9-year-old Melodee Buzzard was last seen in Colorado, near the Utah border, on October 9th, 2025. She has brown curly hair, brown eyes, is approximately 4'6” tall, and weighs between 60 and 100lbs.  Her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, was driving a rented 2024 white Chevy Malibu. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that she drove with at least two different license plates, a California plate issued by the rental car company, 9MNG101, as well as a New York license plate HCG9677. It's been exactly one week since two violent crimes against female-identifying students took place in and around UCSB. These alleged kidnapping attempts left students and police units on high alert, since the suspect couldn't be tracked down for days. But finally, this past Saturday, 30-year-old Michael Angelo Auclair was found and arrested. KCSB's Jackie Sedley, Cecilia Aden, and Molly Wright are here with the story. Deputy Bill Coffman from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department joins us and shares his experiences from jumping into Normandy France on June 5th 2019 to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion by the Allied Forces during WWII.

Dr. Cherylynn Lee is the Manager of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, Behavioral Sciences Unit (BSU). The BSU was created in 2016 to assist law enforcement when they encounter mentally ill community members and to improve communication and operations with behavioral health entities. Dr. Lee was hired by the Sheriff’s Office in 2017 to develop and grow the unit. She holds a PhD. and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, San Diego. Prior to working for the Sheriff’s Office, Dr. Lee worked for Aegis Treatment Centers, an outpatient addiction treatment center where she managed over 350 patients and 30 medical and mental health staff. Dr. Lee also worked UC San Diego Metabolic and Bariatric Institute, UC San Diego Department of Psychiatry and Preventative Medicine and their Mindful Eating Conscious Living course and the Department of Psychiatry at San Mateo Medical Center. Dr. Lee is a founding member of the South Santa Barbara County Opioid Safety Coalition, Chair of the North County Opioid Coalition and co-chair of the Stepping Up Initiative.
