An electronic music aficionado since he first heard the melodic, downtempo Trance compilation album Transit, Dirty Motive has taken his sweet time with electronic music; absorbing each element of the countless sub-genres, one at a time, to better understand why this music makes people move the way that it does and why we love it so much. A talented performer, he is appreciated for his creative approaches to festival production, fire performance, slam poetry and comedy. Currently however, music is his main squeeze and he has enjoyed recent praise for his improvisational style and fast-thinking versatility on the decks. When I asked today's guest DJ if he would put a little something together for us I was kinda surprised by the realization that this is his first mix for Beat Soup.  Clearly an oversight on my part, 'cuz Vitamindevo is a well known staple in the SF underground house scene, a fantastic DJ & producer, and a helluva nice guy to boot.  So, my apologies for taking so long to introduce you to this immensely talented soul . . . and with that, make sure to grab a napkin 'cuz this bowl of soup is gonna get MESSY! BIO:Vitamindevo’s genre of choice is tech house, but he loves mixing it with spacey breaks, dub-tech, deep house, and acid elements. Music has always been his preferred form of therapy since he was young enough to hear and would spend hours banging on the drums in his parent’s basement studio jamming to the sounds of 60′s and 70′s rock. Thankfully he never lost his obsession with music. In college he was first introduced to the electronic music scene in Florida, then after moving to Brooklyn in 2004, he began to be influenced by the industrial synchronicity, depth and scale of New York. Vitamindevo has now been a part of the scene for over fourteen years, including ten spent DJing and producing, and he has no desire to slow down now! He has performed up and down the East and West Coasts, at clubs, warehouses, forests and deserts in NYC, SF, LA, Northern California, and Nevada as both Vitamindevo and his old duo 3l3tronic while part of Robot Heart the early years. He has collaborated with Truth Now, Bianca Dino, Nico Tower, Stillwell, etc. His newest side project Gydyr, is a bass-focused alter-ego, that he has performed as at Warfield opening for Knife Party, as well as being an Insomniac Discovery Project winner. You don’t go to a Vitamindevo show to sit, you go to see the speakers explode with energy on a sweat-drenched dance floor where time seems to stand still. His shows are a multi-dimensional experience brought to life with him dancing with you while weaving layers of rich digital components. The only thing better than getting lost in his music is looking up and seeing him dancing right along with you.

Will Levine, from the Ninjaskillz crew, sent over a new deep house mix he recorded recently and asked if I'd be interested in turning it into soup.  I said yes, of course, without even listening to it, knowing Will would deliver the goods.  And, as you would surmise, he does. This marks Will's 2nd mix for Beat Soup.  His first round was episode #79 almost exactly one year ago.  Check it out, contrast and compare! BIO: It all began around the time of Burning Man 2009 when DJ Saynt decreed that Will Levine would one day become a DJ! After conferring with divaDanielle at the Burn, it was decided that she would become his Sensei in the fine art of making booties shake! Episode 121 of Beat Soup is coming from North County San Diego, from the one we know as Deep Jesus.  One of the OG's of the Jungle turned Desert Hearts crew, the sounds that come from Deep Jesus have always been top notch yet somehow continue getting better and better. We would recommend doing what you need to do, just shy of actually killing someone, to get your ass to the next Desert Hearts gathering.  It's coming right up at the end of April, and makes for the perfect warm up for Lightning In A Bottle. Max Magee, AKA Fritz Carlton, is a 21 year-old American underground House music producer who currently resides in the musically eclectic city of San Francisco. Originally hailing from Seattle, Fritz is now deeply entrenched within the Bay Area electronic music scene in both live performance and his own music. He also produces under the alias Solicitors, a duo comprising of himself & Jayko, a fellow Bay Area producer. Fritz draws clear influence from both the refined, dark Tech and Booty Bass sounds of the Bay Area and the smooth SoCal vibes of Los Angeles, where he first heard delved into electronic music and eventually House while attending college as a percussion major. 2013 saw a very significant spike in Fritz’s dedication towards all things House - with an EP coming soon on Perfect Driver Music and another in the near future with Grooverdose, 2014 is sure to be a solid year for this cat. For those that have been around in the LA electronic music scene for more than a minute will know this week's special guest.  Jason Blakemore has been doing his thing for longer than most of us can remember, becoming a straight up icon in the West coast rave scene and playing every big festival SoCal has to offer.  His bio really sums it up best: Jason Blakemore is one of the original Los Angeles house/rave DJs.  He has graced the stage at almost every major festival in the Southern California area. He has played at Coachella, EDC, Jujubeats, Nocturnal and Fresh. His name and skills are known all over the U.S. and internationally.  Jason has run three record labels: Bassex, Life Music and currently Fiveleg.  Blakemore has been part of music projects with Markus Schulz, The Chemical Brothers, Garth, Wally Callerio and 6blocc.  He produced the hit songs “PURE”, “Suspicion” and many others.  He is a down to earth person and an amazing live performer; his quick mixing skills have captivated fans for more than two decades.  Slicing and splicing records back and forth, he is the true definition of an old school DJ still insisting on taking the crowd on a journey with every set. Quick Facts: From Los Angeles, United States. In 2008, he moved on from his career in volcanic hazards in New Zealand to return to Lake Tahoe, where he lives with his wife Kirsten and works as a GIS cartographer and a landscape and timelapse photographer.When he's not making maps or taking pictures, Grant likes to weld and make fire art for Burning Man. Addicted to music at a very young age Sammy was a skilled mix-tape DJ, but it wasn't until he found himself in LA that the door opened for him to House music and the scene that went with it. Sammy was introduced to Jesse Wright through a mutual friend in 2002 and that was pretty much the beginning of the end. Together Sammy and Jesse formed Pocket Underground and starting throwing parties in a warehouse location right in the center of Hollywood. Shortly thereafter Sammy took a credit card to Guitar Center and bought his first pair of Technique 1200's. Since then Sammy has made asses shake all over the West coast, from San Fran to Mexico. He's had the immense honor of playing every year at Coachella since 2007, his crew Pocket Underground held a monthly residency at the mega-club Spundae LA from 2005-2007, and Sammy and Jesse run the Woogie Stage at the annual green festival Lightning in a Bottle where they've booked talent ranging from Lee Burridge, to Sandra Collins, John Tejada, Claude VonStroke, Nick Warren, Jay Tripwire and many more. He's played several times at the SF LoveFest Parade (So fun!!), Avalon Hollywood, Burning Man, Elysium Festival, Fuente Eterno, and more underground parties than you can shake a stick at. Having recently moved to the San Francisco East Bay area, 2011 is looking better than ever. With gigs at Coachella, The Alchemy Festival and Lightning in a Bottle in the immediate future, Sammy will be branching into the SF scene and is working out the details for a gig in Santa Fe this summer. Sammy's deep connection to the dirty, chuggy 4/4 always keeps the crowd riding his wave of delicious tech house and chunky techno right into the dawn. He loves connecting to each and every person on the dance floor as they journey together down the rabbit hole of funky beats.
