Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, fyrrverandi forseti Íslands, lýsti áhyggjum af framhaldi rannsóknasamstarfs á norðurslóðum á málþingi sem haldið var í Háskóla Íslands fyrr í vikunni. Málþingið var um mikilvægi samstarfsins. Ólafur Ragnar benti á að það hefði lengst af verið laust við afskipti alþjóðastjórnmála, vísindamenn hefðu lengi starfað í þeim anda að vísindin skipti öllu, stjórnmál ættu ekki að flækjast fyrir. En nú væri staðan önnur og Ólafur Ragnar velti fyrir sér hver áhrif innrásarinnar í Úkraínu yrðu, hvort samstarfið geti haldið áfram án Rússa og aðgangs að rannsóknarniðurstöðum þeirra í til dæmis í loftslagsmálum. Öllu samstarfi við Rússa var rift eftir innrásina í Úkraínu og engar horfur á að vísindasamstarf við þá verði tekið upp að nýju í bráð. Bogi Ágústsson ræddi þessi mál við Gunnar Stefánsson, prófessor í verkfræði við Háskóla Íslands, sem er að taka við stöðu aðstoðarrektors vísinda hjá Háskóla norðurslóða, sem hefur verið vettvangur vísindarannsókna á norðurslóðum. Að auki ræddu Þórunn Elísabet Bogadóttir og Vera Illugadóttir við Boga um loftárásir í Úkraínu og hvort líklegt væri að Erdogan léti af andstöðu við inngöngu Svía í Atlantshafsbandalagið eftir að hann var endurkjörinn forseti Tyrklands.
