Ken Fisher joins host Ron Aaron and co-host Carol Zernial to talk about The 100th Fisher House on this edition of Caregiver SOS. About Ken Ken is the chairman and CEO of Fisher House Foundation, a leading nonprofit serving service members, veterans, and their families through a network of nearly 100 comfort homes where families of ill and injured veterans and military members can stay at no cost while receiving treatment far from home. Under his leadership, the program has grown exponentially, advancing accessibility within the houses and expanding to support healing through adaptive sports. In addition to these roles, Ken currently serves as co-chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum and served as the chairman of the 2016 Invictus Games in Orlando, Florida. In 2007, Ken was appointed by the Bush Administration to the President’s Commission on Care of America’s Returning Wounded Warriors and has served on several policy boards and round tables, in support of former U.S. Secretaries of Defense Ashton Carter, Chuck Hagel, and Jim Mattis. Ken attended Ithaca College and received an honorary Doctorate of Commercial Science from the University in May 2016, among other recognitions including being named one of America’s Best Leaders by U.S. News & World Report. Most recently, he received the West Point Association of Graduates’ Sylvanus Thayer Award for 2022. Additional distinctions form a long list of honors from organizations, including the United States Marine Corps, the Department of Defense, the Department of Veteran Affairs, HillVets, the Friends of the Vietnam Memorial, and many others. He lives in New York with his wife, Tammy. Ken is a proud father of three children and two grandchildren. In this third instalment of our four-part Remembrance Special, our hosts travelled to the Province of Warwickshire to visit Fisher House, a respite care centre supporting UK military personnel and their families worldwide. Fisher House offers an invaluable "home away from home" for the families of UK armed forces personnel receiving treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. They provide families with accommodation in a warm, non-clinical environment, allowing them to stay near their loved ones during difficult times. Warwickshire Freemasons have chosen to support Fisher House as part of a major charitable initiative leading up to their Tercentenary celebrations in 2028. They recognised that Fisher House provides a unique and essential service to military families across the UK and saw it as a perfect fit for their long-term fundraising goals.

Sergeant First Class Chris Corbin entered military service in July 1995. Prior to becoming a Green Beret with the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), he served in various Army units such as the 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division (1995-1999), and the 1st Battalion, and 75th Ranger Regiment (1999-2002). On February 17th, 2011, Corbin was on his third tour to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). That day, he was on patrol with his Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA) through a village in the Helmand Province, when he stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and suffered injuries to both legs resulting in a bilateral, below-the-knee (Bilat BK) amputation. On March 24th, 2012, 13 months after his injury, Chris, with his Green Beret father, Master Sergeant Nelson Corbin, ran his first 5K race to benefit the Fisher House on Eglin Air Force Base. His determination and will coupled with the support and motivation provided by his father and teammates enabled Chris to finish his first race in 27 minutes and 34 seconds.
