAWS and is famous for a broken mechanical shark necessitating making it unseen for most of the movie. A.I. (2001) is about a broken robot boy hungry for love. Spielberg mopped up after the greatest filmmaker of all time, Stanley Kubrick, developed A.I. for decades. Spielberg got full screenwriting credit despite much of certain sections being verbatim from Kubrick's and Ian Watson's written work prior to Kubrick's untimely, tragic, something-cinema-may-never-recover-from, death in 1999. Hey, Spielberg cut out all the robot sex scenes - because OF COURSE he did. Kubrick's films are often better 20 years later than upon their initial release. They age extremely well. How does Spielberg's version of Kubrick handle a two-decade reappraisal?
