But so many of those reforms fell short of their stated goals. Today, St. Louis leads the nation in police killings per capita.  As the nation continues to grapple with how to save Black lives from police violence, we’re partnering with The Missouri Independent to examine why police reform efforts so often fail. We follow a new generation of leaders who, as a part of the Ferguson movement, are finding new ways to change policing in the St. Louis region. Reporters Trey Bundy and Rebecca Rivas follow local activist Kayla Reed, who went from attending protests to organizing them. After years of frustratingly slow progress toward reform, Reed transformed herself into a political powerbroker who is upending city politics. And there’s no way to talk about police reform without talking about the power of police unions. We look how the St. Louis Police Officers Association, the city’s main union, formed to protect white police officers from accountability after beating a Black man. And we talk with James Buchanan, one of the city’s few Black police officers in the 1960s, who went on to help start the Ethical Society of Police, a union founded by Black officers to fight for racial equity in the department and community. Responsibility, Fairhope and other municipalities in the area have canceled 4th of July fireworks. The SEC and NCAA demand the State of Mississippi remove the confederate battle flag from being displayed as a portion of their state flag; Capt. Raines, as a native, weighs in. We watch Matthew McConaughey have an uncomfortable conversion that launches us into such a nebulous argument that it led to the discussion of not releasing this video, but in the end it is an honest disagreement based on race, history, bias of positions, and perception. According to cited sources 1,000 people are killed at the hands of law enforcement each year when being taken into custody. Of these 25 % are black (African American) when this demographic only represents 13% of the population. But take into consideration that his demographic also commits 50% of all violent crime….we disagree, enough said (See Time Magazine, John McWorter assoc prof of English at Columbia University). We watch a police video from Dallas, Texas of Tony Timpa’s death (a mental patient who called the police for help). No malice on the part of law enforcement here, just a complete lack of training in this area of interaction. And then we go back to Ferguson, Missouri related to the death of Michael Brown and hear from Officer Darren Wilson, the only person left alive to tell the tale. In the meantime, monuments and statues are going on the bonfire. Teddy Roosevelt is too controversial for New Your City and protesters were “shooed away” after trying to topple Andrew Jackson in Lafayette Square in Washington D.C. The media has been fanning the flames of the Black Lives Matter protests that have spread throughout the country. On this week's episode of the Scoop we are DEBUNKING one of the media's biggest lies about Black Lives Matter, one of their favorite chants, “Hands up, don't shoot.” This phrase is a complete lie that stems from the shooting of Michael Brown in 2014. After the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, a false rumor spread that Brown was surrendering and said “Hands Up Don't Shoot” before he was shot and killed execution style by Police Officer Darren Wilson. The myth was spread by the media and prominent leaders in the Black Lives Matter movement. And as we've seen over the past couple weeks, it still exists today. But it's a lie, and we have the documentary evidence to prove it. In 2015, Phelim wrote a verbatim play, Ferguson, which used only dialogue and evidence from the grand jury proceedings for Officer Darren Wilson. After some 5 months battling brain cancer, DJ Wilson returns to the studio with a friend of the show, Professor Todd Swanstrom. DJ starts his interview by discussing a conversation he had with Swanstrom just hours before the St Louis region learned that there would be no trial for Officer Darren Wilson (no relation), who had killed Mike Brown in Ferguson some three months earlier.  You can read a piece DJ wrote the next day, reflecting on the protests and his recorded conversation with Swanstrom right here. The mass of conflicting evidence released by prosecutors fed heated arguments about how and why Officer Darren Wilson killed Michael Brown last August in Ferguson, Missouri. The grand jury decided on November 24th not to indict Officer Darren Wilson. Regardless of how I feel about that personally, or any of the other events that have come to light in the weeks since then, it's important that we learn something from events like those of Ferguson, Missouri this past fall. With so many questions going unanswered or simply ignored, Ferguson, Missouri needs prayer, as they try to move forward.

This morning, Officer Darren Wilson talks and we go over the grand jury evidence that's been released. Plus, Thanksgiving travel could be a nightmare for many in the U.S. today. We originally had a totally different topic set for tonight's show, but after the unfortunate chain of events that took place on Monday, November 24th, we HAD to postpone our original topic to next week and cover this tragic event. Officer Darren Wilson faced Indictment for the fatal shooting of 18 year old Mike Brown and after a Grand Jury finished deliberating, they decided not to indict Officer Wilson on any of the charges he faced which included: 1st Degree Murder, 2nd Degree Murder, Voluntary Manslaughter and Involuntary Manslaughter. Officer Darren Wilson never faced one day of jail time for gunning down Michael Brown in cold blood after which Mike Brown was left lying face down in the middle of the street in front of the citizens of Ferguson for 4 hours before his body was eventually taken away. If it were a regular citizen that gunned down Michael Brown but claimed "Self Defense" as Officer Darren Wilson claimed, do you think he would've had to face a Grand Jury just to see if he would get indicted, or do you think he would've been immediately arrested, indicted, and would've had to await trial to plead his innocence? Trayvon Martin, Jordan Davis, Eric Garner, Mike Brown, and those are just some of the High Profiled Cases. The list sadly goes on and on. The question is when is it enough, and when will justice finally prevail on the black side of the coin for a change? Why are people given a License To Kill Blacks? What is the Justice System going to do to ensure the safety, protection, and well-being of the Black African American and other non-white citizens?
