In the bustling world of the spirits industry, one brand stands out as a true beacon of patriotism and purpose – Heroes Vodka. Founded by Travis McVeigh, a Marine Corps veteran, this unique vodka brand is more than just a delicious spirit; it's a testament to the sacrifices and service of those who have dedicated their lives to protecting our nation. Travis shared his remarkable journey, from growing up in a small town in Indiana to becoming a decorated Marine and ultimately, an entrepreneur driven by a deep sense of duty and camaraderie. Travis' story is one of resilience and determination. Facing the challenges of his parents' divorce at a young age, he found solace and discipline in the military, joining the Army Reserves at just 16 and later transitioning to the Marine Corps. It was during his time at the prestigious Marine Barracks 8th and I in Washington, D.C., that Travis forged unbreakable bonds with two fellow Marines, Richard and Tommy, who would later become the inspiration behind Heroes Vodka. Tragically, both Richard and Tommy lost their lives in the line of duty – Richard as an Indiana state trooper and Tommy in Afghanistan. It was in the wake of these devastating losses that Travis found his true calling, determined to honor their memory and the sacrifices of all service members through his entrepreneurial endeavor. With a passion for service and a drive to succeed, Travis set out to create a vodka brand that would not only be a high-quality spirit but also a vehicle for giving back to the veteran community. The journey was not without its challenges, as Travis navigated the complexities of the spirits industry as a newcomer. However, through perseverance and a willingness to learn, Travis partnered with industry veteran Robert Lippmann. Together, they leveraged the buying power and expertise of industry giants like Buffalo Trace to create a product that could compete with established brands while maintaining an affordable price point. What sets Heroes Vodka apart is not just its exceptional taste, but the ethos that underpins the brand. Crafted from 100% American corn and free of gluten and glycerin, the vodka is a pure, high-quality spirit that can be enjoyed straight or in a variety of cocktails. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Heroes Vodka has continued to grow, expanding its distribution to several states and garnering recognition for its quality, with the brand winning multiple gold and silver medals. As the brand prepares to unveil a fresh, new look in the new year, Travis encourages supporters to reach out to their local retailers and request Heroes Vodka. Throughout the interview, Travis' resilience and compassion shone through. His message of "post-traumatic growth" – the idea that we can emerge from tragedy as better, more empathetic individuals – is a powerful testament to the human spirit. Travis' willingness to be vulnerable and share his own struggles serves as an inspiration to others who may be facing their own challenges, reminding us that even in the darkest of times, there is the potential for growth and triumph. The story of Heroes Vodka is one that transcends the boundaries of the spirits industry. It is a tale of friendship, sacrifice, and the unwavering determination of a veteran-turned-entrepreneur who is committed to honoring those who have served. Through his brand, Travis McVeigh is not only creating a high-quality product but also building a community that celebrates the unsung heroes of our nation. As we raise a glass to Heroes Vodka, we are also raising a glass to the men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedom. It is a testament to the power of resilience, the importance of community, and the transformative potential of turning tragedy into triumph. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wakeupwithpattikatter/support

"They've run hundreds of missions out here, and they're an incredibly nimble group. They create their missions the day before, and then they push out that morning with those missions." - Alex Jarbo, U.S. Marine Corps ‘13 - ‘17 This podcast is a slight departure from the regular SABM Podcast episode because of the hurricanes that have devastated communities in the southeastern U.S. For this episode, we interviewed Alex Jarbo, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, 10X Vets Member, and resident of Asheville, North Carolina – an area that has been heavily impacted by Hurricane Helene. Alex and a team of heroic volunteers are working to help local residents with rescue and reconstruction efforts. In this episode, Alex describes his first-hand experience of what's been happening on the ground and how people are coming together to help. To support their efforts, please consider donating to their GoFundMe campaign. How You Can Help As of this writing, 60 consistent volunteers, who will be up to 100 by this weekend, are running missions to help stranded, isolated, and hurricane-impacted residents in Western North Carolina There is an immediate need of $65,000 that will go towards chainsaws, fuel, and other supplies, with the eventual goal being $1,000,000, which will go into rebuilding roads and bridges in Western North Carolina. The team is doing incredible work. For example, there's an IV bag shortage and they were able to secure 10,000 IV Bags even before FEMA was able to, as FEMA is managing relief in multiple geographical areas impacted by multiple hurricanes. Equip Aerial Recovery Volunteers to Rebuild Western North Carolina After Hurricane Helene GoFundMe Updates on Instagram As a seasoned expert in the short-term rental industry, Alex Jarbo owns 16 successful properties and founded Open Atlas, an investment and management firm dedicated to developing and acquiring distinctive short-term rentals worldwide. Over the past seven years, Alex has coached over 5,000 students and provided personalized guidance to more than 300 individuals, helping them build thriving vacation rental businesses. He is the lead writer on short-term rentals for BiggerPockets, a real estate investing community, where his blog posts have reached over 500,000 readers in the past year. Alex's ambitious goal is to develop or acquire 1,000 unique micro resort units within the next five years. Prior to his entrepreneurial journey, Alex served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 4.5 years as part of the Honor Guard in Washington, D.C. He holds an MBA specializing in Real Estate Development and is completing a Doctorate in Business with a focus on Leadership. In this episode, we discuss: The unexpected impact of Hurricane Helene on inland areas, such as Asheville, North Carolina, including severe flooding, which has not been seen in over 100 years. The initial lack of communication and awareness about the severity of the storm, including the loss of cell phone reception, and the overwhelmed 911 emergency system. Alex and his wife turning their bed and breakfast property, Engadine Inn and Cabins, into a base for relief operations. The partnership with Aerial Recovery Group, a nonprofit organization specializing in disaster recovery, and how they joined forces to respond to the crisis. How relief efforts have evolved quickly, starting with an initial team of 8-10 volunteers, then 50, and with expectations the team will soon grow to more than 200 people. The diverse range of missions conducted by the relief team, including aerial rescues, road clearing, food and supply delivery, and medical assistance. The involvement of diverse helpers, including ex-special forces personnel, general contractors, electricians, and even local Amish taking horses into areas inaccessible to vehicles. The challenges faced by the local community, such as the collapse of Asheville's water system and the destruction of key infrastructure, including concrete and gravel factories. The fundraising efforts initiated by Alex and his team to support the relief operations, with a goal of raising $1 million. The focus on acquiring essential equipment, like heavy-duty chainsaws and communication gear, to enhance the efficiency of rescue and recovery operations. The potential long-term impact of these private relief efforts, emphasizing speed and flexibility, in responding to community needs. Born and raised in East Los Angeles, CA, Sal Gonzalez learned to sing in grade school while performing in the choir and quickly fell in love with the whole process. He later picked up playing guitar partially by learning from his self-taught father and partially by playing in bands with much better guitar players. Sal quickly started singing lead in bands throughout high school, having small success with his Spanish rock band “La Cabaña,” playing locally all-over Southern California. After the terror attacks of 9/11, Sal decided to serve his country and shifted his focus from music to being a United States Marine—a title he would later earn in late 2003. After training to become a machine gunner, Sal proudly served with the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines and would later be deployed to Iraq in the late summer of 2004. On October 31, 2004, Sal's vehicle was struck for the 7th time during that deployment, killing Lt. Matthew D. Lynch and severely injuring Sal and one other Marine Sal was flown to Bethesda Naval Hospital, where, after coming out of a weeklong coma, he learned the extent of his injuries. After more than 30 surgeries and 4 months of hospitalization, his left leg was amputated below the knee. Once healed, he was sent to San Antonio Medical Center in Texas, where he spent the next year learning to walk on his new prosthetic leg. Sal retired from the United States Marine Corps in late 2005 and, after a quick stay back home in Los Angeles, CA, he moved to Nashville, TN to pursue his dreams of songwriting and performing.

EP 116 - Jose Angel Cepeda, You Earned It Now Protect It We work so hard for our money and to build a life for us and for our family. The truth is that reality can strike at any time and tragic events can strip those things away in a moment. Luckily there are ways to invest for your future, especially to insure yourself and/or your family in case something terrible happens. Jose Angel Cepeda is a Child of God, Husband, Entrepreneur, Builder of Champions, Financial Professional, and a USMC Veteran. He has been in the Financial Services industry for 7 years and is doing his best to help people plan for a better future. What You Will Learn: How to protect your family financially in case of an emergency How Jose came out of the depression he was in after he left the Marines Why so many Americans struggle to keep any money in their savings accounts Why changing your perspective is typically the first step in changing your financial life What exactly is a business and how do they work? The difference between owning a business and being self employed How companies like McDonalds succeed without always having the best product in the market Why you should always be recruiting and training new people in your business Favorite Quote: “We live in America where we can have the American Dream… I want to be an example of that for my kids.” Jose Angel Cepeda Connect With Jose: Ezbachi How To Get Involved: Patrick Bolanos is a serial entrepreneur, business owner, and CEO of Trailer King Builders in Houston, Texas. He was raised in Nicaragua, exposed to extreme poverty, and also had the fortune of being exposed to life in the United States traveling back and forth to both countries. After college, Patrick's career took him into the corporate world of banking where he learned the important lessons of understanding what you're selling and why it's important to believe in it. Back in December of 2017, Patrick was fired from his job as a CFO for a Restaurant Group. With only $500 to his name, rent due, his wife, 3 children at home, and one on the way, he was forced to figure out how to pull his family out of this financial abyss that was strangling his life. With no knowledge of how to build a trailer, Patrick simply figured all of it out and has now built it into the thriving empire of what's now become Trailer King Builders. LinkedIn Facebook Instagram
