Val Verde Vertical Film Festival with BriTANickSeason Six Finale!BriTANicK are back in Val Verde for their second appearance in four years, and this time Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher are not trying to sell out Dingbat's. They're here to present their Hulu comedy Pizza Movie at the Val Verde Vertical Film Festival, where every movie is shown the way God, Marvin Scorsese and a heavily armed theater staff intended: cropped into an unforgiving vertical nightmare. On this Season Six finale of 108.9 The Hawk, Whisp Turlington and Geoff “The Angry Man” Garlock welcome Brian and Nick to discuss Pizza Movie, written and directed by McElhaney and Kocher. mUnfortunately, Val Verde has its own questions. Is Ryan Reynolds in Pizza Movie? No. Is the vertical cut mostly black bars and half a face? Yes. Will there be eight 40-minute local shorts before the movie? Absolutely. Are there snipers outside the theater? Pip pop. Also in this broadcast:Whisp recovers from the Classic Rock Divorce Karaoke Semifinals at Shooters Bar & Buffet.Art Spart tries to give traffic while still trapped inside Ocarina of Time. And Val Verde becomes an all-day, every-day Purge town.Series Seven of 108.9 The Hawk starts Monday, August 17th!Until then, enjoy a HAWK ROCK SUMMER! The very funny Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney had never seen David Cronenberg's The Dead Zone, so naturally we had to make them watch it and report back. You know Nick & Brian collectively as BriTANiK from their sketch work at SNL, their writing on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the two movies they have coming out this April: Pizza Movie, which they wrote and directed and is out now on Hulu, and Over Your Dead Body, hitting theaters this very weekend. So, what did they think of Cronenberg's film? Well, you'll have to listen and find out, but I will say that had just as many questions for Vespe and Breznican as the hosts had for them.

You know them as BriTANick https://www.britanick.com/ and their latest feature, “Pizza Movie” debuts on Hulu on April 3! Now Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher join Matt and Oren and reveal how they keep new ideas flowing. These guys have written for SNL and “It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and they were the voice of Comedy Central. But they learned a lot shooting this feature, their first departure from a run-and-gun, indie style.Working with DP Bella Gonzales highlighted both the freedom and constraints that come with a bigger budget. It was different, but at the end of the day, they found a way you can use to keep doing the things you always have, with your “travelling carnival family”.Matt and Oren chat about the science of timing. What's the cadence of comedy? Is there a science to timing and beats? And can you boil it down to a unifying theory of timing --- one where scary movies and funny movies are really the same art?Best of all, there's some honest talk about that constant feeling of “damn, what I'm seeing isn't what I'm really, really happy with”. And strategies you can use to move on, and not let it hamper your work.Follow BriTANick on https://www.youtube.com/c/britanick and https://www.patreon.com/BriTANicK--- Help Matts' film: https://wefunder.com/badfeelingHelp our Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/JustShootItPodMatt's Endorsement: the director's commentary for the "The Witch" by Nick Robinson on YouTubeOren's Endorsement: Go Kart kit for the Gyroor Hoverboard https://www.amazon.com/Rsq-Nylon-Shorts-Black-Medium/dp/B0FBLGQMSY?ref_=ast_sto_dp&psc=1Brian's Endorsement: "Nasal Fresh MD" nasal flushNick's Endorsement: Playboy Magazine's Collection of Interviews With Directors: the Book Hosted on Acast. “Pizza Movie” locks onto a very dumb, very specific crisis and rides it for all it's worth. After one terrible drug-based decision, the night keeps getting weirder, louder, and more desperate, with pizza becoming the only objective that matters. It keeps escalating without losing the thread, which is what makes it work. For all the bodily chaos and ridiculous panic, the movie understands something real about being that age: everything feels massive, nothing is in proportion, and sometimes your friends are the only reason the whole night doesn't completely implode.Written and directed by Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney, the film follows a group of college freshmen whose night turns surreal after they take a drug that will fry their brains without pizza. What begins as a quick trip two floors down spirals into sketch-comedy chaos with a genuine coming-of-age core. Led by Gaten Matarazzo, Lulu Wilson, and Sean Giambrone, the ensemble gives the film its heart. It earned a raucous standing ovation at SXSW.When the cast and filmmakers joined “The Discourse,” the chemistry clearly was not forced. They built it by hanging out, messing around, and growing into a believable unit.

Ep. 43- Café Meeting What a doozy! And, I truly hate to say this, technically Rumor is right about the facts. The intentions, however, is where she is mistaking our dear Adam for a menace. Adam finally hears back from Fulcrum, who will hopefully be able to give the trio some answers about who Rumor is. Adam, Bertram, and Dirk meet with Fulcrum in an Automaton Café where, um, they discuss the unlikelihood that Adam will come out of this with his reputation unscathed. (Did I put that the nicest way possible? Because what I really want to say is how irrefutably SCREWED he is…) While they're in the café, Adam becomes distracted as he thinks he sees someone from his past. Wait, no, it can't be them… Just as he is trying to work out who they might be, because he just can't put his finger on it, Fulcrum hears some disturbing news on the radio that could spell disaster for the city! The gang springs into action with Fulcrum at their side to see what's the matter. I wonder… What could be going on now?! Join us in this episode of Dice Heist: a D&D 5e actual play podcast. What Adam and Dirk may not have expected was what a vicious battle it would be! Though, they may even do well enough to earn a place on the podium... Adam is confronted by a strange figure making even stranger accusations, and doing so with a familiar tone of voice. This is where Adam wakes up, his thoughts immediately going to his friends in need.  With the Oblex on the loose in the city, Dirk and Bertram find themselves in conversation with Fulcrum, an automaton bounty hunter with a unique personality. They realize that the Oblex is capable of some sort of mass mind control, leading them to interrogating Nia and getting the answers… Join us in this episode of Dice Heist: a D&D 5e actual play podcast.   Be on the lookout for a new episode every Sunday and stay up-to-date by following us on Twitter @dice_heist. Ep. 28 Bertram's Bloodline - Bittersweet Victory Back to the action! Adam, taking advantage of his hidden position, takes a potshot at Nia. But doing so opens himself up for her deadly archers who strike Adam, causing him to fall to the ground bleeding out. Nia has other plans, focusing her efforts on freeing the Oblex. If there were a sign, it would show "0 days since last incident" as another unfortunate individual is eaten. Tibo, though very concerned about his paycheck, looks to Adam's condition, unsure how this will unfold… Join us in this episode of Dice Heist: a D&D 5e actual play podcast.   Be on the lookout for a new episode every Sunday and stay up-to-date by following us on Twitter @dice_heist. Ep. 27 Bertram's Bloodline - An Old Enemy Confronted Ready for some action? Dirk, Adam, and Tibo were able to remain hidden from Nia and her gang, giving them an advantageous position. Then BAM! Dirk accidentally gives away his position while trying for an attack. What a relief! He is able to find cover once more. Poor Tibo, somehow still not realizing how Dirk and Adam are, you know, the brave heroic type, has futile hopes of them leaving the fight. Kaboom! Dirk chucks in his last Capsule to do some damage. What will we find when the dust clears? Meanwhile, back at the Order of the Dragon's Blood — gives me the heebie-jeebies every time — Manfred is using a spell of electric shock that would put a certain emperor to shame *cue maniacal cackling*. Bertram is giving it his all to defeat the black orb's power, but is he strong enough? Ep. 26 Bertram's Bloodline - Raw Draconic Power I feel like the last thing you think of when joining a super cool sounding club called “The Order of the Dragon's Blood” is that there are actually rules and proceedings and blah blah blah. After swearing his oath, Bertram finds himself half listening to the boring meeting. However, it gets very interesting once a black orb is mentioned. And by “interesting” I mean all hell breaks loose as two large draconic creatures start to attack the members of the Order. Not only that, but the thirteen statues around the room go from inanimate to animate and join in the fray! Bertram, Brazof, and Manfred stick together at the start of the fight, though when they are left gagging from two of their opponents' breath attacks they begin to rethink their strategy. The trio - there seems to be many of those lately - splits up and Bertram, ever the charismatic bard, tries his Old Faithful: Fast Friends spell. Will that be enough though? Ep. 25 Where were we? Oh yes, EXPLOSION!!!!! Dirk makes good use of a poison capsule as he throws himself into battle with the cannon operators. Tibo, proving himself to be very useful indeed, moves up to the third floor and defends himself against the cannon operators on the ladder. After nearly being brought to his knees by a blow to the er hrm… family jewels… Adam scrabbles, amusingly so, up to the second floor.  When it seems like it's just the two heroes - and one honorary member - against the kobold's, a new opponent rear's their ugly head, revealing themselves to be someone from their past. Ep. 24 Bertram and his father arrive at a warehouse — not sketchy at all — and he decides that he needs to handle this on his own. Beyond the warehouse facade, he meets his father's Lord and gains insight into the “procedure,” whatever that means… Bertram pledges himself to this organization by taking a knee and not listening to the little voice inside his head telling him this could end very badly. Meanwhile, back at the hall of — oops, can't say that — Dirk, Adam, and Tibo are driving around the Balbarum district looking for the kobold gang when, suddenly, something explosive happens.
