Legendary American beat poet Ron Whitehead visits western Newfoundland - his first trip to Canada.
Two of the closest bonds a person can have are with a spouse and with a child. Ideally, in the first you're a loving partner, and in the second, a guide and a caregiver. Of course, real life doesn't always match the ideal, and both of those relationships can get twisted and strange. Sometimes your spouse and your child can even become the deadliest enemies. In the words of Lifetime Beat Poet Laureate, Ron Whitehead: "Blind Feline's new Kentucky Drifter album is a rare masterpiece of original music. I drove the winding backroads of Kentucky today with Blind Feline's new CD on repeat. The best damn outlaw country, kickass rock n' roll, down and out, running from the law, lonely and blue, dangerous love, romantic groove, barroom, music hall, nightclub, stadium, wild hard living drinking drugging loving shape shifting music I have heard in ages. The album grabbed hold and kept me in a state of ecstasy for the entire trip." --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tophillrecording/support

Have you ever met someone who has been struck by lightening? What about someone who has touched one of the rare crystal skulls, or who has talked to His Holiness the Dalai Lama? Have you ever met a kid who used his mind to correct his vision so much that he no longer needed his new glasses? In this episode, I interview all of those people, wrapped up into one magical human package. Ron Whitehead, the Rebel Poet, is nothing short of fantastic, and he has used his intuition as his guiding light since he was a small boy growing up in rural Kentucky. Ron has been redefining what it means to be free since he first realized that there was more to spirituality than his Southern Baptist roots. In this episode, Ron talks about the boxes that societal norms have placed him in, and his internal struggle between his desire to be the best at living in the box (the best coal miner, the best car salesman, the best husband), and his desire to live uncaged. Ron has dedicated his life to spiritual growth, which at times has not been easy. But, he always answers the call of spirit, whether it comes in the form of a whisper or a roar (like the time his car was struck by lightening leaving him temporarily blind). Following his intuition has brought him peace and deep healing through the trials and tribulations of life, and has ignited Ron's passion to spread peace and love in his most authentic, original way… by just being himself. This special episode wraps up with a message from the Dalai Lama. Believe me when I say that this message is meant just for you. Ron can be found all over YouTube or in any Google search of his name.

What was HST like as a first-time author? Margaret Harrell was Hunter S. Thompson's trusted copy editor for his first book, "Hells Angels," published by Random House in 1967. During that time, she was the assistant editor to Jim Silverman (at Random House)and worked on the books of several renown authors, including John Irving, Richard Farina, Chet Huntley(of The Huntley-Brinkley Report)and Supreme Court First Amendment lawyer Cy Rembar(who wrote "The End of Obscenity: The Trials of Lady Chatterley," "Tropic of Cancer" and "Fanny Hill" by the lawyer who defended them). A writer herself, she has memorialized her relationship with Hunter and a couple of other male writers in the first two of her four-volume memoir, entitled "Keep This Quiet." She is currently working in collaboration with Ron Whitehead on an upcoming illustrated book, entitled "Hunter Thompson's Hells Angels: Writers' & Editors, Romance & Trouble," which will reprint and contextualize the letters between Harrell and Thompson. This is TCN7, which includes Acts I & II of GonzoFest in three acts. In this episode, Kyle and I talk to the founders of GonzoFest, a music and literary festival in Louisville, celebrating the work of Hunter S. Thompson. GonzoFest lived as a bit of a half-way point on our horizon — It was Day fourteen for us, so we were well into the thick of acquiring “Travel patina.” We were also fiercely curious, as we really didn’t know what we were headed into. Emily joined us that morning, and held down the fort at a TCN booth, as we got a chance to talk with the Denny and Ron who started this festival seven years ago. We also got to talk with Hunter’s son, Juan - who’s featured in Act III which will be in TCN8. www.gonzofestlou.com http://www.tappingmyownphone.com/bio/
