Join Benny “The Playa” Scala and Brittany “Boston Bad Girl” Brown as they examine the infamous case of “Killer Sally.” Sally McNeil (born September 30, 1960) is an American former sergeant, professional female bodybuilder and muscle worship practitioner, who was convicted for the murder of her husband Ray McNeil, a Mr. Olympia competitor. On February 14, 1995, Sally called 9-1-1, telling them: "I just shot my husband because he just beat me up." Earlier in the night, Ray was on a date with Marianne Myers, a fellow member of Golds Gym, instead of Sally on Valentine's Day. Sally was about to go out and find where Ray was, but he turned up after 9:15pm. Sally claimed and maintains that she shot Ray in self-defense when he, spurred by roid rage, began choking her after she accused him of adultery. The police transcript reads that Ray, "slapped her, pushed her down on the floor, and started choking her. McNeil squirmed away, ran into the bedroom, and took her sawed-off shotgun out of its case in the closet." Sally then shot Ray twice: once in the abdomen and once in the jaw. We won't (bench) press you to watch this one…but you'll be pumped if you do! #killersally #sallymcneil #raymcneil #bodybuilding #truecrime

The bad news: Last fall, we recorded this episode and totally forgot to release it. But gosh, it is such a great documentary! The good news: We remembered it thanks to a listener suggestion and here it is cued up and ready for your listening pleasure! Killer Sally: After years of abuse, former Marine and bodybuilder Sally McNeil snapped on Valentine's Day 1995 and killed her husband Ray McNeil, also a former Marine and award winning bodybuilder. Their story is what true crime documentaries are made of. The backstory is compelling, the victim and her children are incredibly sympathetic, and the story is heartbreaking. Streaming on Netflix. We say goodbye to Vermont legend Ray McNeil. Then, how to resist the Bright and Shiny allure of new hopyard tools – or maybe they're just toys?
This week we are discussing how Sally McNeil shot and killed her husband of eight years, Ray McNeil, on Valentine's Day 1995. Sally claimed to have killed Ray in self-defense, citing years of abuse at the hands of Ray. But the prosecution painted a different picture, one where Sally killed Ray in a fit of jealous rage. In this episode we discuss the Netflix docu series Killer Sally about Sally McNeil and Ray McNeil, husband and wife bodybuilders and former Marines. Their marriage ended in 1995 when Sally shot and killed Ray on Valentine's Day and was later convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to 19 years to life in prison. Their extremely volatile relationship was fueled by trauma, abuse, domestic violence, steroid use and infidelity. Interviews with Sally and her two children from her first marriage drive this very well done documentary.

In the beachy, California town of Oceanside sits Camp Pendleton, and in 1995, a crime like no other was committed by a former Camp Pendleton Marine. On the night of Valentine's Day, former Marine Sergeant Sally McNeil found herself at the center of a murder when her husband, Ray McNeil, was shot and killed. After observing abuse in her family throughout her childhood, history repeated itself in Sally's second marriage when she became the victim of abuse by her husband, a former marine and fellow bodybuilder, and ultimately murdered him. While Ray was cheating on Sally, abusing her, and taking steroids throughout their marriage and careers as bodybuilders, Sally had many instances of aggression and violence against others, and the killing of Ray McNeil led to a sentence of almost 20 years in prison for Sally. “Ray was a cheater, cheater, pumpkin eater.” – TabithaIn today's episode, Tab shares the details of Ray McNeil's murder with Gretch and unpacks some of Netflix's recent documentary, Killer Sally.
