The president, meanwhile, is busy “not joking” about staying in office for an unconstitutional third term. In honor of April Fool's Day, our radio detectives this week have to contend with some practical jokes and jokers that are anything but funny. Dr. Watson is enlisted to pull a prank on Sherlock Holmes in "The April Fool's Day Adventure," starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce (originally aired on Mutual on April 1, 1946). Dan Holiday tries to find a deranged jokester before his antics turn deadly in "Death is No Joke" from Box 13. A fake will reading turns into a real crime scene as Philip Marlowe hunts for a killer in "The Last Laugh" (originally aired on CBS on April 2, 1949), and Detective Danny Clover has to find out who killed a celebrated prankster in "Laugh-a-Minute Tyler" from Broadway is My Beat (originally aired on March 14, 1953).
Starmer's Labour are making April Fools of us all BUT it's no joke! #Taiwo Owatemi #National Insurance #CouncilTax #costofliving In this hard-hitting video, Jon Gaunt exposes how Starmer's Labour Party is making April Fools of the UK public with their broken promises and misleading claims. Despite Rachel Reeves boasting that we will all be £500 better off soon, the reality is far worse. According to the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR), Starmer's policies will result in devastating cost increases for households across the country. The National Insurance (NI) hike alone will wipe out at least £565 from family budgets. Additionally, Gaunty explores the reality of rising costs, from council tax increases (£90 on average) to soaring water bills (£123), and the impact of higher energy bills (£111), broadband fees (£21.99), and road tax (£5). To top it off, TV licenses are going up by a fiver, all while Starmer and his Chancellor boast about the £500 households will allegedly feel "better off." Meanwhile a SENIOR Labour MP is using taxpayers' cash to pay “pet rent” so she can live with her cockapoo dog in London. Taiwo Owatemi is helping to get £5 billion of cuts to disability benefits through parliament for Labour at the same time as a bombshell document reveals that the Coventry North West MP is charging taxpayers £900 a year extra in rent so her pet pooch Bella can live with her. She is Jon Gaunt's Local MP and Gaunty believes that she is a self-serving pig with her snout in the trough! Meanwhile, Starmer is parading around the world as if he's a global statesman while failing to address the real issues at home. This video highlights the stark contrast between the Labour leader's rhetoric and the harsh reality faced by hard-working families. From higher taxes to his obsession with banning ninja knives, Starmer's priorities are out of touch with the struggles of ordinary people. As we prepare for even more tax hikes, it's clear that Starmer and his Chancellor are only fooling themselves—and us. Stay tuned for more UK political analysis, debate, and free speech discussions on the issues that matter most. Hip Hop Hooray, Slackers!Today, we're diving into ‘80s rap—a new genre that was exploding right before our eyes. We'll cover the top-selling albums and the pioneers who started it all. Rap kicked off in the early ‘80s in New York City. LL Cool J's debut record Radio sold over a million units with “I Can't Live Without My Radio” as the lead single. Then Run-D.M.C.'s Raising Hell broke huge, selling three million copies, led by the first rock/rap hybrid track - their reimagining of Aerosmith's “Walk This Way.” The Beastie Boys' Licensed to Ill hit ten million thanks to the massive anthem that was “Fight for Your Right (To Party).” Rick Rubin produced all three of these breathrough records.Eric B. & Rakim's Paid in Full sold a million records—“I Ain't No Joke” set a new bar. Seriously, it wasn't until I started revisiting this stuff that I recalled how ahead of his time Rakim really was.Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millions moved a million units with songs like “Don't Believe the Hype” and “Bring the Noise,” merging hip hop with social commentary. N.W.A's Straight Outta Compton sold three million records with no radio support since almost all of it was censored. Only “Express Yourself” was clean enough to get airplay! Dr. Dre was already a genius in the studio - that album sounds amazing. On the pop side of rap was Salt-N-Pepa's “Push It,” DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince with “Parents Just Don't Understand,” while the big dog was none other than MC Hammer's massively popular Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em, which sold ten million—“U Can't Touch This” was a party staple. For Gen X, rap was fresh and ours. These pioneers turned a street sound into a movement, selling millions on vinyl and cassettes.

Being “basic” has long been a theme of Trey Kennedy's popular standup routine and sketch comedy. He recently introduced the perfect pairing for his humor, Basic Cellars. An Instagram sensation with over three million followers, Trey debuted Basic Cellars in October. Created in partnership with premium wine producer In Good Taste, the brand is designed to appeal to modern consumers who love wine, but are often put off by complicated and confusing verbiage. Basic Cellars sells two wines, a California Pinot Noir and an Italian white, that come in single-serve 187 mL glass bottles. Marketed as “wine for people who don't take themselves too seriously,” Basic Cellars is sold online in eight-packs for $60. The brand is gradually making its way into brick-and-mortar stores, according to Trey, who recently joined us for an interview. As part of our conversation, Trey talks about how Basic Cellars melds his passion for comedy and wine, how the brand presents itself as a both an accessible and premium option, how its core audience aligns with that of his own and how he attempts to authentically incorporate the brand into his social media content. Show notes: 0:25: Trey Kennedy, Founder, Basic Cellars – Trey chats with Taste Radio editor Ray Latif about how he embraced wine after he “graduated” from beer and why the beverage is popular with his fanbase. He also talks about the reason for Basic Cellars' bottle size, whether featuring the brand in his social posts has generated significant sales and how he attempts to create content that doesn't feel like an ad. Trey also discusses his process for promoting other companies, whether Basic Cellars will begin to sell merchandise, the potential to extend the brand into other beverage categories and how he incorporates consumer feedback into business planning. He also talks about the company's retail strategy and potential collaborations and shares his take on the most effective social media platforms. Brands in this episode: Basic Cellars, Loverboy

NOTE: At the time of this recording and the information shared in this interview was valid, true and available. Since this recording, we have not been able to reach LeeAnn Miley by phone, email or direct messages to confirm the Omaha Beauty Show or the status of The Sovereign Stylist nonprofit status. The Sovereign Stylist team (TSS) has also not heard from or seen LeeAnn Miley since. We wish the TSS team all the best in this confusing and stressful transition time. Alonzo Bodden is one of the hardest-working and funniest working standup comics on the touring circuit today. He won Season 3 of NBC's Last Comic Standing; he has four standup specials so far; he's a regular panelist on NPR's Wait, Wait… Don't Tell Me!; he's played a bouncer or a security guard in countless movies and TV shows; and he even voiced monsters on the Power Rangers. He's been around. But before he had anything to do with show business, Alonzo was an aircraft mechanic who got a job working for Lockheed Martin on the F-117 Nighthawk stealth bomber – one of the most advanced top secret aircraft in the world – when he graduated from Aviation High School in New York. At 18, he moved to Los Angeles, started making a lot of money, found himself in the throes of addiction, and wound up in jail. The sound of the cell door slamming shut was his turning point. In this episode, Alonzo shares details about his New York upbringing, his battle with addiction, his path to sobriety (36 years ago!), and how it all led him to find his calling: comedy. He also shares the one hilarious joke he told at the 1997 Montreal Just for Laughs festival that immediately transformed him from a guy who did standup comedy to fully realized comic. You won't want to miss it. Wherever you live, Alonzo will be in a town near you sooner or later and seeing him live should be high on your priority list. Find him at www.alonzobodden.com. Many of Donald J. Trump's cabinet picks have something in common: a very close relationship with Fox News. On this week's On the Media, hear about the revolving door from the conservative network to the White House. Plus, election conspiracy theories from Kamala Harris supporters go viral. And a satirical news site buys up Alex Jones' Infowars. [01:00] Host Brooke Gladstone speaks with Matt Gertz, senior fellow at Media Matters, about the re-opened revolving door between conservative media and the Trump administration. [11:52] Host Micah Loewinger sits down with Anna Merlan, senior reporter at Mother Jones, to discuss the flurry of apparent Democratic voters questioning election results on social media, and why, without backing from public officials, “BlueAnon” is likely a nonstarter.[20:05] Host Brooke Gladstone chats with Bill Adair, founder of PolitiFact and author of the new book Beyond the Big Lie, about the history of fact-checking and why the field – in desperate need of resources and reinforcements – is struggling to break through in our information ecosystem. [33:23] Host Micah Loewinger talks with Matt Pearce, former staff writer at the LA Times, and president of Media Guild of the West, about the media's audience problem.[43:00] Host Brooke Gladstone calls up Ben Collins, CEO of The Onion, because The Onion bought Alex Jones' Infowars.
