Captivated: Eyes Like Fire and Feet Like Burnished Bronze There is a connection in scripture between where your eyes are looking and what your feet are standing on. It is not a matter of whether you are captivated, the question is what are you captivated by. Fear has the power to overpower and blind us, captivating us with its power, but there is someone great who is inviting us to put our eyes on him. I'm close enough to see the Pasadena fires from my work at the hospital. I'm humbled to have my home. I'm grateful for the safety of my family. I'm praying for the first responders and firefighters. I'm mourning with those who have lost more than I know. As someone who values books, it is not lost to me that they are just words on paper. The books themselves are of little value — but the stories, the ideas, and the messages are what moves us. That's the power that's worth preserving. God used the imagery of fire to describe how his word would burn up the deceiving lies and empty promises of the false prophets. I pray that this would be a wake up call for all of LA. My heart is heavy, but my eyes are opened. Jesus Christ burns bright. As soon as I finished recording this video, I got a text to be ready for potential evacuation. We're okay — but the churches in my network as well as personal friends and family have evacuated and lost homes. Your prayers are much appreciated. https://youtu.be/9US39fYDe60 Links https://www.diveindigdeep.com/ https://newsletter.diveindigdeep.com/ https://www.instagram.com/diveindigdeep https://www.youtube.com/@soundwordsfm https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/soundwords

Although Nibbāna is beyond all description and can not possibly comprehended by the thinking mind through language and concepts, the Buddha still used various similes to convey some idea to us what Nirvāṇa is all about. In particular, many times he compared the eperience of Nibbāna to a fire gone out. However, there's a big problem with that simile nowadays: Our current understanding how fire functions is very different from the theory of fire in ancient India. In our time, after a fire has gone out, we simply regard it as non-existant. But that would be a serious misunderstanding regarding the experience of Nibbāna. The statement that an enlightened person after death doesn't exist anymore has been explicitely rejected by the Buddha as not applicable (of course, to state that he exists is just as inapplicable). In ancient India, fire was regarded as 'clinging' to the fuel dependent on which it burns. When the fire goes out (e.g. through exhaustion of its fuel), the fire is released and enters a non-manifest state. Indian's at the time of the Buddha would not see an extinguished fire as non-existant. Instead, they believed an extinguished fire is simply freed from its entrapment to the fuel, and has entered a state in which it can't be defined or described. Fresh off the release of another fantastic track, Mara Sol was kind enough to drop in for an in-depth interview to discuss her latest, “Like Fire”. Mara Sol's latest release "Like Fire" is a captivating indie folk and pop gem that highlights the singer, songwriter, and producer's immense talent and musicianship. Hailing from Coachella Valley, California, Sol is a natural born musician who started singing in musical theater from the young age of 7, eventually training in classical voice at Cornish College in Seattle, Washington. Getting to interview her was honestly the cherry on top to our many listens of the single, which is why we're urging everyone out there to take a moment and give our conversation a spin. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wewriteaboutmusic/support

National Burn Awareness Week, by the American Burn Association, is a week dedicated to educating and sharing information with our communities about the prevention of burns. This year, National Burn Awareness Week is held from February 5th-11th and will focus on spreading awareness of preventing scald burn injuries with the title of the week “Hot Liquids Burn Like Fire,” focusing on scald burns. A scald burn, unlike other types of burns, is often caused by something wet, such as water or steam. In 2015-2019, NFPA reported that cooking was the leading cause of reported home fires and home fire injuries and the second leading cause of home fire deaths. In addition, non-fire cooking-related burns far exceed the number of reported home cooking fires, with approximately 70,000 cooking-related burn visits to U.S. emergency departments annually from 2015-2019. In this episode, we talk with a scald burn survivor about her healing journey, how she found Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, and what inspires her to give back through sharing her story as a Phoenix SOAR (SURVIVORS OFFERING ASSISTANCE IN RECOVERY) Peer Supporter. In addition, we'll focus our episode on ways to prevent scald burn injuries and share tips from scald burn survivors. About Jane Fayer Jane Fayer was burned in a scald accident on her birthday and the day before her father's funeral in October 2020 in the middle of the pandemic. She is a hidden burn survivor and was connected to the Phoenix Society a few months later, which played a large role in her recovery. She is a SOAR Peer Supporter and frequently moderates the Wednesday evening FB chats. Jane has been working in the pharmaceutical industry in various clinical development positions for the last 25 years. She is currently a consultant specializing in contracts for outsourced clinical trials. In her spare time, she loves walking, Pilates, reading, and kayaking. Today Lanie Beth leads us through Daniel 9 and 10. In these passages, we'll learn how Daniel's prophetic dreams and visions connect to several other scriptures, which all display the perfect nature of God's plan. In Daniel's visions of idols and encounters with spiritual beings, we're reminded that idolatry only produces desolation. May our hearts only be consumed with the holy, purifying fire of God.
