Navigating the New SEO Landscape: Adapting to AI and Changing Consumer BehaviorIn a recent episode of "The Thoughtful Entrepreneur," host Josh engages in a thought-provoking conversation with Nick Musica, the founder and CEO of Optics In, LLC., a company specializing in SEO services. The episode delves into the current landscape of SEO, the challenges posed by emerging AI technologies, and practical strategies for businesses, particularly small enterprises, to improve their online presence. Here, we break down the key insights and actionable advice shared by Nick Musica, providing a comprehensive guide for businesses looking to enhance their SEO efforts.Nick Musica, based in San Diego, brings a wealth of experience in the SEO field. His company, Optics In, LLC., primarily serves small businesses, typically those with around 50 employees or fewer. Nick's insights are grounded in his extensive work with a diverse range of clients, making his advice particularly relevant for small business owners. One of the main themes of the episode is the misconception that SEO is "dying." Nick explains that while many marketing channels have faced challenges and changes over the years, SEO remains vital. People still use search engines like Google to find products and services, making SEO an essential component of any digital marketing strategy.Nick acknowledges that the SEO landscape is shifting due to the rise of AI tools like ChatGPT and platforms such as TikTok. While some users may turn to these alternatives for information, a significant number still rely on traditional search engines. Therefore, businesses must adapt their strategies to meet their audience where they are. Nick discusses the implications of AI on SEO practices, noting that many businesses have attempted to leverage AI to generate content at scale. However, this often results in poor-quality material that fails to meet Google's standards. While AI can be a useful tool for brainstorming and content structuring, it should not replace the need for high-quality, relevant content.About Nick Musica:Optics In, LLC's founder and CEO is Nick Musica, who has worked in digital marketing since 2003.Nick co-authored When Search Meets Web Usability, a book about SEO and web usability, in April of 2009.He taught a masters-level class on User Experience at NYU and has presented at SMX in Germany and ClickZ in San Francisco.About Optics In, LLC:Optics In, LLC has been assisting websites in improving their rankings on Google, Bing, and other search engines since 2019. As we head into a new year, you might be looking for opportunities to uplevel your business, and one great way to do that is to attend networking events that will help you connect with other designers and vendors. I'm excited to share an event with Cosentino coming up in February, and Cosentino's Regional General Manager Scott Newhan and Account Manager Jason Shephard are joining me on this episode to give us all the details! Scott and Jason talk about the history of the C.Next event, what designers can expect when they attend, and highlights from the event's agenda. They also share with us their personal journeys into the design world, what makes Cosentino special (including their commitment to the environment and sustainability), and other opportunities to connect with the Cosentino business and brand. If you want to start 2024 off with some inspiration and a fresh networking opportunity, tune into this episode to see if this event is right for you!About Scott NewhanScott started his career a little over 30 years ago as a warehouse worker at Morena Tile on Morena Blvd. He worked hard and was able to work his way up through the ranks. In 2001, he started with Import Stone as an outside sales rep and worked his way up to GM of the San Diego location. In 2008, Cosentino bought Import Stone and he has been with Cosentino ever since. He ran the San Diego location until 2016, and was then promoted to the GM of the Anaheim HUB. He was able to grow the sales there and won GM of the year, commercials sales of the year, and many container sales contests. In June of 2023, he was promoted to Regional General Manager covering Anaheim/San Diego and Las Vegas. He has thoroughly enjoyed his over 15 years with Cosentino and plans to continue until retirement. For his hobbies, he enjoys off-roading in the desert. He is also an avid shooter, a landscape painter, and is now on his way to becoming a private pilot. About Jason ShephardJason first entered the construction industry as a freshman in high school working for his father's company in Illinois. His father owned and operated a countertop fabrication and installation company, and Jason worked in the shop, learning to fabricate and install countertops. Later he learned digital/laser templating, CAD drawings/layouts, and CNC programming/operating. He got married in 2006 and in 2013, moved back to his wife's hometown to be near her family in North County San Diego. He started his first sales job for a fabrication company in Escondido, where he learned in-home sales and worked with designers to bring their clients' kitchen and bath dreams to life. This introduced him to many San Diego designers. In early 2021, he made the move to Cosentino as part of the San Diego sales team. In this role, he represents the Cosentino brands–Silestone, Dekton, and Sensa granite–in the professional market. He works with and supplies architectural surfaces to designers, kitchen studios, fabricators, contractors, and other industry professionals for their clients and projects. Episode 84 is a conversation between myself, Lia Friedman and Britt Neubacher celebrating the life of artist and musician Rick Froberg. Lia and Britt have been friends for decades and the two were close friends of Rick's going back to the 80's. Britt tells us how in recent years her relationship with Rick transformed into an intimate partnership that she felt was still only beginning at the time of his untimely death. While Britt is a new friend of mine, I've known Lia since we were classmates at San Dieguito HS in Encinitas, California.  The two share their memories of coming of age in the vital and influential North County San Diego punk/post-hardcore scene of the 80's and 90's, a scene that produced bands like Crash Worship, Heavy Vegetable, Boilermaker, powerdresser and Rick's bands Pitchfork and Drive Like Jehu among others. Of course, most of the conversation focuses on celebrating the immensely talented, perpetually intellectually curious, self-educated, complicated genius that was Rick Froberg the man and the artist and musician. Get ready for an inspiring episode of the Same Business Different Day Podcast! Join us as we sit down with Jim Ambroso, the General Manager of EDCO in North County San Diego, and our wonderful guest cohost, Rachel Beld, CEO of the Vista Chamber of Commerce. Together, we embark on a journey that's all about caring, community, and a relentless drive for a brighter future. Jim's story is one of humble beginnings, born in a small farming town in Wisconsin as the fourth of eight siblings and settled in Chicago at the age of 12. While childhood dreams of becoming a pilot or doctor swirled in his mind, it was during high school that his passion for social work began to bloom. Listen in as Jim shares his early leadership experiences managing teams cleaning apartment buildings, setting the stage for his future in waste management and recycling. His college years in Southern Illinois initially aimed at social work took a surprising turn toward geology, leading to a degree in environmental geology. In the 1980s, as environmental regulations took center stage, Jim found himself uniquely positioned to enter the world of waste management and recycling. Fast forward 35 years, and he's now the General Manager of EDCO Disposal's North County San Diego region. Notably, from 2015 to 2020, Jim played a pivotal role in developing innovative food waste recycling methods, processing over 100,000 pounds per hour. But that's not all; Jim's commitment to community extends to his role as Chairman of the Board for the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, where he actively contributes to the growth and well-being of his local community. Join us on this enlightening journey as Jim Ambroso unpacks his incredible story, showcasing the power of passion, perseverance, and a deep-rooted sense of community. Whether you're an aspiring environmentalist, a budding leader, or simply someone who believes in the potential of making the world a better place, this episode is a must-listen. Enjoy: "To enjoy something is to take delight or pleasure in something." Upcycling: “The act of taking something no longer in use and giving it a second life and new function. In doing so, the finished product often becomes more practical, valuable and beautiful than what it previously was.” Ed Lewis started his first business in 1996 right out of college and since then his goals have shifted significantly. In the beginning work was all about self and making a living… admitting that in his twenties he couldn't see too far past himself. photo credit: Nate Perraccini  In 2005 after experiencing the birth of his daughter, something shifted for him and he suddenly had a view of the world that was less about self and more about others. In 2010 he cofounded Enjoy Handplanes with the mission of making products from other peoples trash. It was a cool way to save broken surfboards, old wetsuits and production waste from going to the landfills while creating products that are fun to use and environmentally responsible. He describes this time as an awakening that got him thinking seriously about the environment and how doing business could actually have a positive impact on his community locally and globally. In the process of doing business he also became a filter for community and became a resource for people to drop off their trashed products. Over the past 10 years he has been a pioneer in the space of converting trash to beautiful, functional products and his business became a lab for him to think more and more outside the box. In this experience, he has learned valuable lessons along the way and has helped to inspire others around the world to do the same. His latest venture is Enjoy the Farm. Enjoy The Farm is a 9.5 acre upcycled maker space, learning center and regenerative rare fruit farm located in North County San Diego and is focused on DIY regenerative - food, water, energy, materials, shelter and soils. This passion driven endeavor created a space to come learn how to incorporate upcycling and holistic land management into lives and businesses, and most importantly cultivate community. This is definitely not just a story of a business evolution. Can we also upcycle what life tosses at us and to us? Yes Indeed, and Ed is the perfect example of an evolution of personal growth through regenerating experiences. This up cycled energy is infinite and will germinate and spread like collards.
