When nine-year-old Melodee Buzzard vanished in early October, few could have predicted how fast her mother's behavior would spiral. Now, new court documents and witness statements reveal a terrifying encounter — one that prosecutors call false imprisonment by violence, menace, fraud, and deceit. According to the sworn statement of Tyler Brewer, a legal document assistant and mandated reporter, he went to meet Ashlee Buzzard on November 6, 2025, to discuss helping locate Melodee. What happened inside her Lompoc home instead sounded like something out of a psychological thriller. Brewer says Ashlee became “visibly distressed,” produced a box cutter, and locked him inside with multiple locks while refusing to let him leave. He eventually escaped and reported the incident. Now, Buzzard sits in the Santa Barbara County Jail on a felony charge — her bail set at $100,000 with a 1275 hold, meaning even if she posts it, she must prove the funds are clean. Authorities insist this charge is not directly connected to Melodee's disappearance, but it exposes what looks like a mental health emergency spiraling into criminal territory. In this episode of Hidden Killers with Tony Brueski, Tony dissects the full chain of events — from the wigs and swapped license plates to the psychological breakdown that ended in a locked door. How did a mother this unstable still retain custody? How did the system miss every red flag until someone else got trapped behind that door? And what does this tell us about how America handles mental health crises inside families — especially when a child's life is at stake? This is not just a case of one missing girl. It's a portrait of a system that keeps giving unstable parents second chances until it runs out of children to protect. Authorities in California are urgently searching for 7-year-old Melodee Buzzard, a young girl who vanished under deeply troubling and suspicious circumstances. Melodee was last seen in early October near Lompoc, California, and has not been seen publicly since October 11, when law enforcement confirmed surveillance footage of her traveling with her mother, Ashley Buzzard, near the Utah-Colorado border. Since that sighting, there has been no verifiable proof of life. According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, Ashley has provided “no verifiable explanation” for her daughter's whereabouts. Investigators say she's been evasive, uncooperative, and unwilling to answer direct questions — drawing alarming comparisons to the Casey Anthony case. Despite multiple search warrants on her home, storage unit, and vehicle, investigators remain without solid leads on where Melodee could be. What's most haunting is the growing pattern that echoes other infamous missing child cases like Harmony Montgomery and Oakley Carlson — cases where a child vanished, unnoticed for far too long, and the guardian's story simply didn't add up. In this case, reports indicate Ashley changed her license plates just before Melodee disappeared, traveled out of state, and may have manipulated her timeline to mislead authorities. Investigators have worked with the FBI, securing warrants for Ashley's electronics and financial records, hoping to uncover new evidence. Yet despite these efforts, Melodee remains missing, and her mother continues to dodge accountability. As the case gains traction on Court TV and NewsNation, the public's outrage grows — how long can this silence last before justice catches up? This is more than just another missing person's case. It's a chilling reminder of how easily a child can vanish, and how bureaucracy, silence, and deception can delay the truth. #MelodeeBuzzard #AshleyBuzzard #MissingChild #TrueCrime #BreakingNews #CaliforniaCrime #JusticeForMelodee #ChildEndangerment #InvestigativeNews #TrueCrimeCommunity Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? 9-year-old Melodee Buzzard was last seen in Colorado, near the Utah border, on October 9th, 2025. She has brown curly hair, brown eyes, is approximately 4'6” tall, and weighs between 60 and 100lbs.  Her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, was driving a rented 2024 white Chevy Malibu. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that she drove with at least two different license plates, a California plate issued by the rental car company, 9MNG101, as well as a New York license plate HCG9677. They believe it's possible that Ashlee used other plates as well.     Anyone with information is asked to call the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office at 805-681-4150. Nine-year-old Melodee Buzzard vanished after a mysterious three-day road trip with her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, in early October 2025. Surveillance footage shows Melodee wearing a dark wig and hoodie at a California car-rental counter on October 7. Ashlee rented a white Chevy Malibu (plate CA 9MNG101), drove more than 1,500 miles to Nebraska, and returned alone on October 10. Four days later, on October 14, the Lompoc Unified School District reported the child's prolonged absence. Deputies found Ashlee Buzzard at her home — but no Melodee. Officials say she has not provided a verifiable explanation and remains uncooperative. The FBI has joined the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, classifying Melodee as an “at-risk missing child.” In this episode of Hidden Killers with Tony Brueski, Tony examines the mounting evidence, the haunting disguise footage, and the public's growing frustration that no arrest has been made. How can a mother drive across state lines with her child, return alone, and face no charges? Why hasn't an AMBER Alert been issued? What does her silence tell investigators — and what does it hide? Join Tony for a raw, in-depth breakdown of a case that exposes the gaps in our missing-child system. Hear how the FBI is tracing license-plate readers, cell-site data, and rental-car GPS logs to piece together Melodee's final known route. This story isn't about custody disputes — it's about accountability, and a little girl who deserves to be found. Detectives and FBI agents have been searching for Melodee Buzzard, 9, for nearly two weeks. The girl's school district called the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office on October 14 to report Melodee's "extended absence." The sheriff has described Melodee's mother as being "uncooperative" in the investigation. The FBI has released new images of Melodee that appear to show her wearing a wig in surveillance video from October 7. From proactive threat assessment to long-term officer resilience and retirement planning, embedding behavioral health into daily practice is key to building a healthier, more effective agency. In this episode of the Policing Matters podcast, host Jim Dudley talks with Dr. Cherylynn Lee, a police psychologist with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, about weaving behavioral science into tactical operations, threat assessment and daily officer interactions. From co-responder units to retirement planning, Dr. Lee explains how agencies can proactively support both sworn and civilian staff. Read more from Dr. Lee on Police1 here. This week, we discuss the recent decision by President Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, which has been met with controversy and debate by the international community. As the Christmas season ensues, we begin with a discussion of holiday decor, before we dive into the news, which includes discussion about Corey Feldman's 1993 audio files shared with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, where he named the alleged sexual predators that accosted him. The files, now finally recovered, are purportedly in the hands of the Los Angeles Police Department... we also touch on a new report released about the Charlottesville protests earlier this year, and a tragic police shooting that went horribly wrong. The big story this week, however, has to do with "The New Jerusalem"... and President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, which has caused a storm of controversy within the international community.
