In this episode, our host Zeke Corley sits with Chris Kydd who has come a long way from his childhood aspiration of becoming a grocery store clerk. Chris is now the Publisher of the Coast News Group, a business started by his father in his garage in 1987. At a young age, Chris started on the ground floor with the Coast News. Learning to work in a family business isn't easy. He eventually went off to college, studied abroad, matured, and changed his perspective. He humbly accepts his current position as Publisher, and takes his job more seriously than he would if he hadn't. Keeping objective principles in these polarizing times isn't easy for a community paper, especially while many have been saying that “newspaper is dead” for over 10 years. Each and every story that we get to hear from all of our guests is unique, and that's why we never get tired of hearing new ones. How do you grow from being the neighborhood errand runner into cultivating neighborhoods? How do you turn the disappointment of lost opportunities into creating new opportunities for you and your family? For Gumaro, it starts with relationships. In this episode, we learn about how Gumaro built those relationships, and how he builds trust through sharing as well as smart planning. With all that he has going on, how does he balance business and pleasure. He admits that it isn't easy, but we don't doubt that he will see continued success. What a great story that he has to tell, and we're glad that we were able to capture it! Reach out to him at Main Street Oceanside, or by email at Gumaro@MainStreetOceanside.com. This week, our host Zeke Corley takes a break from his Same Business Different Day podcast to showcase his spinoff show, Network 1 on 1. You'll find some of the same entrepreneurs that have been interviewed on SBDD as guests here. Our listeners love to hear the stories of how our favorite business owners got to where they are today, but the story doesn't end there. How do many of these entrepreneurs stay engaged and find more business? For many, the answer is networking. With Network 1 on 1, Zeke plays matchmaker to business owners that he believes could benefit from each other, by sharing information with each other, working together, or becoming referral partners. In this episode, Zeke matches business owners in the fashion industry, all with their unique sense of style. That said, they still have plenty in common, including how difficult it is to navigate their industry. Together they discuss solutions to those issues, but also talk about their inspirations, stylistic choices, and going viral on social media. So much is being shared here. A perfect episode to introduce to our Same Business Different Day audience. Please find the show on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts and like and subscribe. As always, we appreciate the support of the other shows on the A Different Day Radio network, including those featured in this episode: Run It By My Lawyer, Odd Pairing, and Velocity- The Vista Chamber Podcast. In this episode of the Same Business Different Day podcast, Dominic Burtech teaches us how to use a "simplistic" mindset to build greatness. While many entrepreneurs that start with little or nothing ultimately effect their employees with their survival mindset, Dominic has adopted a different approach. His open door/ "let's learn together" policy has afforded him the opportunity to own multiple businesses locally. Although he's working underground at times, he doesn't belong under your radar. He has an enviable familial approach, but he also takes challenges seriously. Those who say that he can't, don't know Dominic. We are glad to have been joined by the unique and thoughtful Dominic Burtech. Wasim "The Dream" Hajjiri is back to update us on what he's been up to and how he stays motivated to do more after all of his past successes. While he continues building on his initial mission, he has fresh endeavors to share with us as well as describing his new spiritual journey. Honesty, wisdom, sharing, and caring like this doesn't always come in the same package. Wasim has such great access to the information that many of us haven't taken the time to consider, and he is more than willing to bless us with it. His newest bestselling book- "Fulfilled? How To Land A Job That Aligns With Your Purpose" is available now, and is a great follow up to the first book he shared with us just less than one year ago! This spectacular episode was a long time coming. Ramiro Guerra is a North County San Diego staple and we were fortunate that he took the time to share his story with us. Despite his early struggles in the formal education system, Ramiro found his way through real-life experience and working with others. Once he found his confidence, he tackled his dreams head on and became not only a student that rose to the top of his class, but also a teacher. Those that work with Ramiro or know him can verify that he is a treasure, and look to work with him at every opportunity. Enjoy this very honest conversation with the one and only Ramiro Guerra. Listen to this very good episode as we learn about a man who is as smart as he is fun. After immigrating with his family early in his childhood, Joe found solace in his love for education and looked up to people in professions that were out to help the "little guy". Joe shares his regret for not getting early corporate experience, and how that affected his performance at the start of his career. His ability to communicate to the masses, not just the "informed" helps him not only in his profession and as a teacher, but in his newest lives as a podcaster and a stand-up comedian as well. He even leaves us with some jokes at the end of the show! Enjoy this episode with the very interesting Joe Samo! In this episode of the Same Business Different Day podcast, Taryell Simmons takes us on his very special journey from misunderstood class clown to leader and teacher. He explains how a collaborative relationship with his mentor gave him a new outlook, and took him to becoming a visitor at the White House and much more. Taryell's willingness to accept people as they are has put him in a special position to speak to them directly and develop programs that serve them. Taryell comes to us with great humility, but his willingness to share gives us an opportunity to see just how far he's come, and appreciate just how much he's done. Before Christmas trees fill up all of our usual stores, we are gifted with a conversation with one of the best teachers around today. And, like Santa, Miguel delivered! A wise man once said that he feels smarter every time he sits down with Miguel. We believe that you will feel the same after this episode. In this episode, we discuss Miguel's early life including never being told "no" by his mother, and how that played a part in his growth & confidence. We discuss his corporate experience and the effect that had on his mentality in business today, including his approach to being an "intrepreneur" & an entrepreneur. This season of Same Business Different Day, we're not only interviewing some of our favorite entrepreneurs, but bringing back past guests to find out what they've been up to since our last conversation. In this episode, we sit down with Chris Ryan, an old friend of the show to hear about the changes in his life (business and personal ) since we last spoke. In both cases, the changes have been significant. Today, we are happy to welcome back our award winning cinematographer and director, Elias Acosta. One of our favorite storytellers rejoins the podcast to teach us about what has been going on in his field since we last spoke. One of the biggest lessons he wants us to understand is how much has changed since the pandemic, and how much will never be the same. He has a positive outlook, but reminds us to continue to put the good vibes into our work since there are plenty out there with the opposite mission. And the way he puts Artificial Intelligence into perspective is a talk you do not want to miss! How many people do you know that knew what they wanted to do in life since 6 years old, and are still in that same field today? Ke'Anna Dodds is an anomaly, but shares so much in this episode... not only highlighting the successes, but her regrets as well. What's so important is that she's found such great examples from her strong family support system. But she still accepts mentorship, and even shares amazing advice with those looking to follow in her footsteps. At the time we recorded this podcast, Ke'Anna was just launching her now popular Vista Twilight Market. She's doing this and so much more. Follow her to keep up with all of the latest. George shares with us about what he's been up to lately, and which "season" he's heading into next. As he welcomes his second child, he stays motivated to learn, teach, and make wise use of his time. In this episode of the Same Business Different Day podcast, we get to hear from Cheddy Matthews & Thomas Howard. As usual, our show follows the trek of some of the most influential business owners with whom we've had the pleasure to know and work. Somehow, we squeezed the many lives of these men into one episode, and it's a lesson per minute! One saw the vision early while the other remained malleable until he found his destiny. Both are now building on multiple careers and controlling their enterprises while helping others along the way. The bumps in the road could have changed it all. It only makes where they are today more inspiring. Enjoy & please share with others. What does it mean to be "Frontline Friendly"? There are lessons shared in this episode that you haven't heard in our previous episodes. Ari & Jason talk to us about how they were raised, how they met, and how that all led up to what they do today. Their expertise in their current field must not go unnoticed.
